  • great news
  • Pleased with this - good back-up for Taylor and Morro, and likey to be needed at some point in run-in.
  • At least that puts the Doherty on the bench nightmare to bed!!
  • Great news
  • Good good, few times now we've got clubs to release players so we can sign them.
  • Good, decent experience and back to his roots.
  • Is he tall enough?
  • Hmm, not so sure. Whilst he hasn't done anything drastically wrong he just seems too immobile to me and like others have said I hope he doesn't become a weight around our necks IF we get promotion

  • I am not impressed by this signing. The few times I have seen him play for us did not give me confidence. He certainly is not confident with the ball at his feet, so when he plays, then more hoofing it out of defence and less controled passing it out of defence.
Also his headers do not go that far so leaving the defence in trouble more often than mot.
  • Wouldn't worry too much about next season yet it's this one that matters. Unlikely to find much better out there as backup on a free.
  • Cort is a good signing in this league, he is also proven champ quality.
  • We are in league 1 and hopefully heading to Championship. He is clearly capable of being a decent stopper, and a very solid one at that. So he can't distribute the ball particularly well - who cares at this level. If he keeps his man quiet, and weighs in with the odd goal, I'll take that. Good signing for me and welcome him as a perm signing.
  • Great signing. I am impressed with this one. He's a no nonsense defender. Risks vital brain cells for the team. Vs Brentford he jumped in front of two very powerful shots which were goal bound.

So are you are happy with Doherty as the backup then ?

Personally, Cort gives me a lot more confidence and if he gets a run in the team I'm sure some of the areas you mention would improve.

Very happy that he has signed.
  • Great business.

He's better than Carl, he's better than Carl...
  • Must remember that we are in the 3rd tier of English football. Agree with Talal about probably not being able to find much better about for free at this moment of time. We'll worry about whether he is still able to cut it at a higher level once we get promotion. COYR
  • I'm pleased with this signing too. He has looked good and has played a number of games in the division above. I can't help thinking that he was on a lot of money at Burnley due to when he was signed, and he is the wrong side of 30 and they are building for the future when he will be past it. I think if we assume that our aim is to get promoted and establish ourselves in the Championship we are unlikely to get a much better deal than someone like Leon on a free.

He is also, obviously, willing to sit on the bench in the third division. Just how good a player can we hope to sign to be willing to do that?

  • Nothing exciting, yes he's uncomfortable on the ball, but he will do a job at this level. If he doesn't play well I'm sure we'd bring in a new centre back in the summer and make him 4th choice.
  • Pleased with this. he already knows the club is settled. Doc is out of contract end the season so another CB is not need now until the summer. If we go a betetr stadard player comes in and they all fight it out for the 2 starting places.
  • Good back up signing I think for the run in. Good experience and will put his body on the line for the team. That's what CP wants.
  • In the 2 games he has played in the league - only 1 fluky goal conceded against Stevenage
  • A player is not going to agree to the termination of an 18 month contract unless he knows he has a firm alternative option - in this case that must be us. However, I suppose that doesn't stop him looking around too, but my bet is that he will sign for us, and it will be an 18 month deal as that is what he had. I'd be happy with that outcome.
That's what I think. We've already engineered this type of things a few times in the last year or so. I can't recall them all, but pretty sure we did this for Paul Hayes & Kyel Reid. We get their clubs to cancel the contract (to get them off the wage bill), the player agrees, as he signs a new one with us. Everyone's happy.
    Told you so :-)

"I have family and friends around me and Charlton is a massive club ....."

Tell that to the Wendies .......hehe
  • Good back up, good for this league, happy!
  • I think sometimes people forget that you are not going to sign Rio Ferdinand as back up. How can anybody not see this as a positive is beyond me!

I don't think Rio is good enough for our team Muttley :-0
  • Very surprised that he is prepared to come and sit on the bench.
