Tranmere v Charlton

edited February 2012 in General Charlton
I continue to ply my trade with lots of pride in the Science industry and I currently work and live in The Wirral which many consider, including me, the posh part of Liverpool. This is a predominantly LFC area and I do have to contend with seeing people in shops in their pyjamas and once I nearly got lynched when I entered my local with a copy of The Sun. Needless to say I got educated on the issue by the "Standard Chartered" clad punters as I never knew what the problem was in the first place. Irritatingly, Messrs Kenny and Suarez are worshipped around here but less said the better

Tranmere Rovers is about 5 minutes from where I live and I can keep you posted on things going on up here in terms of weather.

It is cold up here but it is even colder down in Kent. How do I know? As soon as the game got called off (at the time, I was shopping in Birkenhead which is where Prenton Park is based) I got in the car and drove down to Kent. Am spending the night in Sittingbourne and visited a few friends which has been great.

I will return to the North West this evening.

  • According to the BBC long range forecast on Coutryfile there will be no problem with the weather.
  • Great news as the last 2 seasons Tranmere has been the game i have missed with work or some other reason and since im confident this will be my last chance with us going up, id be dissapointed to miss out again.
  • Does anyone remeber us playing them at home years ago and them having part of the west stand ?... or did I dream that
  • Away fans were always in the south part of the West Stand. I vividly remember as a kid, a Derby fan falling down about 30 stairs there once.
  • im sure they had the upper tier and were chucking coins at us, I would have only been young though
  • Nah, before the West was redeveloped from my memory.

Rings a bell after we had moved back to the Valley and East Terrace was closed first block of seats in the temporary West Stand nearest the Jimmy Seed Stand was allocated to visiting supporters?
  • So far so good up in the Wirral Peninsula at the moment. Saturday games are back on.

    Pretty mild up here.

So - nearly 400 tickets sold? Sorry but that is utter pish especially when we all cuss those tho swallow away allocations for games closer to home. I suggest if one of you have a car and got 3-4 friends who also follow Charlton, why not travel together and share the costs if you can. Birkenhead door to door from SE7 is about 4 hours and 250 miles. Get pissed and gorge on pies and burgers when you return home. Easy.

Ahhh life's so easy when you have 'yoot' on your side!!!!

  • The advance sales are very low but that's not surprising in view of the recent weather ( with the risk of wasted train fares ), the raft of forthcoming games and the scheduled game at Chesterfield last Saturday ( a new ground for all ). How many supporters can afford and/or get pass outs for two trips up North on consecutive Saturdays ?

Hopefully, there'll be a decent walk up on the day and we'll have 600 odd. I'm going to make a day and a night of it up there as my oldest son is at university in Liverpool. Most of the lads in his house are football fans of different denominations and will be coming along. They will be Charlton supporters for the day, save ( obviously ) for the poor chap who supports Wednesday.

We didn't have too much time pre-match last season, so ended up in the two pubs by the ground, the Prenton Hotel and the Mersey Clipper. Neither of them were much cop, so I thought we'd try the Sportsmans Arms this time. I am on the 9.07 from Euston, so there will also be time for a cleansing ale in Liverpool first before taking the tube to Rock Ferry.

Looking forward to a night in Liverpool. There are lots of excellent ( and very cheap ) pubs, such as the The Philharmonic (replete with the UK's only Grade 1 listed gents toilet ), Pogue Mahones and Baltic Fleet and we'll also fit in dinner at The Side Door, an excellent restaurant in Hope Street. All very acceptable - all that's needed now is the 3 points.
  • Im at John Moore's up here so the old man is meeting me up here tomorrow!Cant wait!
  • I'm going tomorrow with a good mate who is a Tranmere fan - he has been to see us before, but tomorrow he won't be cheering us on, for once.

Probably have a pint in the Mersey Clipper beforehand (I think that's the one right to the north stand opposite where we get in). I'd imagine there will be quite a few bonus walk ups like myself, but after the transport debacle of recent weeks, I'm not surprised many have decided not to make the trip (although the weather in the north west is now pretty mild).

Hoping to see BWP get back in the groove; we should have too much for them overall, I think, but it won't be easy (when is it ever?). COYR!
  • I'm going tomorrow purely because I havn't been before. I think for a lot of people it is one of those one time only places.

Good man. LJMU is a good place in a nice city. I live in Moreton. I can see the city from where I'm sitting. Have a good day and to the rest of you.

I agree - Liverpool is a decent night out and you know all the decent places.
  • I have to admit that I can't be arsed with this one, having got half way to Sheff W & then Chesterfield aborted as well.
I'm giving myself a well deseved break. 1st game I won't be going to since Boxing Day.

PS Weather forecast is rain & possible snow :-(
  • No way will this match be called off.

This as well. First league game I've missed since Hartlepool in October.

Ahem. I am sat here in the living room. I can see Liverpool outside the window. It is quite mild with a little bit of rain. My god people have become paranoid.
  • Ready to set off on my bike at 7.30 tomorrow morning.

Hope it stops pishing it down. Gonna be a long day.

Forecast tomorrow is quite a bit of rain, but hopefully if the forecast is correct, it stops between 15.00 & 17.00. Snow looks like it's staying a bit further North.
  • Phew ! Only 5 layers needed then.
