We wear red because Arsenal gave us a set of their old kits when we were a youth's team.
Not according to Eddie Marshall, one of the boys who founded the club in 1905 and who was the club's original centre half: "Our shirts were made of red flannelette. We bought some yards of the material cheaply at the drapery store that used to stand at the corner of Hare Street, Woolwich".
This was taken from an interview by Harold Deacon that appeared in the 1955 Jubilee Handbook. If I get the time I'll copy the rest of it elsewhere on CL.
As for Arsenal, they got their red kits from Nottingham Forest.
