Darel and Hogan

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
As both were absent from the squad today, does this mean we're not retaining them?

  • Russel's loan wasn't up until tomorrow so was available so maybe he isn't staying. Not sure when Hogns loan is up but maybe he was still ill as he missed the Orient game because of flu. Maybe one of the press boys can enlighten us. Either way I hope Stephens is back sooner rather than later.

Hog is tomorrow as well, heard he was fit today, but it was from a friend of a friend so who knows
  • neither have been great imo, we can do better.
  • Tempted to keep Hogan although not sure where he would fit in.  Russel not bothered and can go back, would rather Hughes, Pritchard, and when fit Stephens instead of him tbh.
  • I think Ephraim is a good player and I hope we sign him permanently if we can to challenge the midfield.

Russell is no better than Pritchard IMO so not fussed.
  • if that is the case looks like neither are staying. I thought Hog would have at least been on the bench seeing as Jacko was never going to last more than an hour or so.

Friend of a friend who's cousin's mate's mum works with chris powell's mum's mate at tesco

i think i may know her

  • Think we should keep Hogan, he has a lot more to offer.
  • Would be a shame.  Both have served well and should have our thanks.

Exactly. Pritchard looks as good if not better than Russell and I personally prefer Waggy to Hogan. Be happy to see them both go back so CP can bring in others who are actually better than we've already got.

  • @billyriz Waitrose mate,never Tesco
  • Hogan was a good steady loan. He did score to seal our win against Huddersfield which is easy to forget.
  • neither have been great imo, we can do better.
    Agreed.
  • Be interesting to know who we can do better with without guaranteeing a first team spot.
  • I'd keep Hogan if cheap, never know Jackson or Green could get injured and we'd need another winger.

Russell was okay but if Alonso and Stephens are coming back he might not be needed, also we're linked with Coutts from PNE quite alot recently as well.
  • Marshall from Barnet still a target so he'd be the other winger if needed
  • According to SLP we are looking at extending Ephraim's loan or signing him permanently. He is ellegible for the Fulham game anyway so we have time to negotiate before the next league game. No mention of Russell
  • id keep hogan

not sure if we actually need russell
  • Both played their part in the last month, but not bothered about keeping Russell. Don't want to sign players based on them being ok while on loan.

This came up with Bessone last summer, did ok nothing more, we went out and signed a better left back instead. Russell doesn't look like the right partner for Hollands or an improvement on what we have.

Squad is already big, a left winger would be nice as cover but I don't think likes of Waggy and Pritchard should be dropped from the bench. Hard to see Ephraim signing permanently just to cover Jackson?
  • Ephraim has returned to QPR according to Sky Sports News

  • Confirmed on the QPR website also :

Posted on: Tue 03 Jan 2012

Hogan Ephraim has returned from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic.

The midfielder, who joined the Addicks on a short-term deal in mid-February, returns to Loftus Road having made four starts and one substitute's appearance, scoring one goal.

Elsewhere, Gary Borrowdale and Taylor Parmenter have returned from their respective loan spells at Barnet and Bromley.

  • If Hogan has gone back then it would seem likely that we will be getting another body through the door. Same said for Darel although that's not confirmed. Only reason I can see us not replacing the latter is if Stephens is now close to a return.

    "mid-February"?
  • we always have Euell to cover midfield ;-)
  • Just 'cause they have gone back no reason they won't return, Sky may just be responding to no news and jumping to conclusions, be good to see something on the OS
  • I reckon if Russell doesn't return it'll be because Powell is satisfied that Pritch can step up as required. With Stephens and Alonso coming back, we have Hughes, Hollands, Pritchard and Jackson for that central role as well. That's a lot of players there, particularly at this level

Staying until end of season, Russell that is.
  • Umm would have prefered Hogan to stay really. Happy with Russell though.
  • Didnt do anything wrong at all in his five games. Been there and done it in this league with Norwich so good signing.
  • also, good news for Francis haters...hes gone permanently to Bournemouth.
