Hamer didn't have his best of games but the cross he dropped he would normally take and sorry but he was dragged into the goal for the one they seem to be moaning about. Using the Lee goal for Huddersfield as comparrison weakens the argument even more, it was a simply terrible decision and the ref is going to get in trouble for that one I think.
Sheff Utd didn't create much to be honest for all their positive play in other areas and their final ball was terrible so if they have sussed us out, forgive me for not quaking in my boots.
Our weakness was losing to two silly little Lonson ( ish ) teams via deflected goals. Should be 6 points better off - ha ha - has the bar been raised or what !!
We haven't yet played Huddersfield, they're unbeaten in 40 odd games We rely on BWP's goals Jackson/Stephens cannot be replaced We'll struggle against big physical teams We haven't played Sheff Wed away
If a good young goalie who concedes less than a goal a game is considered our 'weakness', then I'm quite happy with that.
Ben Hamer was good enough to backstop Brentford to a League 2 title at 21 years of age (45 apps, 20 clean sheets). That gets overlooked quite a lot - He's been there and done it in the lower leagues.
Hamers lack of confidence handling crosses Saturday was a concern.
Agree with Paddy, he is a very good keeper learning his trade. I said when he joined that he is poor at crosses for a big guy, but he is obviously working on it. He comes for everything he can get near which is good IMHO, don't forget we are a relatively short side. Much better than a keeper who hugs his line and lets defenders deal. My only criticism would be that he needs to go through a few players to get the ball, both ours and theirs if need be.
The rest of the defence are clearly aware of this "weakness". When Hamer came and flapped at the cross which Evans then skied over the bar, we had THREE defenders back on the line. It's called teamwork.
I think he has improved since he joined us- where I also raised my doubts about crosses. Saturday wasn't his best but he has dealt with crosses much better lately. If teams want to put aimless balls into our box- let them continue I say. Sheff Utd seem to be good at scoring against lesser defences so I could see them getting second (between them and Huddersfield) but what they may chose to forget is that outside of the goal is that we worked their keeper more and their final ball was extremely poor.
If crosses are our weakness it@s a good job we have the best 2 full backs in the division to stop them coming in. Solly and Wiggy constantly stop the player/s Saturday from getting any crosses in from the by line or even level with the 6 yard box. Utd kept having to pass the ball back and cross from the much less dangerous area of half way in our half. This was just meat and drink to the 2 best CBs in the division. Any that did go over them were heading for row Z. It was a great performance by our back 4. If they did think this was our weakness they didn't play to it very well, but I am of the opinion that our 2 full backs didn't let them.
He is the only real weakness in the side, being carried by an exceptional defence.
But I expect Chris to replace him with an experienced keeper in the summer, a bit like when Curbs signed Deano
Would hope that Roberts works him on crosses all week but at the end of the day you cant stop the guy coming steaming out and getting caught in no mans land like Yeovil, Orient, Sheff Utd etc etc and thats only in the last month.
Our weakness is in midfield when the opposition close down players quickly, we seem slow on decision making then, and to many passes go astray, also Green not to good at tackling and winning the ball back, probably why he gets so many yellow cards. If we make it into the championship then centre backs may not be nimble enough to cope with the best of the championship strikers who are quick and agile. It is worth considering, Sheffield united did out play us in the middle of the park and stopped us keeping possesion.

Hamer is our no.1 for a good while. Until a bigger club gets him.
It's interesting that you can still access other stories of the day at the bottom. My favourite is entitled 'Viduka's Title Pledge' - that didn't go so well, did it?
