Facebook

edited December 2011 in General Charlton

I have just signed up for facebook and all I have to do now to become a full member is to reply to the confirmation email. Before I do this, what do people reckon to facebook?

Is it worth joining or is it just an over hyped time killer.

  • Don't do it, to many self obsessed people knocking about on there. I think social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter will eventually die out.
  • Sick of people blocking me
  • Everyone seems to hate it yet can't stay off it. If you enjoy seeing how retarded people you went to school with are, how attention-seeking some people can be and the how philosophical (not) others are then it's the place for you. I could spend all day telling you how much I hate it.

What finally convinced me to delete my account was when a 'friend' posted pictures of her premmature baby in hospital with wires coming out of his body.
  • I find CL much more addictive than that pile of tosh .
  • I ditched it a few months back, everyone I have managed to shun over years tracked me down and spammed me into leaving

    Yup
  • If you have friends, then you should get it. If not, you dont need it.
  • Got an account never use it. Useful when you're single. Full of attention seekers. "So-and-so is sad" "So-and-so is having a bad day" "Why is it always me"

Because you think the world is against you. Man up and get on with your life.

  • Its up to you what you make out of it, if you have friends who are self obsessed etc you can just block their news feeds, its a great way to keep in touch with close friends and family. Can be annoying when photos of you get put all over the place after a nightout etc.
  • One of my flat mates is constantly updating her Facebook with pictures, statuses and posts on other peoples walls.

Some people HAVE to show the world that they are "popular" and have a great life.

    Frustrating

9 updates in the past 2 days if anyone was wondering :/

    Not mentioning the 200+ pictures
  • Its a pain in the arse because once you get used to how to use it they change it.  I've met a few old friends i haven't seen in years via Facebook so in that respect it's good but otherwise it's not worth the hassle.
  • Was on it for a year but got so pissed off with it all.
  • It's great. You can add all your friends, then add loads of their friends and loads of people you have never met or never wish to. Then you can read through pages of their posts, giving a minute-to-minute account of their exciting lives. You know what time the wake up, leave for work, have a coffee break, go to the shops, their taste in music/films etc.

Stalking within the safety of your own home............................................

The final bonus to all this is it's also another way for data to be collected about you and sold on to market research companies.

    Personally, I'd stay well clear.

But then you remember why you lost contact with them in the first place............................................ People move on and real friends move with them.
  • If you are someone like me that once had many friends and got out a lot to now has moved away and spends majority of time indoors then it's a good way to keep in touch.
  • If like me youre living abroad, its useful to keep in touch with friends and family. But having said that I think its vastly overated in general...I only signed up shortly before I left to live in Oz....If I was back in Kent  I dont think Id use it all.
  • If you want see pictures of your mates new birds girls holiday to Malia 2009 you have two options:

    A. Break into her flat
    B. Get onto Facebook

I'm too short to reach windows so I'm all over Facebook like a cheap suit.
  • It's a laugh when you block Nolly.
  • I use it but only because I have a band page- I have a personal page, but have deleted every single 'friend', only keep it for the pages I've 'liked' which keep me updated with info etc, having no friends on it means I don't get bombarded with people's crap.

  • And everyone feels the need to attention seek talk about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING
  • Lets be honest, it's a social network site. It's not like everyone's going to not write anything ever.
  • I use CL more than facebook now. Facebook novelty worn off and Twitter is used rarely.

  • I haven't closed down my account but also haven't been on it in about 6 or so months. Can't be asked with it anymore and don't feel the need to tell people what I'm doing

Where else do you need to go for all things intelligent and informal on CAFC and the world?
  • Sick of people blocking me

    That reminds me
  • It's fine.   I stick to the rule that I'm only "friends" with people I'd be happy to see turn up on my doorstep.  Keeps me in touch with friends and family in other countries and around the south east.
