Green v Waggy

  • The point is, we have something in our favour that sir Chris doesn't - that is th ebenefit of hindsight!
  • Why does everyone pick on Green. He is a match Winner, yeovil, Exeter, two assists against Huddersfield etc. he put more quality balls in than Jackson last night but Jackson escapes critisism. green put in a quality ball early in the second half but no one attacked it. He wasn't great last night but is a valuable member of the team and give him a few games with Stevens with Stevens putting nice balls out wide to him to whip in and people will see what a quality player he is. Waggy deserves his little stint out of the picture where he will hopefully learn not to full over and run to the ref with his arms in the air.
  • I want to see Waggy start because I reckon he will take his chance. However, there was a few "OFF OFF OFF" chants at Green yesterday. How's that going to help him?

The bloke about 8 rows in front of me shouted "send him back to Dagenham." But that's the same bloke who would boo Francis for walking on the pitch. It's ridiculous.
  • There really are some idiots around. This team is 10 points clear, a dip in goals yes but still top of the current form league and these dim twats are abusing young players and knocking their confidence.
  • Play Waggy sat and give Green a rest. If not this week then next Sat with MKD on Tues. We have a big squad so may as well use it. When better than when a player has a 'mare'? Keeps all on there toes and the team sharp. BWP missed out last night and should benefit from the rest. I expect him to be back with a bang on Sat.
  • Think there could be a case for Haynes starting wide right on Saturday with Green on the bench.
No place for Wagstaff in what should be an attack minded line up against the mighty 'Dale'.
Lmao no place for Waggy in an attack minded line up?
  • It's a team game and for most games the team's been playing brilliantly, on occasions certain players are under par, but as a team they work their socks off to cover for each other.

Powell knows his best team (which includes Green over Wagstaff and Hamer over Sullivan), he watches them everday in training and he has driven them to be the best team in League 1 (10 points clear of second), therefore, please leave all team decisions to him!!

Let's just enjoy where we are - it's been a while...!
Fine - shall we end all debates on any matters where someone else actually makes the decision?
  • I think Green is the better player, but I think having Wagstaff on the bench is a good move as Greenie definitely needs a kick up the backside at the moment. I think the size of our squad and the options we currently have has really been hit hard by the 5 sub rule instead of 7.
  • Yes, I think it is quite restrictive and I know the arguments that teams only used to have one sub etc... but personally I think 7 subs is fine. It shouldn't be compulsary for clubs to have seven but it does also give the option to give younger players a go which is a good thing. Also, I don't see the need to restrict the number of subs that can be made? Overall this would help development of players if you are not too stuck on tradition which football well and truly is.
  • Rugby addick, I heard that too (or someone else) this guy hated Benson last year and Sam the year before regardless of performance in matches. Last night was a freak game where nothing appeared to click, we had plenty of the ball but not the rub of the green! Same again saturday (bwp for clarke) and stephens further up the pitch and we will win

  • I think there is a place for him on the bench. (maybe get rid of clarke)
Green has been really good but his form has droped like so many others in the side recently. i still think he is a better player than wagstaff. I wouldent replace green for him just yet. Green unfortunatly isent the quickest and he does tire out so to have waggy come on would be a great option. Either that or have pritchard go on the wing, or even haynes if Green isent doing it.
  • I'm not against debate, I'm just bored reading some of the crap on here - like let's give Sullivan a chance when Hamer's only conceded one goal this calendar year!

Its not like last season when only a handful of players were putting in any real effort in - we're ten points clear of 2nd place ffs!
  • Green has been poor fora while, but is it just a choice of Green or Wagstaff. Whilst not his favoured position Haynes can play on the right and Bradley Pritchard has played there when Green has gone off.
  • neither at the moment .. give Pritchard a go on the right with Stephens and Hollands in the centre, Jackson on the left.
  • waggy cant cross to save his life and just runs at the corner flag all the time. however green's delivery is class and therefore will create more goals and therefore i would have green in my team ahead of waggy every day of the week
  • Im a Green fan but can see why he isn't everyones cup of tea, Wagstaff is quick and can score but cant cross.....does anyone else sit there watching them and wishes that if only Mr Wagstaff met the future Mrs Green 24 years ago, what a great player we would have??

    My thoughts entirely

  • One's a footballer, one's a long distant runner, simples!
  • If we'd have taken our chances we'd have been out of sight before they scored. After that it was minimum 10 behind the ball, spoil play, waste time, etc. Green is in the side because he has flair and creates chances. Waggy offers something different, but I think we're generally a better side with Green in it.

I would like to see Green do the early cross thing slightly less often than every time though.
  • I love Green & Waggy as they both offer something different , it does wind me up how many times Greeny tries to score from a corner , he does over use it a bit.

For a long distance runner Wagstaff has scored some great strikes
  • green is a footballer wagstaff is an athlete ...

we are a football club i did notice last night that green was visibly affected by the boo boys (why the hell do they do it? ) if we want our club to succeeed we ve got to have less of the negative from the support

so for me green is my choice every time but for gods sake lets get behind the boys rather than moan
The boo boys! Makes my blood boil !!

    What boos!?
  • some games wagstaff would be a better choice but do prefer green
  • IMO Green is overall a more useful player, think he links up well with Solly and has a cracking shot which he is never afraid to unleash. His set pieces are also a good advantage. Although would be dissapointed if Waggy wasn't part of our future plans because he has great potential and is fantastic to use as an impact sub with around 20 minutes left when they're defence is tiring.

Well said scp but Green thinks he's an automatic start in the side now and hasn't been playing well for quite a few games, waggy always gives his best even if does pull out of a few 50/50s, I think it's time waggy had another bite of the cherry

I've seen Green pull out of 50/50s sometimes. I think many wingers have a tendency to.

Green and Waggy both have their strengths and weaknesses and I agree with you that perhaps we could freshen it up by giving Waggy a start.

You sell him well! I just dont agree with it though.
Waggy linked up much better with Solly, whereas Green doesnt really help out Solly to much when on the back pedal.
Not sure if his shot is anything special either.

Definitely better going forward though, especially with the ball at his feet. I like his runs down the wing and he can whip in a decent cross at the end of it.

Because Solly is a beast, Id still start Green. Waggy is a good impact if we ever need it late on in games.
  • Green does get back and help solly ....
We have let in less goals per game with green in the side than waggy but I suppose that's nothing to do with green and isn't a stat that backs up the waggy helps solly defensively cliche that a lot hang on to so we'll ignore it
