We would more than hold our own currently, but with the investment that I feel will come with promotion , who knows , I said in another thread I want to see silva, poyet and azezz so I want a season of maintaining championship status
Hamer, Morrison, Hollands and Kermorgant give a decent spine to the side. Solly and Wiggins can almost certainly play at the next level and, as part of an impressive back 4, Taylor deserves the opportunity to see if he can.
Jackson, fitness permitting, is capable of doing a job in the Championship as is BWP when confident and firing.
There may be others but I'd say it is a bit more problematic as to their abilities or perhaps consistency might be a better description.
some matchdays it will rain, other matchdays will be dry and sunny
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else's.
so who is nervous on how things might pan out if perchance we make it to the championship?
Raz I know you were against CP's appointment because of his "lack of experience". I hope you're not going to turn on him too quickly if we struggle at first when we make the step up??
It's not going to be easy by any means. However teams like Southampton, Norwich & Brighton show it can be done - and with some real dross likely to drop out of the Premier League (Wigan, Wolves, Bolton/Blackburn), next season is looking as good as any for that transition.
It's all about managing expectations I think, I would be happy with a season of mid-table consolidation - long term vision is where it is at.
A lot will depend on how much money is avaiable for transfer fees and salaries. Powell must NOT be too sentimental about the players who have done so well this season. If it proves too much for certain players at a higher level, then they must be replaced quickly. Lambert @ Norwich took a very good squad into the championship and replaced many of them almost immediately and did the same again following last season's promotion to the top table. Chris Powell, funds allowing, must do the same if necessary.
I don't think we'll follow the Norwich or Brighton route and we will need to make some changes. Its hard ot say - look at the contrast between last season and this. Who can predict what next season will bring?

I think we will be top ten, assuming we stroll this league you look at teams like Crawley/Stevenage/Southampton/Norwich and Brighton, the momentum takes them into the next season very well indeed

Reality check ,how many seasons did it take Curbs to get us out of the Championship?
Rightly or wrongly the manager tends to get all the credit or blame when things go right or wrong. Anyway my post wasn't meant to be that serious. If i was being serious i'd say we need ro buy three decent players to mount a serious promotion push and just not sure where the cash is coming from since our squad this year apparently came from a one off player sale.
Raz , i'm not nervous about the Championship , i'm just trying to savour and enjoy this season , its been a long time coming! i know if this was happening to me 20 years ago i would have thought we would storm the Championship! now i'm older , not neccesarily wiser , i look at the teams in the Champ , and think blooming heck we'll do well to take it by storm , first step for me is survival next season , anything else is a bonus and to be enjoyed.
i think this being the poorest 3rd division of our 3 seasons down here and with our incredible run of results that this may result in some over inflated bullish opinions of what we can do next year and a few will be in for a rude awakening once the promotion horn goes a bit floppy if we went up and our first choice side remained fit and played every game we'd be mid to upper table obviously that can't happen , we will have to strengthen cos i don't think the strength in depth is good enough if we were to have injuries imo i think the centre halves will struggle against more mobile and fluid attackers and our centre mids haven't been 'at it' for a while now kermy and bwp will get goals if the opportunities are provided who knows what the transfer market will bring but as it stands now i am 3% promotion 35% top half (without promotion) 59% bottom half (without relegation) 3% relelgation

I get the feeling there's a very small minority of fans with a serious amount of egg on their faces*. Their sagacity over the folly of Powell's appointment, and subsequent predictions of doom and gloom at the back end of last season have been made to look very, very silly. Some of them no doubt would love to say i told you so, when and if Powell eventually comes unstuck....
* i dont include Razil in this buch, he's a good chap if a little daft at times
What would be a total disaster is to make too many changes for next season- possibly bring in two or two three new faces and let go of a few outside of the current first team. Then we will be ready.
You're far too generous graeme.............but anyway this thread is about the championship not raking over old ground.
its a strangely worded question though implying the expectation &/or anticipation of failure by linking gloom merchantism and nervousness about next season....

not saying it can't be done , but it ain't easy!
if we went up and our first choice side remained fit and played every game we'd be mid to upper table
obviously that can't happen , we will have to strengthen cos i don't think the strength in depth is good enough if we were to have injuries
imo i think the centre halves will struggle against more mobile and fluid attackers and our centre mids haven't been 'at it' for a while now kermy and bwp will get goals if the opportunities are provided

Id agree... if zero player changes..

start a Powell 'was it the right decision thread' and I'll pop over and join you.
:P
P.S. I am a bit nervous for next year (assuming it happens..) it will be a test to see how our squad and manager cope, and of our new owners ambition.
