Also thought the new boy Russell looked very good first half
Really? I thought he did absolutely nothing except head when he could have kicked, therefore it made sense that he was subbed.
He covered a lot of ground and I think you will find he retained possesion well, he was subbed due to injury but then again compared to some he did have a poor game as most of our lot were beyondd immense
Russell will improve with time and fitness, I expect when he is back to his best he will be chosen over Hughes but I could not ask for a better player to bring off the bench to shore things up! Good honest pro too, no tantrums over losing his place, just waited his time, when it came steps up to the plate and plays a blinder. Well done Andy.
Hughes never stopped warming up during the first half. I think of him as a thoroughly professional player who probably is more aware of his limitations than all of us, and grabs every opportunity to do what he does best, whenever he gets the nod. Proper team player who will remain an unsung hero. Type of player every squad needs. Will never be MOM, will never be Player of the Season, but I sincerely hope he sticks around for a while!
Does his job well, knows he isn't the best CM so instead of doing anything fancy he just passes it simple or just clears the ball, nothing spectacular but very dependable and seems like a proper professional as well. Glad we've got him.
Idiot bloke behind me moaned everytime he touched the ball (and every time Ephraim did as well, mistakenly thinking it was Hughes).
Even when he was breaking up play, or closing down the space the bloke wasn't satisfied. Massively irritating to listen to. Mind you I used to hate Kish, but at least I was young and foolish then rather than old and stupid.
He will always be an unsung hero. I get the feeling that fans will never quite appreciate what he offers to the team. Russell seemed good. I think he can only imprrove with fitness and confidence because he's been short of games at PNE and he's also not liked by Brown.
Can't get over the win!
And yes. As soon as I saw Hughes, I thought Solly had done something. I could have cried (exaggeration).
