Ive been on the railway 28 years and it seems to me that in days gone by it had to be a major incident and then single line working or something would get the trains moving. Now the slightest bit of bad weather and there is a 50mph blanket speed restriction, line shut and buses on.When I was on the Southern I phoned the electrical control office at Lewisham loads but since Ive been under the overheads thankfully Ive not needed to call them.
I was on the 10.25 as well, ended up cabbing it and got in just before the second half. They should definitely refund - unfortunately by travel vouchers but they are valid on all carriers and we tried to console ourselves by thinking that it may at least cover a future away trip. Unsurprisingly, I've got a fair bit of experience of this (the last time being an 11 hour round trip to Whiststable to see my new born nephew, who I got chance to spend two hours with as a result. This was down to Network Rail but South Easter a good means of back up is to a) send back the tickets, b) attach a covering letter and c) quote the deviously hidden customer charter http://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/AboutUs/PassengersCharter/Pages/PassengersCharter.aspx from their website. You can also get a paper copy of their feedback form from St Pancras Tommy or anyone else, which will definitely get read as opposed to being lost in cyberspace as they may be expecting a compliment (and does have space for further feedback. The feedback form states that you are entitled
10.25 for me and made the 2nd half. I did meet Keely Hazell on my train, unfortunately she wasn't 24 from Bromley, she was 24 stone and a train conductor from Derby.
Such is life, we won, i didn't see the goal, but don't care, 3 points. The end.

How mental is that we got the 7.27 coming back and we had Katy Price she was slimmer though and was about 18 stone and she was also the Conductor.

Did she enjoy it being pointed out everytime she walked up and down the carriage like my Keely. To be fair, she took it well (so to speak).
Yeah she was pretty cool took it all in good heart. I'm sure we were not the first and wont be the last to make to take the mickey out of her. I was on the 10.25 aswell didn't realise her name was Keeley Hazell. I absolutley love Keeley Hazell as well, shame it wasn't the real one otherwise I wouldnt have minded missing the first half.
Any experts on claiming refunds here - what do you reckon is my best approach?
I had booked advance singles for the 11:55 from St Panc, arriving 14:00, and then separate advance singles for the 18:27 going back. Actually didn't work out too badly, as we got the 12:30 to Doncaster from Kings Cross, got a cab from there and got to the game just in time. On the way back, we got a train to Doncaster, and managed to get back to London at about 20:45.
Both the 11:55 and 18:27 were actually cancelled but obviously we made it up on East Coast.
Am I better off making out that we didn't go up at all cos the 11:55 was cancelled, or saying that we got up and back but both journeys were delayed by over an hour?
Also - does anybody know what the trains were like yesterday? Had actually booked tickets back for Sunday as well so if they were still screwed could potentially get them back too.

Cheers for that matey! I didn't get a chance to go to St Pancras yesterday but will try today armed with the Passengers Charter. The fact that the 19.27, the train I was booked to come home on, was cancelled can only help my case. Hopefully all will be OK.
I'm on the coach to Exeter and Chesterfield with Auntie Jean, hopefully nothing will go wrong there!
As for the idiot stewards who didn't want to admit the fans who arrived at half-time ("Shut the gate on them, quick!"), despite Wednesday knowing about the problem before 3pm, they were lucky it didn't kick off.
Why does this not suprise me. Seems the stewarding/police situation is very suspect there considering all the trouble we had after the game as well.
'Shut the gate on them, quick!', says nearly everything about the nature of power, and especially how the nearly powerless will try to exploit the miniscule bit of power they might be able to wield. No wonder Anarchy is such an attractive alternative.

I saw you lighting up a fag inside the carriage on the 7:27 It's against the law don't you know ;-)

Err, call me old fashioned, but why don't you just tell the truth?

I may do, just wanna make sure I sting the b*stards for as much refund as possible for all the stress / inconvenience / additional cost they caused.
When in similar situation at Leeds, we sent all tickets and receipts with letter of explanation, as to why we ditched train and got taxi as whole purpose was to see the Match etc etc and got full refund on tickets and for taxi. They did mention in their reply something along the lines we should have got permission for taxi in advance but recognised the urgency of the situation to get there on time.
Thats very interesting for future ref. lrobinson11, I'm surprised you got a refund for the cab too. We shared the cab with two others from the train and think they got the receipt so we won't get that back but will be happy with full refund for the trains.
They will pay for cabs, know someone who when to Walsall many moons ago. Their ticket had 23.40 on them from New Street for the return journey, the last train was 20 mins earlier. They jump in a black cab back to London and the rail company picked up the fare.
My dad seems to have misplaced his ticket for the 10.25 to Sheffield, i could quote the booking reference number for the three of us, but does his failure to produce his ticket in the form above mean he is ineligible for a refund? Also i'm guessing there are many like me who were supposed to catch the cancelled 1827 from sheffield, but ended up getting the one 20ish minutes later, is anyone applying to get this refunded?
Received an email promising a full refund of both journeys (multiple passengers), there and back.

How many times a season do people have this sort of thing happen when going to away matches by train?
I always travel by train to the aways, I find the trains very reliable, Oldham away two seasons ago we were late by an hour but still got to Manchester in plenty of time to spare. Yesterday must have been very frustrating particularly with the importance of the match
I'm sorry but I simple have to ask: why Elsfborg? You're not Mathias Svensson in disguise are you?
From February 2008 till April 2009 I lived in Sweden, a town called Boras 50 miles outside Gothenburg. Elfsborg play in Boras and are in the top division in Sweden. I had met him a few times before I moved, he is a top geezer and with him being from Boras and playing for Elfsborg he is a bit of a god to the Elfsborg fans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kShj9NEQM1s&feature=related
How many times a season do people have this sort of thing happen when going to away matches by train?
First time I've had a serious problem in 20 years following Charlton away by train & I go to the majority of aways. First time I've ever missed a game or even part of a game.
Used the train yesterday for the first time, usually drive , or get the butler to drive ;-0 ( to get to a football match) thought it was brilliant, a lot less stressful , even managed to read some of my Alan Sugar book , that the Mother in Law bought me for Christmas! ;-0

9 hours on trains on Saturday but at least I did get to see the 2nd half and East Midlands already have my claim form. We'll see what I get back.
