My reading of that response is that it is indeed true and Alonso will be spending Xmas in Spain. Fortunately our midfield (well Hollands at least) is fit and playing well.

I would still hope he may come good as Powell said we should not be caught short over Xmas. He has played over 100 games in La Liga.
He could play against Carlisle if he does not and there are no injuries then I agree the most likely outcome is a return to Spain
