I was going to suggest something similar to PA...may I add a couple of questions...
How did he feel if and when the crowd got on his back? Did it encourage him to up his game and prove them wrong, or did he become afraid to make mistakes?
Well I’m not even a CAFC fan, I’m Col U. My mate who got me onto this site always used to say “What has Curbishley got against Brownie?” He said it so much when you was Prem that it used to make us laugh. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I love football and I know of Brownie, remember the big deal when he got sent off with a broken leg etc….
Did Curbs have a grievance against him?
Question: I was also convinced that Curbs had a grievance with him. On numerous occasions Brownie would turn in MOM performances, only to be dropped the very next game in favour of Carl Tiler. How did Steve feel about this and does he know the reason why?
It used to annoy me that however well SB played (and there were many great performances) he never seemed to be far from getting dropped. There was one game when SB was subbed after putting in another cracking showing and the crowd booed the decision, curbs turned and shouted 'he's injured' or was it 'praps he's injured' I can't recall, but anyway I couldn't see much wrong with him and it showed what the crowd thought of SB.
As a change from talking about booing, did he enjoy hearing 'Oh Stevie Brown..........' ringing out. I think it was one of the few songs that most people joined in with, not just the N Upper.
Also, a while ago my son gave me for a birthday present the framed Inter away shirt worn by Steve in the re-play against Dagenham & Redbridge, signed by the man himself. Did the team have any serious thoughts themselves about the proposed 'Italian connection' or was it treated as as a small diversion from the serious business of the Prem? (And would it be alright to flog the shirt on e-bay if I get a bit skint?)
Did he ever let us down?
Three questions for Brownie:
1. Who was your favorite keeper to play in front of and why?
Bolder, Salmon, Vaughan, Deano, Royce, Amman, Petterson or Ilic?
2. When Ilic was in goal during the 98/99 the Premier League season his form dipped massively but Curbs took ages to drop him when he had made so many errors. Does it have a massive affect on your game when you have a nervous/low on confidence keeper behind you?
3. Were you nervous when you walked up to take the penalty at Wembley in the shoot-out and were you confident you'd score?
Thanks!
I think, from memory, that Chapple cost 100,000 from Cambridge United.
He used to live near to an old mates of my dad in Brighton. As a young kid I sent him a battered autograph book for him to fill up. Apparantly he lost it but to make up for it, he sent me a signed team photo and a signed football. They both still adorn my wall and the older i've got, the more treasured those two things are.
Can you just tell him that I definately owe him a pint (or twelve); the man is a hero.
