What annoys me about this is that if you listen to the interview, he was so clearly joking about how the BBC must always be impartial.
What he said about people jumping in front of trains was far worse IMO.

As much as I dislike the man I totally agree with you.

I have seen news reports tonight where they have only picked out the " they should be shot" section of the interview on The One Show and as you quite rightly point out he was clearly joking and said what he said to give an alternative view to what he first said.
Having said that I wouldn't lose any sleep if he was forced to resign - symply because the man is a dinosaur .
  • Had lunch years ago in a rambling pub, The Wheatsheaf on A30. He was there, you could hear him rudely haranging waitresses from three rooms away.
  • PROPER BANTZ, LOLS!
You been in the pub all day Rothko?
  • I've just seen headline... union set to sue Clarkson over comments.

How embarrassing. Glad I don't belong to a union if true. Wasting money on a bloke with a big mouth cracking what he thought was a joke. Don't work in public sector but if I did I wouldn't be wetting my knickers over that. Be more concerned about other stuff.

  • I personally enjoy top gear however that is the only place I will watch him.

I agree with his views. If I went on strike I would be sacked.

it's bullshit . No union would sue a prick like Clarkson . In fact they couldnt care less about the moron .Why would they ? The headline may look good on the front of a shitty Murdoch tabloid to some sad brainwashed people - It absolutely amazes me that people still fall for such right wing propaganda .

  • Oh. Is it not true? How disappointing. I wanted to laugh at the stupidity.

It absolutely amazes me that some sad brainwashed people stilll get outraged at a stupid ill timed joke.
  • I know no one who is outraged at what he said . Which is exactly my point.
  • If this is all UNISON have to worry about and consult lawyers for then God help their members. Why even bother commenting about it?

How about focussing on the real injustices in this country, rather than what one shock jock decides to say to deliberately wind people up.

    Clarkson 1, UNISON 0

Amazing all these people who 'can't stand the man' seem to know his journalistic abilities inside out.He ain't a multi millionaire for being unpopular that's for sure.

And comparing him with Hitler is just an insult to the intelligence.

  • Jeremy Clarkson makes moronic comment and creates numerous headlines and dominates the news cycle.

Well, well, well, who on earth would have thunk it?

  • I was on strike yesterday but I don't take offence at what that overpaid, arrogant, belligerent, right-wing petrolhead twat said. I saw the woman from Unison interviewed and I would be embarrassed if I was a member. I heard that Jezza's comment about train suicides went down like a lead balloon.
  • The man is a mug
  • Wonder what would have happened if he'd said that about bankers.

    Sod all, I'll wager.
No because most people would like the bankers rounded up and shot.
Oh, so it's ok to make comments like that if you agree with the victim, nice.

    What Victim  !  ?
  • I quite like the bloke.
  • If he had made such a comment about bankers or Tory MP's, Unison members would be pissing their pants with laughter. They are only offended as they see Clarkson (who is a close friend of Camerons) as a right wing collaborator, so just another excuse to have a dig or be offended for offendeds sake.

If the likes of Bob Crowe or Billy Bragg had made the joke about Nick Griffin, The EDL, Countryside Alliance etc where would the left be then supporting human rights and being offended?

Now to get this clear, Clarkson has offended a group of people of who went on strike by suggesting they be put against a wall and shot in front of their families.  This group of people includes UK Border Agency staff. Now correct me if I'm wrong but Clarkson has just left the country for Beijing and I suspect when he returns he'll expect a smooth passage through border control.

    What's the chances of that?

    Answers on a postcard please!

    Upstairs for thinking Jeremy!

  • It's a sad commentary on the World today that this utter prat has become rich and famous.
  • Could also say that about the likes of John Terry.
Clarkson is a wind up merchant and should be treated as such.
By the way, any Mexicans on here that found his comments on Top Gear to be so offensive and complained to BBC?
Bring back Mary Whitehouse to save us all !!
  • BBC put him on tv to "entertain" the viewers ... he tries to be funny ... offends some people

    Big deal

Those who did like him .. still like him
    ... those who think he's a knob ... still think he's a knob

Move along please ... nothing to see

  • He's an odious jockey, but how anyone can take offence at a rant that was clearly just done for laughs, is beyond me.

I'm going to demand Kenneth Williams is prosecuted because Carry on Doctor is offensive to doctors that died in Cambodia.

  • In context he said nothing at all of any consequence. The unions are looking very silly. The chap they had on Breakfast just embarrassed himself by whining about Clarkson's salary, largely because having seen the interview in context he clearly realised there was little to complain about.
  • people who watch the one show should be executed never seen so much drivel, gyles brandwith investigating a potato that looks like shakespear, an interesting wall in newcastle and fred wests guide to home diy.. it should only be shown in old peoples home and mental institutions. the reaction is pretty much same as bass eye, i bet hardly any of the 5000 complaints actually watched it let alone listened to the bit to where he said well done to the strikers then said "but this is the bbc and....." said the execution line, ok it probably wasnt the best thing to say at teatime bbc but the priminister having to respond... come on people..
  • Why the hell are people so prescious now days?

I can't even believe this is news. Is there seriously nothing happening around the world as bad as this? Just watched the piece on the News channel and one woman compares his comments to something Gaddafi would say????????????? Wow. She really has her finger on the pulse of current affairs. Gaddafi would probably have said he was right behind the strikers on TV whilst he was actually having them all shot whilst no one was looking. Jesus, lets all calm down and as Dizzle says stop getting precious.
  • To echo the sentiment expressed by many in an eloquent manner...who gives a flying ____ ?

There was a union guy on Breakfast this morning with James Whale, who said Clarksons comments as akin with treatment of detainees in Guantanemo Bay (sic), Whale just laughed at him, its all politically motivated, end of.

What about the MP who said he wish we could go back to the 80's so he could assassinate Thatcher , is that offensive or funny? people take peoples words far to seriously and blow them out of proportion , anyone who has read a Clarkson book will not be surprised by his comments, he's got a new book out so i'm sure he's trying to promote it, and done a good job of it thanks to the unions!

  • Find myself agreeing with Jo Brand:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/hay-festival/8550074/Hay-Festival-2011-Jo-Brand-on-Jeremy-Clarkson.html

How can that old boiler criticise anyone else's public persona? She is a scruffy, vile, foulmouthed, fat bird........and I definately would NOT!

And why would Unison be asking for Clarkson to be sacked? You will probably find that he's paying that little bit extra in taxes that go towards the public sector pensions...............
