Year after with a couple of tweaks, squeeze play-offs from a hard-fought season and everyone is singing Powell's praise. What happens in the play-offs will be whatever team performs the best.
2011/12 - finish 3rd, lose in playoff final to Scunthorpe
2012/13 - finish runners up to PNE, promoted
2013/14 - finish 14th, had a great start to the season, faded in jan/feb
2014/15 - finish 7th, missing out only on goal difference, people call for another goalscorer
2015/16 - finish 16th due to a couple of long term injuries and the loss of Jordan Cousins and Diego Poyet to the English Super Premier League
2016/17 - finish 4th, lose playoff semi final to Wigan
2017/18 - finish 4th again, lose playoff final to West Brom, causing fans to start talking about a 'Wembley Curse'
2018/19 - Win the league, causing Slater to sell the club to a wealthy local businessman, who decides to controversially sell our star striker, only to see him break his leg on his debut for London Arsenal FC, after they spent £65million on him
If this comes true, I would like a million pounds from everyone on CL please
A lot will depend on how this team develops - it is a young side that I am sure has much more to give. How much more will determine what it achieves and I think it should be interesting finding out.
The new Charlton board have not put a foot wrong so far and I am encouraged by their on field investment and behind the scenes changes but it's early days. Taking us back to the promised land will be a long haul with many a slip up and I just hope that Slater and JIminez are prepared for those seasons where it just doesn't happen. Just my opinion of course but I think those two want the premier league in five years and hope they don't lose interest when or if that status is not achieved. I think we would be lucky to achieve that to be honest and just hope we get there at some point not too long after.
For me the best years were those spent in the Championship between returning to the Valley and the second promotion as champions. The premiership itself was predominantly an odd combination of boredom and alienation (a lot of the football, the many weekends without a game, the whole money thing) and tension (fear of relegation, the number of close-fought wins). However the Championship years had to culminate in the play-off and double promotion to make them such a good time. So onwards and upwards is the only way I guess.
As for the original question, history shows that since the play-offs, anyone in the Championship is in with a shout at promotion. So there's a 1 in 8 chance of promotion, but also a 1 in 8 chance of relegation. There's also big club little club weighting and the random chance of a rich owner taking control to change the odds. I'd need to go back to my probability text books to crunch through all that, but meanwhile I'm going for ten to twenty years.
I have no idea how people find the champ more entertaining than the premier league. Like saying a fiesta is better than a bentley, bizarre.
I think your car analogy is not right - the difference in quality between the Champ and the Prem is not as wide as the gap between a Fiesta and a Bentley. Let's compare it to the difference between a Porsche and a Bentley. The Porsche may not be as refined as the Bentley, or as expensive to buy, but it's a lot more fun to drive.

Agree on the choice of cars. Apart from our games i only watch prem games as i find the champ quite boring. Each to their own i guess.

Depends how big your garage is, whether you can afford the fuel and running costs and if you want people to think you are a flash git who's just come into some money.
I see Tony Pulis has been fined £10k for remarks about the ref.
Reminds me of when we played at Stamford Beach and the Ruskies were fined 50p, or when we appealed a red card and had the ban increased for being "frivolous", or a the red card for an accidental collision with the ref (Luke Young ?).
I know we want to get back to the Prem - but I don't miss being picked-on for being "little" and Stoke are finding this out too, now that the big clubs feel they have outstayed their welcome.
I think we will level out as a yo yo club (if that makes sense) and spend the next decade bouncing between the champ and the prem. The beauty and romance of Charlton however is thgat due to our history and our vast catchment area (kent is ours), there is always the chance we could become and sustain something major but we'd need a sugar daddy to get us there first. There are some clubs who know this could just never happen.
I'd be happy with the championship for a while. I don't see the premiership as the cash cow it appears. A lot of clubs are spending way beyond their means just to survive. The reality is the increased revenue goes on transfer fees and wages. As for being a sellling club - that will be the case regardless of the division.
Quite happy with the Championship and brief flirtations with the Premiership would be nice.
If getting into the Premiership meant that we'd fall as hard as we did when we were relegated a few years ago then I'd rather not be there in the first place. I hate being in this league now and never, ever want to be back here.
If we get there quick and fall -- id still take it, look at all the teams who have never got there and whose fans have never seen the top players----sometimes we forget how lucky we have been to have had those times.

I think Off-it took the bet but who laid it? Was it OohAah?
After that I'll be too old and doolally to care (no one say "you are already Henry")
