Genius of an agent he has!
Good on Powelly , don't want players with the attitude they are doing us a favour being here , sends out the wrong signals, i guess we've moved on since he was here considerably.
"he did mention that in the next few weeks they will decide on whether to offer kelly youga and john fortune a new contract both are training on a regular basis. He felt the club owed the two players some loyalty for the commitment they both put to the club in recent years, so by keeping them fit they will be able to find a new club or even have a future at cafc. "
I think this would be excellent.. Totally agree with Powell - loyalty should be a two-way street.
HENRY, many thanks for your concern. Grace spent a lot of her childhood in a Latin American dance team, and currently works at the new Adventure Playground behind Jaguar on the Aylesford Business Park. As a consequence she has to have extra bone taken off both hips, apparently if we have a problem on our bodies, our brain tends to send help to that area which of course explains why I have not had the problem ( no brain ). For those of you living in N W Kent with youngsters it might be worth visiting the AP, just find the Jaguar Dealer and they are right behind there.
A comment about CP based on what we are seeing this season. He is obviously his own man with a strong character, which is not fully seen as a player, particularly one with excellent humour. I am beginning to see why the Directors interviewed him, told him not to go too far, and then offered him the job. When you look at what he has done so far, including learning from a few mistakes, you have to remind yourself that this is his first management post. Anyone know what price I can get on Chris to one day becoming England Manager ?
Do we have money to waste ? We have stood by both players & seen them through their rehabilitation & while we don't know what two years out have done to Youga, John Fortune was clearly not good enough for us last year.
Help them get contracts elsewhere by all means, let them carry on training but if they're not up to playing first team football let them take an insurance pay out.I know a lot will slaughter me for those views but we're carrying one passenger in Jason Euell, unless we have VERY rich owners who can afford to throw money away there's no way that we should be handing out contracts.
Can't see them staying. CP knows that but he's saying all the right things which is what it's all about. Who do we think the players are that are here just to do a job in league 1 or is it a bit wrong to speculate on here?

Never stopped anyone before : - )
Hughes, Hayes, Euell. Good pros but getting on a bit, do a job and don't moan in a bad way when they are on the bench but maybe not quite enough for Championship. Maybe one or two more. Taylor (who has been fantastic) perhaps.
I took 'here to do a job in league 1' to mean players that have been in league one before and see it as 'their' league so would not move up with the team. So not players like Euell who have come down to this league to see their days out but more players like Benson who know this is their level.
But Benson is leaving and Powell doesn't want him to do a job in league 1 (not for us anyway) but sort of agree with what you say, although Euell is definitely only here to do a job. In fact i think he's been helping Colin Powell out the last couple of weeks.
I think Hayes could be a good enough squad player in the Championship.
Like the way he turned Stewart down. From the Summer, It has looked like he is trying to sign young hungry players who want to impress with the club and a few old heads who are good enough. Done very well with signing Kermorgant instead of Parkin
The Stewart situation is similar to what happened to Ben Thatcher, Pardew wanted to offer him a contract, he said he could get a better offer elsewhere and came back after a few weeks Pardew sent him away
Absolutely! When we first got Powell lots of people were saying that he might be too much of a nice guy to be a manager. I think we are seeing just the right balance from him: Nice when he can be, hard when he needs to be.
Anyway, who is Michael Stewart? Never 'eard of 'im ;-)
Must admit I still can not get over Powell is our manager and it's probably because I don't see Powell as being a manager. Still a wierd feeling as I think he should be playing at left back instead of Wiggins but I will get used to Powell being our manager in the end lol
I love listening to Powell on the tele to hear what he says because he comes accross a really decent guy and he seems to know what he is talking about.
Love the fact he said 'No thanks' to Stewart and serves him right for thinking he was too good for the club. As much as I liked Stewart and was sorry to see him go but if we had that attitude from a player, too right we should not have him on board.
I lost interest in our season when many considered Stewart to be our star player (alongside Dean Parrett). What is encouraging is that it seems any disinterest shown towards Charlton or sign of egotism simply does not wash with Powell. He's always stated his wish to educate his players on what it means 'to be Charlton', if heads are turned like Robbie's then it's cheerio. The result; a team that is proud to be playing in red & white, & united in this one aim business.
Under estimate SCP at your peril, he appears easy going and a nice guy on the outside but when it comes to it there is a steely resolve which all good managers have. Curbs, Fergie, Cloughie but to name a few. Many on here were calling for his head when we went on a bad run after the initial 4 game winning streak (and you know who you are) when he took over. I said then and I have been proven right, give him time to build his own team and then judge him. We are not half way through the season yet but In SCP I trust, ONE AIM, Onwards and Upwards COYR!
I think you can be decent but ruthless at the same time. Ruthless is a bit to strong a word possibly but what I mean is- if you know a decision has to be made you make it irrespective of any other factors. All of the players know Chrissy cares about them but they also know he will drop them if they don't do the business on the pitch. They also know he will bring in what he thinks are better players or players to provide competition if the opportunity arises.
All decisions have implications- looking after players the best you can sends a signal to other players and what he has done with Stewart does too. Maybe he was tempted to take him on but the signal was more important. He seems to be managing the club for tomorrow as well as today. Interesting that Ephraim chased a move here -players know each other and he must have heard good things to do that, especially when Championship clubs were interested. Things like that speak volumes.
It's going to be very interesting to see where he takes us because we seem to have found somebody a bit special. Surely there was a great deal of luck involved in appointing him - giving the board credit and all tha,t but could they have known how good he would be? Mind you we have been overdue some good luck!
Grade 1 tosser hope he never dons the hallowed shirt again had every opportunity to be a class player for us and treated every single one of us fans with contempt Those who want him back , he is not worth your admiration
NLA on the Youga thread.
Why's Powell talking about showing him the same loyalty he's shown us then?
I dunno where you get your 'inside info' from but I'd start questioning it.

I expect Doherty to feature again in the Champ - he's not suited to league 1.
