Jeremy Clarkson on the "One Show"

  • What a shame this nonsense has taken over from the real issues that ARE effecting millions of public sector workers. 10 minutes on Question Time ffs!

I don't believe for a second the Unions wanted to get dragged into a pointless petty argument like this but if they were asked for a reaction it's not a suprise they reacted like this is it?

Personally I'd have prefered the TUC to issue a statement that 'Clarkson is ignorant c##k without the inteligence to understand the issues, nevertheless we fully support his right to demonstrate this on national tv any time he wants.'

As an aside, most public sector workers are subjected to far worse and more targeted abuse on a frequent basis and that's what the discussion should really have been about if we had to have it.
  • What about the MP who said he wish we could go back to the 80's so he could assassinate Thatcher , is that offensive or funny? people take peoples words far to seriously and blow them out of proportion , anyone who has read a Clarkson book will not be surprised by his comments, he's got a new book out so i'm sure he's trying to promote it, and done a good job of it thanks to the unions!
Thats fine, as I assume he was a left wing MP, justifiable in their eyes, just ask Jon Rogers, Unison branch secretary calling people scabs and emailing them to tell them they should be ashamed of themselves, and are immoral for not striking.  That could be deemed as offensive, but one rule for the left, another for everyone else, they want democracy and free speech but on their terms only.

    The man is a mug

Oh really dizzee..........I suspect his enormous bank balance would suggest otherwise.
  • Yes - it's just not news, which is why no-one has come on to this thread to talk about it.

Could someone please start a new thread to say how ridiculous this thread is.

  • over 21000 people have complained now ... wonder how many of them actually saw the entire interview

If it's anything like the Brasseye thing, probably about 4.
  • I hope the next time Ken Livingstone or the Muslim League make some outrageous public comments the people on here defending Clarkson heed their own advice ('the comments were taken out of context', 'they shouldn't be talen literally', 'we have free speech in this country', 'people should stop over reacting and chill out') and not come on here venting their anger.
  • 23,000 people that need to get out a bit more.

  • **rolls eyes** at this thread !

Good grief - what a ridiculous non-story this is, and comparing a comment from an entertainer with comments from a political or religious leader just shows how many people in this out of kilter country have lost the plot.
All four of your quotes apply to any individual whether you like them or not. However once the individual is a 'representative', then there needs to be caution.

Livingstone is an odious twat and I treat his comments in exactly the same way I treat Clarkson's - i.e, publicity seeking and deliberately contentious.

Have you actually listened to the interview?
  • watched the full thing it was tongue in cheek and I would be bloody embarassed if I was a member of a union who's leaders were getting their knickers in a twist over it.It seems they are happy to achieve maximum publicity for their cause over a throw away comment.
So this. Who would think any else of what he said.
  • What does he need to do to get sacked

  • Phone Manuel from Fawlty Towers.
  • That is the problem sralan, some know what he is like and can see the comedy however those who flick onto the next channel at the sight of him, do not understand it. They tend to be the type who listen to morning worship and record antiques roadshow and critise people for watching Family Guy with their kids.
  • Kimbo i dont think Clarkson should be sacked--if (and thats a big IF) anyone its the person who scripted asking Clarkson that question at all. Why would you do that? with his record?

Rd Ed shows himself up yet agian by saying how bad it was and then admits he hasnt seen/herd the comments at all.
  • Clarkson is entitled to his opinion like we are ours ...............he just has more airtime than us!!!!!!!!!!!!

St pauls settlement group now that a different matter ...........waste of space -claiming and flouting society

  • What does he need to do to get sacked

A hell of a lot I'd imagine, considering the amount of money Top Gear generates for the BBC.
  • It was a joke for christs sake

First of all he said he supported them, Then in the interests of balanced debate he condemend them ( to death apparently)

Whats got into this country you can't make a joke about anything anymore It's all gloom gloom doom & gloom

W've even got austerity on humour now.

    Lighten up

  • Clarkson should be sacked.  Why?  Because he is on a motoring show test driving cars but has medicore driving abilities.  Someone competent should be employed instead.

Nonsense. I understand his 'comedy' perfectly well, and understand the context he said it in. I don't listen to morning worship, record the antiques roadshow or criticise people for watching family guy with their kids. The bloke's just a c***.
  • Hang on - people watch Family Guy with their kids?

If that happens, I'm criticising it.

The only less appropriate thing I can think of is watching The One Show with your kids.

  • How do people get worked up about stuff like this.
Wouldnt last a minute around my lads.

Thankfully TV isnt made just for your benefit, plenty of people like him, you don't, don't watch him, pretty simple I'd have thought.
  • the plot thickens, evidently Clarkson's comments were scripted by a BBC staffer .... the Beeb should get it's act together, it's remit is to report the news, not make it. I hope that Top Gear is dropped by the BBC. If it's such a good programme then sky or ITV will snap it up and I for one will not be paying (directly that is) for a programme which is utter schoolboy/spolil bratist rubbish .. have a nice weekend !!! .. Oh, and Clarkson thinks that the bodies of suicides who jump in front ot trains should be left out in the open for foxes and birds to peck at .. the geezertwat has lost it .....................
