Who do people think should be new permanent england captain?

  • We're probably talking post-Euros, but I would give it to Phil Jones. He's going to be a long term fixture in the England team, probably at centre back, and he's just the sort of player who would make the most of it.
  • Does it really matter?

If you play better just because you are the captain, then you have been cheating yourself, the team and the fans in all the previous games so shouldnt be near the team anyway.

I think it does matter the skipper is the mouthpiece of the manager during the game and can either lead by example like Boobby's Moore or Charlton or through vociferous encouragement as well like a Dave Mackay or Billy Bremner.
  • Joe hart all day, Immense, our only real hope of winning the tournament, without Hume it wouldn't even be worth going.
  • No need for a permanent captain. All it does is guarantee someone a place in the side.

Pick the best man for the job on a game by game basis.
  • If you played the game you would understand Sash, never a good idea unless everyone else on the pitch is hopeless.
Works perfect well for Spain, and you couldn't describe the outfield players as hopeless.

It's a very English thing that the goalkeeper can't be the captain.
An Idiot could captain that side as they are that good, my point being it should generally be a centre half/centre midfielder someone in the thick of the action, not keen on Forwards doing it either to be honest.
  • I think its gonna be Rooney in the end
  • Parker, enough said.
  • If Rooney grows up a bit in the next couple of years I can see him getting it.

more chance of getting a w*nk off the pope.

It'll probably end up with the granny shagger, but not because he's found some maturity but because whoever is manager or head coach or whatever job title he is given will want to keep a big club happy and besides that it's Man U's turn to have the captaincy. But when he does get the job expect a lot of sycophantic articles about how mature Rooney is, what a great example to kids across the nation he is and the ideal candidate.

When was the last time England were captained by a player who didn't play at one of the big clubs?
