Yeah, I really hope those stuck on the trains got in
  • How many were affected?

How many did we take in the end including those who paid on the day?
  • Well thank you very much east midlands trains for ruining my and a fair few others day. It all started off fine on the 11.25. Then at Luton we ground to a halt and sat there for 1hr 25 mins.

Got to Bedford, another train coupled behind and they said we'd be off shortly. No. All off and onto buses. By this time its 1.15 so no way we would make it, not even for the 2nd half. I dejectedly got a train back to St Pancras where I picked up a refund form. The form only covered delays to a single train but as I had two single tickets and my journey wasn't completed I decided to phone them. Was greeted with a recording saying I couldn't be connected, I reckon its either due to no staff in or they've shut the phones off due to so many complaints!

Totally pissed off and gutted that I wasn't there to see one of our best wins this season.
  • Sorry to hear that Tommy. Absolute shitter.

It's things like this that make it impossible for me to live in the UK. I get too angry.

The privatisation of BR seemed to go through without any resistance really. Now it's impossible to buy tickets without having a masters in economics and even when you do, you can't get where you want to go.

    Sympathies to all those delayed.

  • Tommy, and all of the train travellers gutted for you. If I had gone to the trouble and expense of trying to get to Sheffield, and had your experience, I would have absolutely done my nut....can't really compensate with words, but a group action against the rail company might work....especially as there is some precedent around the networks of taxis being provided in some circumstances.
  • Thousands of people put up with this bollocks everyday. Paying hundreds of pounds a month to stand on a crowded trains into London.

A lot of Europeans I speak to are amazed at how tolerant we are of the sh*t we have to put up with.
  • I saw some creeping in with 10 minutes to go. Poor buggers. Missed a great (hard fought) win.

Get a grip - something broke unfortunately
  • Got into the ground with 11 mins to go, so that might of been me.

Just wanted to say thanks to the Stawards at Wednesday that got us into the ground quickly without wanting to check our overnight bags etc etc.

  • Fair play to you Stewart, at least you got to celebrate at the end
  • Did this effect everyone who got the train straight to sheffield or just those on east midlands joke of a service?

For some very weird reason (maybe the £12 return fee) I booked my ticket via Doncaster and had no problems fortunately.

Really feel for those that didn't make it though! Hope you can at least get some money back.
  • On the train - 19.27 from Doncaster (came this way and in Sheffield midday) lots of East Midlands Charlton fans on the train - at first they guard said they could not use this service but relented.
  • Just got back home, aborted at Leicester got train to Birmingham and back to Euston from there. Saw my 15 year old son with a tear in his eye for the first time in a long while. Gutted isn't the word
  • Cheers for the messages everyone, finally got to the game for the start of the second half, had some friends on the train behind who didn't make and feel gutted for the them. We got the 3 points that's all that matters now. i'm looking forward to seeing Jackson's wonder strike. Cheers Nick
  • p.s sorry for the swearing earlier I was tad angry :)
  • You should act your age Nicholas.

    You are SO excused, Nicholas.

    I'd have been suicidal !
  • Cheers WSS how does a 27 year old who looks like a 37 year behave?
  • 27...come on now...

Enjoy the rest of your evening mate, you deserve it.

  • More to the point, looks 37?
  • Just got in and let me just start by saying what a win!

Unfortunately however, the day was spoilt by these completely incompetent train companies. Got on the 10:25 from St Pancras which should have got into Sheffield at 12:52. Instead we arrived at 15:45 meaning that the whole first half was missed. I was supposed to be meeting a few old pals (Wedenesday fans) before the game too for some pre-match banter but those plans obviously got screwed. It could've been worse though as at least I got to see the second half and soak up the win of the season so far.

Tomorrow shall be spent writing a letter of disgust to Network Rail. These b******s are going down!

    .
  • It would be possible for the club to consider some form of compensation for those affected by the delays? The Charlton way?
  • Didn't even get to Sheffield in the end. Got the 10.55, which arrived at Leicester by 15.20. Decided we'd make the last 10 mins if we were lucky & then might not be able to get home. So we got on the next train back to London arriving at 16.50.
  • East Terrace - maybe in the days of the Prem & there being a decent amount of cash rolling around the club, but not at the moment.

  • Right just got back.
I was on the 10.25 from st pancras, saw a few faces that i recognized (choice, his mate, airman brown etc). We made the second half after 5 and a half hours on that bloody train.
What i have to say though however is....how well our fans reacted to these problems. No abuse to the helpless staff, just polite acceptance of very unfortunate circumstances. We even managed a smile every now and then.

Does anyone know what i do to get a refund?

You won't mate. You completed your journey, they completed their side of the contract. All timings given by rail companies are subject to change. It's a bugger but that is the way it is sadly.
All you can do is to take out a claim against the rail company in the Small Claims Court but it really won't be worth the aggro.

  • I was on the 10.55. Got to Leicester at 3:10 and decided to call it, were a fair few Charlton about town.

So we spent £80 between 2 of us to watch the scores come in on BBC in 'Spoons, then had to wait another 2 hours for a train to London. I am very, very happy that we won but overall it was a wasted, expensive day which allllmost makes me want to get the coach again.

Yeah, something always breaks. That's my point, halfwit.
