ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE FILM... IF YOU GET A CHANCE DEFINITELY WATCH IT! YOU NEED TO BE READY FOR SUB TITLE READING, HOWEVER THE MOST INCREDIBLE FILM

In English, of course, this film is called Life is Beautiful. Brilliant film but it did win 3 Oscars in 1999 & has an IMDb rating of 8.5. Unknown maybe but certainly not underrated.

Sex lives of the potato men. Course, base, universally panned, and made me laugh out loud.
  • Bunny & The Bull. Euro roadtrip weirdness from the Mighty Boosh director.
  • 'The Dead Zone': one of the best Stephen King adaptations.

'Switchback': Denis Quaid hunting killer Danny Glover with lots of twists and turns.

  • The Star Wars prequels (3-2-1 in terms of quality). Well known yes but widely slated, I'm just enough of a nerd to enjoy them but not so nerdy that all the continuity stuff sends me in to a rage.
  • Two Days in the Valley - twisty turnathon (not the re-telling of Uncle Les's disastrous reign at Charlton).
One Night At McCools - Pulp Fiction style romp with Liv Tyler looking awesome
  • Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead

Definitely! Superb film but only a handful of people that I know have even heard of it, let alone seen it.
  • Angel Heart.  One of De Niro's best characters, albeit little more than a cameo.  (Rare) Great performance from Micky Rouke.  Neat story and twist at the end.  Very well directed by Alan Parker with excellent music by Courtney Pine for the jazz lovers.
  • Probably not going to be a popular choice - but Telstar, the Joe Meek biography.
  • This thread is a great idea but ruined by the posts. Sex Lives Of The Potato men... The mention of this makes my blood boil. A disgraceful waste of funding and a collosally bad film. It's not underrated, it just appeals to very few people. Because it's shit. And that's not even debatable!!

Goodfellas? Wtf? Star Wars? Three of the highest grossing films of all time? Underrated? Jesus wept. Memento? Little seen is not underrated. And it's not even little seen. Angel Heart is highly rated and made money. Why is that on here?

Switchback is a great call. Not a fan of Things To Do In Denver but that's the kind of movie that deserves some defense from a fan.

  • Jimmy has spoken ....

Hamburger Hill is a good one
As is the Dave Robicheaux film starring Tommy Lee Jones (can't think of the title ?!!?)
  • Man on the Moon, the biography of Andy Kaufman is a good film and Jim Carrey's best performance imo.

Wonder Boys with Michael Douglas and Toby Maguire is another little gem imo. May be a bit slow for some people's tastes though.

Heavenly Creatures is a good shout too. Not watched it for a long while but enjoyed it when I did.

Angel Heart is on here because I never hear anyone talking about it.
  • The Natural with Robert Redford.

Angel Heart totally deserves to be classed as an underrated movie. It never gets mentioned when De Niro is spoken about.

Talking of the great man.  Flawless is another underrated movie

  • Is 'Things to do in Denver...' underrated? I don't know anyone who thinks its underrated - and most people I know have seen it as well, so it's not 'little seen' in my experience. Its a great film in any case. I'll give two examples - The Village and Lady In The Water. Absolutely love both of them - superb bits of filmmaking savaged by the critics because they were expecting another Sixth Sense. In fact, Lady In The Water has an arsehole film critic in it, obviously there to make a jibe at Shyamalan's critics. He gets killed in it :)
  • Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - Steve Martin and Rachel Ward

a great homage to film noire.  Owes a lot to Woody Allen too but one of Steve Martin's lesser known, and great, films

Sex lives of the potato men. Boil away sunshine. Just my opinion, take it easy...

Man on the Moon and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - both good calls. I would add Lonely Guy and Bowfinger from Mr. Martin's portfolio, unlike the truly dreadful Cheaper by the Dozen.

  • Defiance with Daniel Craig. It was on BBC2 earlier, and I watched it for the second time. It's one of my favourite films and the fact it's a true story gives that little extra.
  • The Ninth Configuration (Stacey Keach at his manic best)

    Lives of Others.
Certainly not underrated by anybody I know who has seen it. Brilliant film .
  • not exactly an underrated film, but how many people actually went to see The Shawshank Redemption at the cinema?

The highest rated film of all time on IMDB.com

Great film but nowhere near the best of all time.
  • Didn't think much of The Mist. I thought the ending was terrible and overall the film was a bit of a mess in my opinion.

I loved the ending . The critics didn't like it either but it has a big cult following .
Each to their own i suppose.
  • Coming to America, I thinks it's a masterpiece.
