Chris Powell's management style is based on Curbs

  • As a true successor to Curbs he mst have signed a) a player we never see and b) a player who we may see once or twice, but is then injured and after a season or 2 retires never to be seen again. I tell you what - he's well on the way!

  • Has anyone heard how he pronounces "perhaps" yet?

If it's "praps", then I think we have our man.

  • "someone from this division is going to win league one, why not us"

When he says this then we'll know : - 0

Just very happy he's doing well as, obviously,  I want my club to do well. But that is with a guy like Chris in charge makes it all the better.

He made mistakes, as he freely admitted, and he'll make a lot more in what will hopefully be a long reign with us but so did Curbs.  But Curbs got a lot lot more right than he got wrong and we can just cross our fingers and wish Powell does the same.

Gaz looking at huddersfield is a great point, by playing like that they have been stuck in this league as long if not longer than us , maybe they should look at us and not just play the keegan way of keep trying to score, I mean keegan won nothing with Newcastle that way

Maybe if Clarke had more to his philosophy they would've gone up by now

And Huddersfield are unbeaten in how many league one games now? 35?

I am just saying if we're winning why change the players/formation and invite more pressure? We won't always get away with it, our Defence may well of played alright at Sheff Utd but still feel it needs Strengthening.

I'd rather keep going and try and score more. If we had a better Defence then I could understand it but we don't. We're not 80's Arsenal. =)

  • There are risks and pitfalls with all formations. Huddersfield's attacking philosophy helped them turn a 2-0 lead in the 85th minute into a 2-2 draw with bottom of the table Orient just a fortnight ago.

  • Yeah you can say that but didn't Huddersfield have a player sent off in that game? McCombe I think.

The great man never said this did he?
    Shurely shome mishtake?
It was, in my hazy memory, ''someone from this division should win the (FA) cup, so why not us?'', about a day before we were knocked out by Grimethorpe Colliery or some such team.

Indeed but I was being liberal with the quote : - )
  • Does he "Set his stall out?"

Does his brother manage a legendary Rock Band?

Is he unable to pronounce "Pardew"

    The man's an imposter.......

  • Curbs on sky looking as lovely as ever discussing the beautiful game

35 game unbeaten streak and still not top over the 2 seasons, gung ho football will get you so far but the 1 nil and 2 -1 tight defence in the last 10 mins will get you promoted

the 4-4 and the 3-3 's will get you in the playoffs but then its a gamble

I thought you hated that (my) lot?
  • @nth london addick

Maybe I should have mentioned Brighton instead then? or Peterborough?

I just feel if he keeps going defensive when we're winning in last 15 minutes it will cost us soon enough, If we were playing Huddersfield on Saturday would have probably ended 2-2.

Sheff Utd had enough chances to get back In it in the last 10 minutes, why put the team under pressure? Negative tactics In my opinion but we're still unbeaten.

This would be more interesting if we had lost.
    But we didnt

I'm so lucky in that I have a younger model to shuffle over - Mr Chris Powell.
  • I wouldn't mind but we haven't got the defence to play like that.

Er, no.  What I hate is lazy stupid right wingers (not you) branding anyone who disagrees with them a "middle class white liberal" as if that makes it OK to be ignorant.

No team has let in less than us. (Although I'm not disagreeing with you).

    I resemble that remark.

  • Is he unable to pronounce "Pardew"

If he's 'proper' Charlton he won't let the word pass his lips, let alone pronounce it correctly!

Was in the car on Saturday listening to 5 Live and he came on after we'd beaten Sheffield Utd and even my Mrs said that sounds just like Alan Curbishley. Made me laugh because he is SO Curbesque. We are top of the league by 5 points, just won away from home and he makes it sound like someone just died.
  • If he spends the rest of his days at Charlton doing a sterling imitation of Curbs and getting similar results that's fine by me.
  • Curbs made some great signings for us -Chrissy was one of them. Chrissy is his own man and a strong man but also a nice man. But You can see that despite this, he is able to be ruthless but because he is likeable and genuinely cares about the players that he brings them all along with him (possibly better than Curbs did). Curbs may be had less patience with some who didn't toe the line. Chrissy has a genuine affinity with the fans - apart from the history and the obvious tunnel jumps, he mentions how pleased he is for us every time we win. We love him too, we wanted this to work, not just for our team but for our legend too.

Of course it is still early days but it is going to be fun seeing where Chrissy takes us. Curbs is a legend and really ought to have a stand named after him sooner rather than later, that leaves another stand for us to reserve for Chrissy's name when he achieves what we now know he can and we still have one spare for the future.
  • Matches up to an away team and a half baked team lose without much of a fight.

    Yep, he's the new curbs alright : - )

Bizarrely my wife said exactly the same! Are you me?
And I've been saying it all season!
