Reading the referee piece on handball I can't see why the appeal is not entirely justified.
Firstly, the ball hit his shoulder so arguments about his arms or hands being in an unnatural position are irrelevant - but agree it probably was the main influence on the ref just as it is now on the views posted above. His shoulder wasn't in an unatural position it was at the top of his arm where it always is. He could have had his hands behind his back and the ball would have still struck his chest/shoulder. Handball for contact with shoulder surely must always entail a positive movement of the shoulder towards ball, you can't get a shoulder out of the way of a ball bouncing up at pace from a few yards away and hitting your chest first.
Secondly, I agree with Rickofold here, not a goal scoring opportunity - "because it would have deflected off Hamer's chest away from the goal", no possible offence occurred until it hit his shoulder which he couldn't move out of the way if he wanted. Mooney had already lost his goal scoring attempt the moment the ball hit Hamer's chest, not subsequently when it unavoidably hit his shoulder as accidental hand ball.
All the ref has to do is say he thought it hit his shoulder and had he seen it hit his chest first would not have seen it as Hamer preventing a scoring opportunity.
It was a joy to watch players like Chopper Harris and Norman (bites your legs) Hunter. Even our own Phil Warman liked a meaty tackle. None of them would last five minutes in todays game.
They'd last about 15 seconds longer than the person they tackled though
Bit nervous about Sully in goal v Fulham, though - hope he is working closely with the defence in training this week, as there was a clear lack of rapport v Orient....
I think people were harsh on Sullivan against Orient, he turned in a perfectly assured performance. The thing we'll really be lacking though is Ben's distribution. Sully's kicks only have two types - smashed up slightly too long or barely clearing the ground, giving the ball to the opposition if we're unlucky. Sullivan really needs to work on that if he's ever going to displace Hamer
Sorry but I thought Sullivan was awful. Every ball into the box he looked lost and twice he was actually embarrassingly poor when coming for the ball. One very good save though. If we go up he is light years from the standard required.

Not sure that Hamer's distribution is much better. Seems to favour hoofing it towards the right hand touchline whenever possible, often going stright out of play.
The only reaon they uphold so many decisions is because they don't like to admit they are wrong. Never a red. Hit his armpit and he wasn't the last man.
Any keeper who comes charging at an opponent like a wild thing, arms raised and risking coming out of his area and committing a handball is asking for trouble. Hamer's red card was dubious but not 'ridiculous', 50/50 yellow or red. Hopefully he'll learn from this.
Arms up, out of his area, shot on goal, arm stops it, red card, no question. Don't know why we bothered given the rules these days.
In my opinion m'lud these frivolous appeals merely reflect a general reluctance in modern society to accept that rules are there to be adhered to for the general good
Predictable decision and the club have done well in appealing. Because of this Hamar played against Brentford and is available for the Sheffield games. The only game he'll miss is Fulham which he may well have been rested for anyway. The only risk they took was if it was considered 'frivolous' and this was a calculated risk that paid off. You know it makes sense. :-)

Ben Hamer will miss Saturday's FA Cup tie v Fulham after the FA today upheld his one-match ban (MW)
could have been worse and not unexpected
At least it wasn't deemed frivolous like Sankofa's.
Let's be thankful for that.
If Hamer has to miss a game then Fulham is the ideal one.
ONE AIM!!
Anyway it was never going to be overturned and he only misses a cup game where Sullivan has a chance to shine.
Correct decision, silly appeal.
Think Sullivan was guilty of being under prepared against Orient but doesnt bother me that he plays in this game.
New keeper a must when we get out of this hell hole league.
