Pat on the back time......

edited October 2011 in General Charlton
Amazing start to the season, everyone at the club deserves praise - Powell especially for his consistent team selection, a settled team is often the bedrock of success. Well done to the board as well for not panicking in the light of last season's dissapointing end, i'm sure it was never on their mind - but when the going was tough, they stood by their rookie manager & then gave him the funds which he has spent well.

OF COURSE a long, long way to go, nothing should be taken for granted whatsoever and the challenges ahead are daunting - but nice just to take a little time to bask in the warm light of a stupendously good start to the season.

  • Big pat from me too! COYR !!!
  • Erm ..... a bit worried the FA will poach Powell to be next England manager.

Meanwhile, I'm in 7th heaven. It's not even raining.

it is here Oggy - probably turn to snow tonight - but nothing can take away from this start :)
  • well done chrissy!
  • SCP is one of lifes achievers. He has worked non-stop since his appointment to achieve what we are experiencing now. Some people questioned him being called SCP by fans when we went through our bad patch after the first 4 wins, but he was SCP to me before, and he always will be

  • Would say the fans deserve some credit too, followed the boys in numbers this season and been very loud especially today

sheffield forums giving our support respect
  • As Numbers said he will always be SCP to me ..... I mean wanky Charlton having an England international, it's boyhood dream stuff and he made it happen
    Will it ever happen again
But for now it's good times for us (even if it is in this tinpot league)
I'm already looking forward to the chumpionship next year and a crack at promotion to the premiership
Onwards and upwards , the journey is just beginning

And let's be honest when a realist like me is bullish it means something
  • It's good signs Ooh Aah we have a brilliant start here, indeed onwards and upwards. Have been looking forward to your realist view for a while dude, and no %%% happy days.

  • Its less than a year since we were thrashed by Brighton. I listened to that game on the Brighton commentary because of bloody Emma. At the end the commentator was drumming up callers for the phone in by asking "Brighton fans - how good does it feel?". I remember feeling sick and jealous, and wondering if the good times would ever return

    And now....
  • Just got back from Sheffield ,Oh my days, what a win and performance from the lads, well worth the long trip, I was up at 6:20 for this one, determined to beat the M1 , why is it such a mare on Saturdays?

I thought I was going to miss the game as my lad got hit in the face by a ball in the warm up before the match by a wayward shot from Kermit, took the edge off the match a bit, but the Sheffield medical team were top notch, we got moved down the front , and although the angle wasn't great, it does make you appreciate the effort the players put in as well as their technical ability.

Well done Charlton, great team effort, you dug in when you needed too, were proud of you, as the song goes.

    MIA,

I read on twitter from Airman Brown that Kermit was looking for who got hit by the ball to give his shirt to but he couldn't find them!

Sorry to hear that. But make him feel better by telling  him he played a vital part in the
victory by helping Kermit find his range for later, when it really
    mattered!
  • MIA,

I read on twitter from Airman Brown that Kermit was looking for who got hit by the ball to give his shirt to but he couldn't find them!
Clearly went down to the away end and was trying to find someone but couldn't. The indication of wanting to give the shirt to that person was also made.
  • Kermit was defo looking to hand his shirt over. Couldnt find whoever he wanted to give it to.

I'm sure the good airman could sort this for you.
  • Cheers Guys the only problem was that we got relocated to different seats so we weren't there at the end of the game, we met Yann after the match and managed to get a picture taken with him and Waggy, Yann actually went to get his shirt from the dressing room but the kit had been packed away, Waggy said to ask next time we came to the Valley, it's nice to know we have a team with nice characters on and off the pitch as my son was gutted he had blood on his shirt and jeans, The medical team said if my son had put his hand up to stop the ball he would have broken his wrist.

I'm just pleased his ear was ok in the end as he has a prosthetic ear , made from his rib , and I didn't fancy more trips to Great Ormond Street.

Hopefully we'll be able to get Kermos shirt at the next home game.
  • Your son has an ear made from his rib? Wow. More details needed.

So was Kermo very apologetic. Bet he felt awful if he saw the blood.

Despite getting walloped in the face from Kermit's strike, what a heartwarming story for your lad, Mendonca.

Great to hear that our players care.
And now your lad has a great story to tell his mates at school on Monday!

Something his plastic Chel$ki or Manure on TV mates can only dream of!
  • This Kermit guy sounds like a good guy to actively seek out the kid he hit....can't imagine many prem players doing that. Hope it didn't spoil his day....what a great story for him though

    That's exactly what I thought - "wow!"

Sure Airman will be able to sort this or something similar out and the pain gone, your son will have a shirt and what will ultimately be a good memory and probably a story he will tell for years to come.

And thank him from all of us for inspiring Kermit to get that important goal.
  • Airman has already put message out on twitter asking who it was and mia has made contact.

  • Well done Kermit. I thought he was trying point out a home fan above us when we scored our second a number of things come down on the players.

  • Kermit even risked the wrath of CP by trying to find the lad after the game instead of listening to the post match talk.
  • Kermit seems to be a top man on and off the pitch
  • Agree with Oakster. Early days but what a result and what a team.

Tempting fate but IF IF IF we go up this will be the result we'll look back to and say "knew we'd do it ever since we won at Bramell Lane"

As for MIA is there nothing that man won't do to get a shirt! : - )
Hope the lad is well and see you soon. Well done Yann and Waggy.

Thanks for all your messages , my sons ok ,pleased he managed to watch the win , rather than being carted off to hospital , even made it on the tele for the 1st goal on the football league show, as we were in the front row , when Dale took the corner , must confess it does highlight the need  for HD Tv in our household ;-0  , a message for the missus if your reading as i've got a birthday coming up!

Curb it you were asking about the rib and the ear thing , he was born with something called microtia , where my son was born with the ear lobe but no ear on one side , at 10 years old at Great Ormond Street they opened up his chest , took one of his ribs out and used it as the framework for an ear several skin grafts and scares later the surgeon had made an ear , he can't hear out of it unfortunately and is deaf on one side , so he wouldn't have heard people shouting at him that a ball was coming at him.It was his choice for him to have the operation as he just wanted to have an ear and be like other kids ( i didn't want to put it him through it) hence i was scared when his new ear came up black and swollen yesterday , as i thought he might have to go back to Great Ormond Street.

I've just remembered that i'm at the hospital on Weds having eye drops which means i won't be able to drive to the Brentford Match on Weds night , and the dentist afterwards , so i'll prob watch it on the tele , but my son is wondering if i could email the club , as he's really keen to get Kermo's shirt! as i mentioned earlier Waggy said to ask at the next home game , but as i won't be there , just wondered if anyone had a contact email address.

    Thanks very much

I was standing in the row in front of you when the ball came whistling past. Glad to hear your boy is ok.
