  • He could knock the ball forward and just run. SCARE the sh-t out of defenders..
Imagine bolt up against the Doc
That's a bit unfair, the reason why the Doc is called the ginger Pele is not for his pace, but his foot work.
  • There have been plenty of national class – and some international - sprinters who try to make it other sports, typically RL/RU and football, and most of them fail dismally.

I had a mate at 6th Form called Junior Paul, ex St Josephs’s Academy, the bloke was built like a brick shit house and was a very good sprinter at Blackheath Harriers and played RU for (I think) Blackheath RU (could have been Askeans).

Anyway, he got a pro contract with the London Broncos RL club in about 1995 (while they were playing at The Valley) and I went to see him play there against somebody in a Super League game, I can’t remember who it was now.

Feck me, poor old Junior, all 6” 2’ and 16 stone of him got made to look like a right schoolboy wonder out there, the game just passed him by and he could barely get three or four strides in when taking the ball up before getting smashed by 2 or 3 defenders in every tackle.

As the great Rugby saying goes, “You can’t run without legs!”

  • Does that explain why Heather Mills never made it at outside centre?

Ironically, his son Callum has just been picked for U16's England Rugby League.....

  • Yeah great idea lets go sign him.  The last 'speed merchant' we signed was Dennis Rommedahl he was quick, no bloody good but quick<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  • I've got a sneaking suspicion this story dates back to one of our periodic "post the most ridiculous guff you can imagine on the Football Rumours website, and see who bites" sprees.

Didn't know that, mind you I have not seen Junior since that day at The Valley.

Have to remember that Daley wasn't exactly a sprinter although he had to face the 110 m hurdles as one of his 10 events.

Just a powerful, fully committed all rounder . Always remember him whistling through the National Anthem at The Coliseum .

Thompson had a personal best of around 10.2 (10.19 I think) for 100m, and he was on the UK 4x100m relay team at the '84 Olympics. He WAS fast, but by the time he tried out with Wimbledon has was running outside 11 seconds. Still fast, but not as.
