  • 4 5 1 at home? Injuries or tactics to stiffle a good passing side. Either way it worked. MK ran the game, passed it well and closed us down.

Despite that create few clear cut chances. Lots of long rang shots and a pen.

2nd half same till. Holls, Dale and Waggy all well off their best. Solly silly tackle for pen.

On 60. They take off their most effective winger. Suddenly Solly has room and we look dangerous. Hayes has our first real shot very well saved and we get out first corner!

Green does one great turn and cross. Goal.

Both sides then had enough chances for 4 - 4 but I'm happy with a point v a very good side for this level.

    Motm Wiggins

Thanks Reading Addick for the box tickets.

Yes, we broke MK dominance to a degree and won the second half playing with the same formation but with more adventure - we are less than half the team when we try to contain sides rather than impose ourselves on them.
  • Going behind, away from home, with our worst half of the season yet remaining unbeaten is a good night. I'm pretty happy with this result, once again we've shown great spirit which we'll need in the latter stages of the campaign.

We're still top, Kerma's got his first goal, Green's back and looks good. Lot of positives to take from last night. We had a 100% away record before last night, it couldn't last forever. We're still unbeaten and on track, I'm happy. Well done lads!

  • Haven't read thread but here's my take. Bloody delighted with a point that we just (and i mean just) merited. First half was atrocious. Dons centre midfielders had too much time on the ball, and when we had possession they closed us down quickly which led to the ball always ending up with S-Dog who had 2 men on him like a shot. Silly penalty to give away but we were lucky to only come in 1 down.

Start of the second half, same as the first. Thought that the subs were needed ten minutes in as nothing had changed. But I thought a key moment was Robinson taking off Balanta and Morrison. Solly suddenly had room on the right to come forward and we began to have more time with the ball in the middle. Introduction of Green and Kermy changed it. Kermy's first two touches were a perfect chest down to BWP which led to a cross being headed just wide by the big man.

And then what a cross!!! Wagstaff was in a similar position ten minutes earlier and floated one to the keeper. Green looked up and put it on a plate, great goal and really thought we were going to steal all three points. But delighted to have got out of there with something and roll on Saturday.

Green starts for me at the weekend. Kermy to remain an impact sub. Hopefully Hollands gets some sleep this week because he had a shocker! Wiggins MOTM for me - got forward well again and looked good at the back, getting better every game.

  • crossing was particularly impressive in the second half. green, jackson, kermorgant, wiggins and even morrison put in really decent crosses
  • morrisons cross yep forgot about that , i don't know how bwp didn't get on the end of that
  • saw choice and his elder brother nicholas looking rather angry when they moved from the front of the stand to the back around kick off time
didnt think it was appropriate to make a comment to nicholas cos he looked properly moody (for an old fella) maybe he'd looked down and just realised he'd put a pair of rupert  the bears strides on
    what happened gents ?

You should have said Hello, We went and stood down the front out the way as there was no where to stand at the back because all the golden oldies decide it would be best to sit at the back. Steward just moaned at us to go stand at the back, Dont think we had the hump just nakerd for running about a mile full to the brim on alcholic beverages. It' at s still annoying why fans cant sit a few rows forward to let the fans who want to stand at the back do so.
  • Well pleased with a draw after reading the reports. Also pleased for my middle lad Danny Green, no really, who was at his first 'away', also pleased for his namesake with the assist.

Only Henry seems to have commented that MK at home played 5 in midfield ........evidently to crowd the centre of the park and to put a spanner in the works of our passing game?

That seems to have had the effect of pushing us back deeper, which we all know (except apparently Chris Powell......!) isolates the midfield from our front line and our defenders resort to the longball - midfield then get completely bypassed and hands the initiative to opponents.

  • awful first half, summed up by Waggy dribbling the ball out of play when unchallenged, got better in the second, both subs making an impact and staking a claim...really like the look of Kermit.

    MOM probably the keeper

Traffic was murder on the way home

  • Cheers for the feedback from all those there.

When you get the chance, please add your player scores, ta

  • yeah the stewards were on one with the sitting /standing etc

plenty of room in that end for everyone to be accomodated however they wished to watch the game

next time i'll say hello if you don't look so scary !!
  • The tactic may appeal to Sheff Utd so we need to work out how to counter it - too much of a gap between the defenders and midfielders and we get overrun.
  • Overall must count ourselves fortunate as there was little doubt who were the better side on the night. Having said that take a real positive out of the character shown by our side. In the last 15 minutes we were the more likely to win it
  • There's an old adage that you can only play as well as the opposition let you. MKD were the best opposition I've seen this season and played some good possession football. We didn't play in the first half couldn't get to grips with their formation and several of our players were below par. We seemed to press higher up the pitch second half which was better especially after the substitutions. All in all a good comeback for a valuable point which keeps the same distance between us and one of the chasing pack. I would settle for the same result on Saturday against Sheff Utd right now. COYR
  • Traffic getting home was a nightmare, having to que for over half hour to get on the dartford bridge was an absolute joke, as was all the lane closures on M1/M25. And the amount of roundabouts in MK with litterally no signs on or off them, pointless pointless town, just a mass of stupidly large warehouses.

Anyways back to the ground - seats were comfy and at last a ground with leg room (us 6+footers get screwed at crowds around the country) but a very hollow souless ground. And not a chance there were 8k ppl in that crowd, closer to a 4k. did they just 'give away' about 4k season tickets to pl who simply do not show and never will?? Burger was good though, probably one of the best I've had in a football ground.

First half we were very poor, infact the worst I've seen us this season/pre season. Midfield were chasing shadows and no1 could find a red shirt - we just ddin't look very sharp/fit and couldn't get into the game. Pen - first instance I was horrified but in fainress was a stone wall pen and everyone around me also agreed, very clumsy challenge.

Second half we looked alot better but again still not great, other than a couple of 5 min spells where I'm not quite sure how we didn't score in either of them. Green and Kermit made a difference, suddenly we had a winger who wasn't running into dead ends and actually taking on the LB as was proved with a perfect delivery for Kermits goal. Was really annoyed with Green before this as he bottled a 50/50 where we had men in the box and were looking in control. But the second that cross was headed in though he looked a completly different player full of confidence, control and a real threat.

Overall would have taken a point before th game and personally had this one down a score draw, still think if we'd turned up in the first half or just put away some of the numerous chances we created second half we would and should really have won that game.

As long as we beat them at home then you can't complain with a point away.

Oh good support from us as well, we litterally sucked the ball into the net and think our crowd really urged on our players to try to win the game - other than th twat in the purple, who was being escorted out of the game by police and stewards as I left.

  • MKD were the best team we've played this season by a long chalk. They outnumbered us in midfield & closed us down superbly.

Hollands & Waggy had their worst games of the season (they have set high standards) & Stephens was only average.

I thought we played decent in the 1st half, but MKD were better & deserved to be 1 up.

I thought they would be unable to keep up their work rate for 90 mins and so it proved.

The game swung in our favour after 60 mins due to 3 factors.

1 Bellanta (sp) their left winger & best player was subbed shortly after( I think) Waggy had bundled him off the pitch.  Clinton Morrison also subbed.

2 Green & Kermit came on for Waggy & Hayes.

    3. MKD ran out of steam & we started to get more space.

The game could have ended up 5-5. Hamer made some good saves, had many shots straight at him & a few went wide.

Jackson & Kermit missed decent headed chances & BWP had a header cleared, as well as other chances we missed.

BWP injured his knee after a block tackle on about 70 mins. He was subbed 3 mins from time when we were looking for the winner, which seemed strange, unless the knee was troubling him.

We fought back well for a deserved point against a team who will be top 6 if they produce that form week in week out.

  • Just read on one of their forums that one guy rated their crowd an 8, saying it was the best atmosphere this season! I'd hate to hear their normal atmosphere if that was their best. At the times in between our songs you could have heard a pin drop.

Having said that I still can't quite work out who actually supports them so its no surprise.

They gave us a 7 saying it was the best away support they'd seen and heard this year.

  • I think I heard their crowd like twice, when they scored and they sung like one song? Absolutely pathetic home atmosphere in my opinion

  • On their web site John Gorman said their fans were very good last night and were spured on fantastic charlton support ( or something like that).

    Earlier in this thread Kap 10 said;

'Kermit goal was slightly lucky as it came of the post and went in off the keeper'

I wasn't sure at the time but SSN and this clip confirms for me that it certainly was not lucky as the keeper never touched it.

Two well matched sides on the night, for the first 60 mins MKD won the tactical battle, stuck to their game plan and scored once. After the hour Carl Robinson made the change that enabled Charlton to win the tactical battle for the final 30 mins and score an equaliser. Taking Balanta off enabled Powell to make the change on the right and a few minutes later put on the player most likely to get his head on the crosses that were to follow. Two great opportunities later, one headed just wide the second in off post and we've nicked a point, that for an hour looked unlikely. Could have stolen all three, but taking one was harsh enough on MK. Easy to say players had bad games, but for me it was more a case of MKD having the tactical savvy to win and retain possesion better by flooding the middle of the park, pushing on with wing backs and using a wiley old front man who new how and when to hold/flick on/back in etc and create chances in and around the box. Robinsons substitutions helped us more than it did them, Powell made sustitutions that took advantage of them and we finally had some areas to play in, we did what we know we can do and started to create good opportunities towards the later part of the game. A point gained !
  • Great video, cheers for sharing.
  • I agree that on TV the keeper never touched it.

However, I was sitting right behind and I thought it hit the post, then hit the goalie and went in. It went so quick though it's difficult to be sure.

Hope they give it to Kermit though.

  • Well if they don't give it to their keeper, or Kermit ...... then it will just have to be credited to Post

Claims a lot of assists, you know.
  • Do people there think fatigue has started to come into play? With very few changes all season, is this XI being relied on too much?
