Brighton O Meter

I know teams and players change from Season to Season , but i thought it might be interesting to track our progress this season , alongside last seasons Champions of this division Brighton , might help us keep our nerve if things get a little bumpy shall we say along the way.

Dang having trouble attaching a document! not tried this before on here.

  • Gordon Bennett. What are we, about 4% of the way into the season?

Bring your Brighton O Meter out if we're ten points clear in April.
  • Leroy , i'm trying to steady the ship when we get 1 or 2 bumpy waves shall we say , i've not attached a document on here before , have uploaded it 100% but then what?
  • Your post smacks of arrogance though. We could easily finish in the lower spaces of the play offs or below. Like Leory says bring this out if we are still doing well in a couple of months.
  • Can we have a Norwich O meter as well ;)
  • Until i get this going ,

    Charlton

    P : 5     W : 4      D : 1    L : 0    Pts : 13
    F :  11      A :  4

    Brighton

    P : 5     W : 3      D : 1    L : 1    Pts : 10
    F :  8      A : 5

Not at all i'm trying to 'compare the market' with where we WANT to be , not doing it as some sort of bragging exercise , it might help us keep some perspective , if we have a defeat or draw , against a team where we expect a different result, rather than the extreme emotions we get on here after a good / bad result , there's no grey in Football, and sometimes i'd like to gauge us against a team that has been successful in this division recently.

I'm sure there are better people on here that could put this idea better together than me , in terms of how it looks / showing whether the games were at home or away , as from the above info it doesn't show you who Charlton or Brighton have played , or whether they played home or away , if people are interested in the idea , and want to do something better i'd be more than delighted for them to come up with something, i'm just interested as the season goes on to see how our progress measures against other success , as someone mentioned 'what about Norwich' i thought about it , and thought to do it every match for more than 1 team is a lot of time and effort for me to keep up, as i say if others have the time energy and sustained enthusiasm & want to do something better / slightly different i really don't mind, in fact i'd be delighted!
  • good idea mendonca , i'd be interested to know when i should panic or not
  • I have already committed to include in STATBANK a comparison, every 5 games, of our progress compared with the previous 2 seasons in League One.

I am willing to include a comparison with Brighton & Southampton last season's progress with ours after 12 games and then every 5 games thereafter - that way it wouldn't clash with the other comparison and therefore not increase the work required.

I'll do this if people want it - over to you.
  • We are a completely different team to Brighton, basically if you want promotion you normally work on the 2 points per game average over the season

Maybe, Evil ...... but Iike Mendonca, I'm curious to see the comparisons.
If I remember from last season, even Brighton had a a couple of runs of poor form, and a dreadful one in mid-season.

Sure, we've all got 'One Aim' for this season - but this exercise isn't about arrogance, just a measure of our progress.

I think it's a good idea as a benchmark - we'll soon give up on it if we are ten points adrift, but as Mendonca suggests, it could be useful to keep our One Aim in sight and not panic if things get a  bit bumpy...
  • Hi Lancashire Lad, I didn't mean to tread on your toes, sorry if I've caused any offence, I do read the statbank, and thanks for doing it, some of the stats in there shock me, good or bad, please don't stop the stat bank, it is an invaluable wealth of information, just thought a Brighton o meter was a bit of fun, and as people have said might make people think Lifes not so bad after all if we have a wobbly result.

Yep, that's how I do it. I figure we are 3 points ahead of the game at the moment.

can't believe how arrogant you are mendonca! you're a disgrace! how you can turn something so important into a bit of fun is beyond me!

this is a serious forum....no room for fun and games!!!

can anyone arrange for mendonca to be banned from CL??

    Cretin!!!
  • So how far up the brighton O meter do I go if i have a hankie hanging out my back pocket?

That is what this thread's about, right?

No offence taken whatsoever, I was just making a suggestion as to how I could incorporate your idea, let's see how it goes over the next month and I have no intention of stopping the stat bank.
  • it was pretty obvious after 12 or so games in the last two seasons that leeds and norwich and then soton and brighton were gonna be more than likely the teams to win automatic promotion
as it stands now id say us and the two sheffields  will be providing the 2 automatic spots ..... early days yet but after 12 games i'll be able to give a definite answer and we can all chill ;-)

i like the idea of comparing with brighton ...
compare our away support and home support too :-)
  • Suggest we start off with a Walsall-o-meter, work up to a Hartlepool-o-meter, with the potential to bring the Brighton-o-meter in with 10 games to go.
  • I like this Brighton O Meter GREAT IDEA.

  • Last season we thought we were a decent side with play-off prospects.
They destroyed us 4-0 at home.

When I see a similar away performance by us this season - that's all the Brighton O Meter comparison I need.

What, like when we beat Peterborough 5-1 last season? That was sixteen games in and we were sat in second behind Brighton.
  • Need to change the name. Could be a variation of gaydar
  • Great idea, cant see how people can moan about it seriously??

Maybe it will be better with the teams we have played eg. how they did vs bournemouth at home or colchester away, that would give us a better indication no?

Just a thought i will be looking at this thread

I'm straight as a dye mate , ain't got a clue what your on about.
  • Sorry Clem don't look right?
  • good idea ... go for it
  • I think you're not clique enough for ideas like this.

I must admit - rather than compare points around games played, I compare with the oppostion based on their finishing positions last year. So Preston are Brighton, Sheff Utd are Saints, Scunthorpe are Posh, Chesterfiled are D&R, Bury are Bristol Rovers, Wycombe are Plymouth and Stevenage are Swindon. Using this method, We are so far 5 points up on last season which isn't bad in 5 games - Bournemouth 0, Notts County +3, Colchester +2, Scunthorpe -2, Bury +2. We need to beat Sheff Weds so as not to lose ground on this figure as we beat them at the Valley last term.

Now we finished on 59 points last season - We would have needed 72 to finish in the play- offs and 88 to finish above the third place tean - so give or take a few points we need to improve by @ 13 points for a play off place and @29 for an automatic place. To do a Brighton we will need to gain 36 extra points. 5 points over is a good start but still a long way to go.

  • I think you're not clique enough for ideas like this.
Ah yes, the most exclusive club in the world, the CL Clique. I'd actually be quite interested in a Brighton O Meter, for the sake of comparison of course. What about one of the play-off teams last season as well? That's the kind of form I expect the season overall to take.
  • I meant we need to beat Sheff Wed -wont let me edit - but sure you get the gist.
