Andy Hughes

edited December 2011 in General Charlton
Where is he?

Been a fixture in matchday squads since he signed and has impressed since he came into the side.

Powell mentioned he wasnt happy about being left out against Huddersfield.

Hope there hasnt been a falling out.

  • He was at the game yesterday. I know Powell always takes 2 or 3 players outside of the 16 squad.

Hughes, Hayes and Evina were doing sprints while rest of the squad were warming up.

  • Hmm. He's been a part of a great run. In POWELLY we trust though. He ain't got much wrong so far

Pleased you started this Clem, I was of the exact mInd.
  • He had a poor game at Brentford. With only 4 outfield subs it seems a good call to leave him out as Pritchard and Waggy give us more options. If anyone could feel aggrieved about not making the bench it is surely Evina who has done nothing wrong when I've watched him.
  • Loanees coming straight in to the first 11 unsettling the squad perhaps? hope cp dont makes mistakes of his predecessors

Suspect this is what pissed him off before the Huddersfield game.

agree.. But didn't russel save us at one point ?
  • I get the feeling Hughes was bought in to "do a job".  That was probably to be the old head (along with Euell) that we would need at certain times in the season.  I am sure he had no expectation of playing every game.  He had a good run in the side, has been dropped probably a little unfarily in some ways but that is squad football nowadays.  I am sure he will have his chance again and it will be up to him to stay in again when he gets it.

Don't think we have enugh loans to worry about previous mistakes - only 3 if i am right and one sits on the bench every game (Cort).  Ephraim was bought in as cover and was well needed so only Russel is maybe keeping a squad player out of the side at the moment.

  • Since Hughes has started we have won every game comfortably except maybe Brentford, he should still be starting.

everyone was saying oh we shouldn't drop hayes its harsh we shouldn't drop waggy blah blah blah

each time the team has been improved by a better player coming in

this is what happens as you improve as a team the worse players drop further down the pecking order for places or get moved out allowed to leave

    in SCP we trust

  • Didn't CP say Hughes had a bit of a knock the other week?

  • What do people expect, Hughes to be delighted about getting a rest? It's the kind of player Hughes is, he wants to play every minute of every game, and if he doesn't he's there on the sidelines warming up or giving advice to the players on the pitch. I wouldn't read too much into him being annoyed about being dropped against Huddersfield. I'm happy that he cares and he's professional enough to not get upset by it
  • Russel was MOM yesterday and has shown more creativity and impetus in 90 minutes than Hughes has in 5 games.

    In SCP we trust.
  • Ephraim was MOM. Ephraim & Wiggins provided most of the danger.

Russell was decent & is more attacking than Hughes, which is why he probably gets the nod, as we are looking to win games.

I reckon Russell may be getting mistaken at times for Ephraim, as they look similar from a distance.

No way was Russell MOM, although he played well enough.   IMO.

  • Do we need the strengthen in the January window if so where and who should we bring in its a long run in and we should now consolidate not slip away .

A spare right back as cover for Solly would be useful, and another centre back.

Who we sign depends on who we off-load, Benson will go and we need some back-up for BWP.

  • We do need to strengthen in January and I think we will. A striker is a must and I still think a right back is needed. Anything more would be a bonus.
  • If the right player is available at the right price then great, but otherwise I think we have a good enough squad.  Hughes can play at right back and we have a great youngster in that position.  Up front it depends on shipping out Benson.  Otherwise you'd think that Waggy/Euell/Benson/Hayes and some of the young lads should be enough for this league.
  • I don't care who he picks who he upsets who he pleases we have lost 1 game and won the majority of every game we have played

He has not made 1 mistake in selection in my opinion

And long may it continue, we all have to realise we will lose games this season

Really ?  CP clearly doesn't rate Benson so he won't get a game, Euell is a make weight, how he gets on the bench is a mystery to me, he offers nothing. Hayes is an average Div 1 player with a dreadful 1st touch & offers no real goal threat. We definately need another striker to come in as basc up to BWP & if benson does go we'll need two.

  • Russell had a very good game yesterday, better than any game Hughes has had in my opinion, and offers more. More forward thinking and great covering to gain the point yesterday. Also think he's loan will become permanent in January.
  • I'm pretty sure that Russell came in with the intention of making it permanent, in terms of wages, price etc he must be well within range, quality wise he seems to fit well too. Where this leaves Hughes I don't know.
  • Russel was MOM yesterday and has shown more creativity and impetus in 90 minutes than Hughes has in 5 games.
Hughes was never in the team to provide creativity (fortunately). What he did was allow others to express their own creativity and attacking urges whilst he covered at the back. And of you look at the results we had when he was in this role it seemed to do the trick! Not saying this was solely down to Hughes but our attacking play has suffered a bit since he was dropped.

  • I was not sure/happy when Waggy and Hayes were left out, but CP knows what he is doing.
  • I think waggy and hayes were given pretty good chances to establish themselves
