  • and on traditionally a bad day for attendances. Once again credit to the Club for trying to get as many bums on seats as possible. Would try and persuade Mrs Large but seeing as we are moving the day before I don't hold out to much hope.
  • 19,999. Gutted cos I am going to miss my first home game of the season. My ticket is anyones for a score? ;-)
  • Airman - quick question, but perhaps one that you may not be able to answer though we shall see

With all these promotions and initiatives the board is coming across fantastically well and as if it really is interested in the fans and in breathing new life back into the club and not just in the bottom line (which of course has to be every business' foundation)

How much of it is that they are bringing new ideas to the table and really pushing it forward and how much of it is that they are letting people who always had these ideas up their sleeves have a more free reign over implementing them with a change of attitude and a more stable financial position?

    Well done all involved again.

  • The ideas are not new, we simply have more scope than in recent years. There's an old saying that you can't polish a turd.

The board deserves the credit either way.
  • These promotions are a fantastic idea. And airman your link to this forum is much appreciated.
  • ......but you CAN roll it in glitter!
  • ......but you CAN roll it in glitter!

    You what? You what????
  • Yes, but all that glitters is not gold.  :-)
  • Airman how much are the posh seats for the Oldham game?
  • Great deals, certainly will not be buying a season ticket next year if they keep this up!

Have Oldham sold a lot of tickets?

Even with the dearest season tickets, the club could discount more than half the games before match by match purchase would be cheaper... and we won't be doing that.

  • Buying a season ticket is not about the price for me, it is about buying into the club and showing support.  I even bought a 5 year season ticket when they were offered as the club needed my money, I will always buy a season ticket and am proud to do so.

Indeed. It is also having the same seat and avoiding the hassle of buying tickets for every game.
  • And being sure you can actually get in! .... OK maybe thats a few years away yet, but who knows?!

Plus, as I live 40 plus miles from the Valley, paying 10p a minute to wait to buy tickets and then a £1 handling chargeI

Similar problems with travel but I always buy online.  Recently bitten the bullet and got a couple of half-season tickets, mainly to get our 'favourite' seats (really annoyed that someone got in before us for the Oldham game...) and also to show support.  Since I've bought the tickets I've lost 2 more games (business trip and Bury postponement) so I'm definitely out of pocket on the adult deal but sometimes it's about more than the money...

I know you should not do this but you could sell them on to a fellow Addick if you know and trust them.  Getting £10 back would help

  • I wouldn't worry; the amount of adults going in with kids tickets shows the club don't care what goes on so long as they are getting bums on seats
  • we have 70+ kids comming from junior reds fc, charlton have been kind enough to give these to the junior reds. junior reds fc are also being presented with the charter standard award on the pitch at half time its the 4th year in a row the club have won this.

i hope its a massive attendance as it will be the first time a lot of the kids have been to a football match.hope to get them all back there in the new year.

Mythbusters proved conclusively that in fact you can polish a turd!

I have to admit that I do sometimes sit there gnashing my teeth. Would it kill the nice lady to go just a little bit faster? And yes I know it's all money to the club...

Not really. It's mostly money to the telecom provider. We have this system because the lines into The Valley won't cope with the volume of calls without it and the club has not been willing/able to upgrade it.

    How do you know?

  • He's Michael Slater stupid!

This sounds like supermarket sales patter!  Buy one get one half price!  Supersaver!  Money back if found cheaper elsewhere!  Guaranteed first team squad will play!  Sounds good but doesn't mean a lot.  Sorry fell for it when some seasons ago there was going to be a £10 discount for season tickets, because they had over discounted the previous season.  Never happened.

Don't think Airman is lying davex2

Do the maths and I bet you cant prove that buying 23 individual tickets has ever been cheaper than getting a standard season ticket in the past 10 years.
  • Just exactly what do you think he is saying?
