Don't understand the Solly criticism. He was dropped against the only team we lost to. Speaks volumes really. He has had pretty much every left sided opposition player in his pocket so far and he his only going to get better and better. Stuck like glue to Carlisles winger all afternoon and rarely gave the ball away. "We've got Chris Solly.........we've got Chris Solly.........".
We have an outstanding back 4 and very decent back up with people like Cort, Evina and ( if necessary ) Hughes. There cannot be a pair of full backs in this division who come close to Solly and Wiggins - they are tremendous young players who will continue to get better and they are bound, at some stage, to attract attention from other clubs. We will be in a much better position to resist that sort of interest if and when we return to the Championship in May.
Solly just keeps surprising me , he comes up with the goods game after game , only thing i hope he can improve on is crosses into the boxes for Yann , and i'm not saying he's bad at it.
Watch how Solly stays close to his man, then suddenly he nicks the ball off him and sets off up the line leaving him behind. Despite his height, he gets up really well for the ball, and just having him there playing his heart out must be a wonderful motivation for his team mates. As someone mentioned, CP replaced him against a physical Stevenage team for our only loss. Can't see that happening again. The lad is living the dream, and deserves every plaudit he gets.
I think we also have to consider the other areas of the team. The midfield not only aren't afraid to dig in and play as an advanced rear-guard but also as an attacking threat. Along with our forwards being a constant worry to opposition defence, teams are less reluctant to come at us this season, as they are beginning to realise how lethal we are on the counter.
It's all about getting the right balance throughout the team and I'm glad to say that so far CP has got that spot-on.
The desire and commitment is so evident in all our back four. They are performing as a team and anyone not trying would be so badly exposed. Our centre backs are plain solid and our full backs improve with every game. COYR
Here are the stats for our back four, plus a cautionary note for Danny Green
Lookin good for Solly, such a class player.
Tends to come in less than Wiggins so guess thats why he doesnt get as many shots in, but that one that rattled the bar a couple of months ago was a beast
Penalties - I take the figures from the Football League official stats and I think they get them from the Press Association, according to them Taylor conceded a penalty at home against MK Dons and if I remember correctly there were some differing opinions as to who gave away that penalty. Because of the difficulty in knowing who gives away penalties it is a stat that I usually ignore but put it in this time to give added information or misinformation !
