  • Fantastic day with the perfect result ... the Valley was rocking ... well three sides were anyway ;-)

    Pubs were absolutely rammed
  • One of my favorite ever games and I was only 9ish

  • Ahhh feel so sorry for Johnson and Dowie ... NOT

Jon Fortune's response to handling the ball and giving away a penalty ... he scores! Superb ... and then Deano's great save.
  • I really wish i could remember this better, all i can remember is the amarillo song like constantly...changing from 'we're sending' to we sent'
  • That summer I went on a tour of The Valley as part of the Centenary celebrations. At some point, the guy showing us around mentioned, "the day we beat Palace". Someone else picked up on it, saying that it was a draw not a win. "I know", said the guy winking "but it felt like a win"!

And that was what they day was like; it really did feel like a huge huge win. I never wanted them to take a 2-1 lead, but somehow it was so much better that we should come from behind to crush their stupid stripy dreams.
  • LOVE THAT. Brings it all back. Whatever was Leieieiaaeiaieieiaighitwood thinking with that foul?
  • Palarse are like that strange kid that walks around the nighborhood, and there's always one saying "awww pity him, give him a chance, be his friend" and you do...6 months later your mug ends up appearing on crimewatch! very strange place and fans too, I was forced into going with my (ex) friends when i was 10yrs old, horrible place, no soul...
  • Absolutely you should enjoy sending hated rivals down.

Some of us who've been following Charlton for decades remember how we were treated as non-entities by Ron Noades and his toads during our time of exile at Sh!thurst.

So why shouldn't we revel in their misfortune?
The smarmy Nigels certainly revelled in ours.

So all is fair in love and war.

However, having said that ....... I was rooting for Palace to stay in business, when they looked like they would go to the wall (no pun, of course). It,s one thing to enjoy their discomfort, but you wouldn't wish your rivals a total demise, would you?

  • With you SoundAs.

I think that Powell should make the squad sit through the whole of that video in the build-up to our next match against the Nigels to show them what it means to us.
  • I was only 11ish at the time, so I can't really remember details too much, so to anyone there, what was the atmosphere etc like? Or the fans after? Because you'd think it would be pretty crazy but people don't really go on about it too much...
Rommedahl in the last minute six months earlier was fantastic, BUT to send them down was the best feeling I have had after St.Andrews in '87 and Wembley '98. I despise them buggers as much as I love Charlton

Not been to another Palice game since and have no intention to either. It does not get better than relegating them 'people'. My ringtone is amarilo!!!!
  • I really fail to see how anyone would not enjoy sending down a local rival? Football, sport and life in general is a series of ups and downs. You have to enjoy the ups and make the most of them because for the majority of us the downs tend to outweigh the ups.
It was brilliant and I still like to hear the song, heard it at Chesterfield as the hardcore were doing a kind of Starsound CharltonON45 circa 1981.
As a Palacce mate of mine tried to say "It wasn't you that sent us down, it was because of many poor results throughout the season....." NO!!! I said, it WAS us, if we hadn't have equalized, you'd have stayed up - FACT. We celebrated big time, from the terraces to the Boardroom!
"Be careful what you wish for..." What a load of crap that statement is! I WANT EVERYTHING I WISH FOR THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Enjoy the good times, it's the memories of these that get you through the bad times.
When we played West Brom away December 07, there was an acknowledgement to Jon Fortune in their programme for the goal, WBA stayed up as a result
  • Well said. So what if it bites you back.
When the feathered ones beat us in the play-offs in 96 how gutted was I, however, three weeks later and Claridge shinned in the winner for Leicester with the last kick of the game, wooppeeee
  • why an alien?
All they had in Nuxley Toys

thoroughly enjoyable day , i could see some palace mates in their end and seeing them giving it when they were winning was getting on my tits and then when it was over it was well worth it to see the gutted look of all the palace mugs

i mean thats what it's all about taking the pee out of fellow supporters and it's better if you know em i don't know any brentford fans or anyone in this chuff division to take the piss out of and lord it over
and as reeeeem as this season has been it's the 3rd division and no one i know (one o's fan excepted) cares
  • You lot are so mean , that was a horrible , rotten day.......

For Palace fans that is!! :-0
