The first is incorrect (though I thought Wales was technically a Principality?), but the second is correct. Canada and Australia are two prominent examples of Commonwealth nations who recognise the Queen, but are politically independent.
The Commonwealth realms (16 of them) are the countries that the Queen of England is also head of state of. The Commonwealth is made up of 54? counties, the Queen is simply the Head of the Commonwealth (ceremonial position, like the rest of her world wide roles)
Well the Olympic mangemants loss, Charltons gain as Solly wil be rested for the new season. There are few better under 23 right backs in Britain I would venture to say.
although it would have been richly deserved and great to see a charlton player at the olympics, it would mean he'd be fit and ready for the new season. If he was in the olympic squad it would have also meant premier league teams would come sniffing
It would be nice if got a England U-21 call up, we used to have several U-21 internationals, but recently all our best youngsters have got sold before they got to that age :-(

He's 22 - what is the qualification for the Under 21s (apart from the obvious one)

you can have some players up to the age of 23 i think (same as the olympic team beckunt can have some players over 23). i also believe 21 year olds qualify as u21 rather than one of the over age players. ???????

Whilst I checked this thread to find out about Solly (and am none the wiser!) I am interested in the GB/UK issue.
The Olympic team has often been referred to as 'Team GB' but is actually Team UK i.e. UK=Great Britain and Northern Ireland
However, whilst Great Britain - England, Scotland and Wales, there is added confusion in the term 'British' in that British (as a nationallity) includes Northern Ireland. With the added confusion that if you are from Northern Ireland you can also qualify for an Irish passport!
A British passport if for UK nationality and The British High Commissions and British Embassies overseas represent the UK (not just Great Britain). So British = UK
I've been saying for along time that this confusion is unhelpful and confuses Brits let alone foreigners!
Sounds like they are about to make the announcement of the squad: From Mark Dickinson, Time reporter on twitter. BREAKING: Beckham OUT of Team GB football squad. Giggs, Bellamy, Richards in http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/foot …
If anyone pays for the Times they can have a look at what the article says...
David Beckham is a shock omission from the Olympic football squad. The former England captain had dreamt of a finale to his career at the Games but Stuart Pearce has gone against all expectations by picking Micah Richards. Beckham had high hopes of leading Team GB as one of three over-age players. Having played a major role in winning the Games for London in 2005, he craved a chance to play at Old Trafford and Wembley in a Great Britain shirt. Pearce went to watch Beckham in America only last week but he has gone against all expectations – of the BOA, Locog and his own hierarchy at the Football Association – by omitting the LA Galaxy player. As expected, Pearce has selected Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs as two of the over-age players in his 18-man squad. But he has also gone with Richards, the Manchester City defender who had caused such controversy earlier this summer by refusing to go on the standby list for England at Euro 2012. Beckham is still expected to come to the Olympics and may have a role at the Opening Ceremony but he will be shocked to have been left out by Pearce.
Hmm is that a wind-up? Its weird that its in the Times but I really can't believe that Stuart Pearce thinks Micah Richards is the best English player over 23?
But this wont be a team picked on ability it will be a team picked on ensuring that all the home nations are represented.
Not sure I like Bellamy getting into the squad ahead of Beckham. Whatever you think about Beckham he's always conducted himself brilliantly, had a big role in the Olympic bid, grew up in the area of the Olympics and would bring a lot of interest to the football tournament. I think he's earned the right to be there, Bellamy's an orrible little bloke.
They've also got a ton of tickets left to sell.....good luck!
Strange talk about Beckham's "poor form" - He was absolutely brilliant for the LA Galaxy last season, probably the best form he has had since he went over there.

Bellamy is (was) captain of Wales and it's meant to be a British side.
A political rather than footballing selection I suspect.

been called up for the Euro's
A few months back they released dates for team GB as I think they may have been struggling to sell tickets
Old Trafford on Thursday July 26,
Wembley Stadium on Sunday July 29,
Millennium Stadium on Wednesday Aug 1
I think all of these dates are back to back games too.... so 30 mins after one match finishes, another starts
I read somewhere the full fixtures are pulled on 24th April

As for a wind up, I suspect Matt Dickinson has been talking to Pearce this morning.
