Reception for Curbishley and Co on Saturday

edited February 2007 in General Charlton
Curbishley and Keithy P should get the round of applause he thoroughly deserves when they emerge from the tunnel on Saturday. Yes its a big game, but no one can doubt what they have done for our club over the years, and any other viewpoint is small-minded and would make us look particularly short-term.

Once that is out the way, its on with the game, and they are just any other management team.

However, anyone who thinks the best way to approach Saturday is to boo or chant against these Charlton legends, are not true Charlton fans in my book.

Discuss.

  • Yes i'm with you agree they are legends but will find it very hard to clap them before such a big game, probably just concentrate on getting behind our lads.
  • wouldn't boo or diss them and if people want to applaud them as they go along the touchline then fine. I'm undecided as to whether I'll join in only because the game is too important to distract anyone from it including us the fans. All I hope is that the tannoy announcer doesn't give it the big 'un and urge us to salute Curbs as some sort of modern day Ceaser.
  • I doubt i will cheer but might give a polite round of applause if im in my seat..

if you're not in seat by by the time the players are on the pitch are you a true charlton fan?

    discuss
  • give them the reception they rightly deserve to warm up the clapping action then crank up the noise level for pardew and the players...
  • On the other side, its pretty much a mirror image.
Pardew will get a good reception prior to kick off, but i'm fairly sure he'll get a bit of east end stick about the whole hush hush allegations, especially according to KUMB.

Should be a cracking atmosphere for 90 minutes.
  • The point about the announcer not making a big issue out of it is absolute spot on. There will be plenty of other occassions when we can pay tribute to Curbs etc, before this game is not one of them.

No presentation, no guard of honour, no highlighting over the tannoy. If he wants to walk out and wave and people applaud, so be it. But lets not force the issue.

BDL - grab pipsqueak by the collars and tell him what's expected of him !
  • There won't be any presentation.

I've written something similar for the KT this week. Polite clap is fine for Curbs and Mervyn (Peacock is in a different catagory IMHO) then get behind Pardew, especially if WHU give him stick. Let's remind them of what they have lost ;-)

The King is dead, long live the King.
  • As I understand it no presentation & NO announcement from the Stadium announcer, if you wanna clap then fine, but club will be doing nothing, too bloody right in my opinion. I'll be clapping Pardew & Curbs when the come out, but I will be chanting Pards name no one else's.

    why is peacock different?
  • Nothing from me, only support for Pards and the team

  • They'll get nothing from me on this ocassion.
  • It's a tricky one. I was discussing the very same thing with a mate of mine yesterday (in a pub - spookily enough).
I think I would want to clap Curbs by way of recognition of the service he gave us, but it would be so much easier to do that if we were sitting comfortably in mid-table, as we could afford to be charitable.

However, Saturday is a different kettle of fish altogether.

I'm thinking of taking the cowards way out and getting to my seat just after kick off. (This option also has the added bonus of allowing more time in the pub beforehand!)
  • What we think of Man U fans if the first time Fergie returned to OT with another club, he was booed ?

actually using Manure fans is not a good example ! but you get my drift !!
  • I only "Boo" at pantomimes.
As far as I'm concerned my only interst on Saturday is in CAFC 2007.
  • I will boo curbs! if only it was different occasion, this deserves full booing and anti curbs songs.

If it was anything other than v westham in a situation like this, i would give a light roun d of applause!

I went Manure, his last game and clapped him then. He'll get nowt from me ever (ok maybe if he comes back in years)

Harsh i know, but i dont care anymore.
  • BREAKING NEWS >>>>>........................... MCS IN "NO MORE MR NICE GUY" SHOCK....................!!!

    why is peacock different?

cos he was a one club man, is our record appearance holder for an outfield player, is a great bloke and will be back sooner or later in some role.

Got nothing against Mervyn either who I think was scapegoat for mnay things or even Curbs for that matter.
  • I don't think booing is the right way to go about it. when we go to watford will we boo boothroyd? why should you boo curbs?

how can you clap 1 and not the other 3? I find that bizarre.
they all helped us be a successful club. no one really knows what peacock and day individually did to help the club, as the buck stopped with curbs.
i'll clap them them for a short while on saturday i think (if i'm in my seat by then) but will save most of my energy for alan p and the team in red.

I've with you MCS , fck curbs & Day , this is all about CAFC and the future now and this game is going to go some way to shape that .

Curbs done his bit , very grateful but its in the past now , time to move on and get behind the lads bigtime

  • I'm just going to try to blot out the fact that it is the man who, with some great support, built our club to what it is today and treat him like any other opposing manager.

    Couldn't boo him.

Saturday is bigger than this- we need to back the team and really get on the Wham players backs. Getting at Curbs will acheive nothing.

    sorry MCS :-)
  • He (Curbs) can have as much support from me as he wishes, as long as it's in the 90th minute and we are 3 nil up.
  • yeh actually, thats a good idea!! clap him if we are winnin, boo him if we are losing.

    I like it!
  • I don't believe in booing. I'll be clapping Curbs/Merv/Keith onto the pitch and cheering Pards/Parkie/Robbo

I can separate Curbs the Charlton legend from Curbs the manager of our main rivals. Once the players line up for kick off I'll give him/West Ham hell and big up Pards and the boys. I'm quite happy with that.
  • I shouldn't be, but I am with MCS on this. It is a bitterish divorce and the bastard never loved us anyway.

I know it ain't the Charlton way but I ain't doormatting for anything West Ham on Saturday - no aggro, but I know what corner I stand in.

    Is it the "naughty corner"?
    ;o)
  • He can get a round of applause when we comes back with another club after he takes West Ham down.
  • just an insight into what Curbs said recently:

"There has not been a day when I have not been working. When I was at Charlton I didn't take any work home but now I do."
