He's not really thinking any of that, though, is he. He's thinking, ''good, after a couple of toughies, this is three points in the bag. Sweet.'' I mean its Stevenage. The club has a history dating back to the mid 70's. Come on, CP is thinking - Easy easy easy
FM, it's their cup final so they'd be up for it and who knows where all that adrenalin will end up - if we get an early goal then that should do the job...

It may be their cup final, but they are Stevenage. we are Charlton. They will be spanked. End of. No covering your fears by half suggesting we wont win well. Teach these upstarts a footballing lesson.

I hope they aren't thinking that.
I am absolutely certain CP is thinking this underneath his calm somewhat subdued exterior. If we cant go to Stevenage expecting a win we might as well pack up now. Did Monty go into El Alamain thinking, ''ooh we might lose, lets not suggest we should win, just in case we dont and I look stupid''? Did he heck. Big easy win is all he should be dreaming of tomorrow.
People like to play down expectations so they can either say "i told you so" or be happy to be wrong about something you care about. It's the safe option.
Bit like betting against us. We lose and you win some cash, we win and it doesn't really matter.

Do you really think Powell believes that? If so it is stupid. We are both league one teams, history has nothing to do with it.
Looked back at pre match Brentford, you went for a 4-1 win. Nice.
We should win, but it would be foolish to think that we are guaranteed 3 points. Going into a game expecting an easy win is a very risky thing to do at this level, especially as Stevenage will consider us a scalp. Saying that, I personally am confident that we've got what it takes to win if we play as well as we can.
If it takes luck not to lose to Tranmere at home we have no reason to think we are safe from losing away to Stevenage Borough Council Leisure Recreation and Parks Directorate or whatever their name is.
We ought to be able to beat Stevenage with little difficulty. The trouble is as soon as your players start thinking this, that's exactly when you make life difficult for yourself. They may be a lot smaller club and they may be operating on a smaller budget and with lower expectations, but they will be well prepared and will have a plan to thwart us. Chris Powell has to focus the team on the fact that they'll need to work hard to get the points. I have no doubts that we can win this and win it by a comfortable margin, but that will only happen if we respect Stevenage, remember the fact that they are a professional football team and concentrate fully for 90 minutes.
Only armchair followers of one of the Sky 4 tell you how easily they are going to win before a game takes place. Any sensible fan does his/her crowing after the event...
Its a shame people cant read the thread title or comments that are made before jumping to abusive conclusions. The ''Valley chief'' is the focus, and what was said is that ''he'' will be ''thinking'' this - very different to the team turning up and thinking it.
Still, its good to see how optimism is treated on the forum.
If we win easily will the people who predicted so still be idiots or will the people who predicted a loss be the idiots? What it we lose, will those who predicted it be geniuses?

It is stupid to think we can win this easily.
I stand humbly corrected.
Sorry
No easy games and certainly no-one can go in thinking they are won
Idiot
