Footballers in hotel rape denial Footballers' rape charge remand A footballer charged with rape has had his bail conditions varied so he can spend Christmas Day with his parents.
Ched Evans, 22, the Wales and Sheffield United striker, and Port Vale defender Clayton McDonald, 22, deny raping a woman at a hotel in Rhuddlan, near Rhyl, in May.
They are banned under the terms of their bail from entering north Wales.
Judge Merfyn Hughes QC said Mr Evans could visit his parents in Rhyl on Christmas Day under curfew.
He granted a bail variation allowing the St Asaph-born striker to return to north Wales between 09:00 GMT on Christmas Day to 10:00 GMT on Boxing Day.
Mr Evans's barrister told Caernarfon Crown Court that he would need to be at a Sheffield United training session at 13:00 on Boxing Day.
The two defendants were told by the judge that their trial would take place in April.
Mr Evans, now living near Barnsley, scored the winner on his debut for Wales as a substitute in a 1-0 friendly victory over Iceland.
He came through the trainee ranks at Premier League side Manchester City before spending time on loan at Norwich City.
He was sold by Manchester City to Sheffield United in 2009 for £3m.
Mr McDonald is also a graduate of the Manchester City youth academy.
All horrible chants and I especially dispise ours. Hope and expect he gets off from what I've heard one silver lining is that I doubt we'll lose him in the JTW due to court case.
By the way £3m fee includes lots of clauses so a lot less at the moment. Thought he was poor on Saturday but been on fire.
