Yes Jackson was a great performer, and thriller was an iconic album, the songs are very memorable, and is a true classic, rightly so.
Both stars , had feet of clay but Elvis was the first rock and roll singer/performer. His manipulative manager made him do those dumb movies' his words' when he should have kept to his gospel/blues roots. People forget that this music broke the mould of modern music, and performing. Both became tragic figures, almost as famous for there excesses then there talent.
You say his music broke the mould but wasnt his it was someone else's music which he performed. Performed very well and in a mould breaking style but it wasn't his. Great performer without a doubt and wonderful voice but Jackson performed at the same mould breaking standard and was able to do that to his own work. Therein lies the difference.
Anyone interested in this SRA1 canvas of Elvis, its up for auction on a German Shepherd Rescue site. It hasnt reached its reserve yet but if someone wants it I see that half the total goes to the Upbeats/Minibus/whatever admin wishes. If I've trod on anyones toes with this let me know and I'll remove it. ; ) Cheers Ray
Now i like Elvis , but i also quite partial to a bit of Michael Jackson ,....... But which is better ?..................... theres only one way to find out . FIGHT !
Elvis ... simply no contest .. neither wrote their own material, Elvis could sing ANYthing and make it sound wonderful. Jackson's songs were mostly written by Rod Templeton from Cleethorpes and Jackson's sound was invented and engineered by Quincy Jones, Plastic Jacko I'm afraid in more ways than one.
Has to be Elvis, I'm no fan of either (if yu wanted to listen to blues and rock music then listen to something original), but I would pay and travel to watch him perform. If Michael Jackson was playing a gig in my neighbour's garden I wouldn't get off my chair.

Bullcrap. First of all it's Temperton not Templeton, secondly Jackson wrote roughly 50% of his own material (as opposed to 0% for Elvis Presley), third you are an absolute tool.
Don't make things up to sound intelligent because you aren't smart enough to begin with.
Elvis was what would be considered now a manufactured act, how can he be regarded as the greatest ever? If that's the way this is going then 'take that' are better- manufactured but had more of a hand in creativity. I don't like jacko but he was the real deal.
What, you mean he entered a karaoke competition on national TV, or that he was put together by a 1950s Simon Cowell? Never mentioned either of those in any history I have read. The question wasn't about who was the greatest ever, just who was better out of Elvis and Jacko.

g f y ... and grow up, if you believe that soppy jacko wrote ANY of his own material, you are the silly little boy too young to have a tool .. Jackson was a perverted little nonce and a manufactured 'artiste' with all his silly little squeaks, probably his odd brother pinching his arse .. a nonce from a nonce family
Jackson was a star at 8 years old wasn't he? And when was the last time you heard Elvis on the radio. Jackson was king of pop, Elvis king of rock. Jackson for me purely because I don't like Elvis songs. Bet there's more people on here who have a Jackson record in the archive than Elvis.

Soppy Jacko? Bit rich from the self-confessed Shania Twain fan.

Part of my dislike of Jackson was that he was clearly being used and abused by his family, his record label and management team and assorted other hangers on. I just could never like his music or get the fuss/hysteria when he clearly was being used like that, surely anyone buying his records and being a "fan" must have realised at some point that they were aiding and abetting this abuse.

What's it like living in an alternative universe?
hahahha Shania ... a very pretty lady, not a bad voice and nicely produced music ,, and I'll whisper this, I like all types of music except what I consider to be 'manufactured tosh'.. it's all a matter of taste and experience really ... Shania? .. my friend who was here with me when I wrote on the subject, she is the Shania fan, much more of a 'fan' than me, I'm more of a jazz, motown and rock 'fan', 70s rock like Santana and the Doors, Van Halen, stuff like that .. what are your opinions on Luther VanDross? ... a better or worse vocalist than (say) Michael (oooooohh) Jackson ? .. and my universe ? .. beam me up to paradise & phasers on stun for you son .. have a nice evening
