Charlton vs. Reading | League Cup | Teams, Views and Predictions

  • Looking forward to tonight. Expect lots of goals from both teams and not the same tension as a League game.

Would like to see BWP on the bench just to worry them.

Grumpy family will be in the West Lower stand en masse. The posh seats will be a nice change too.

Hope its the first Charlton match my young nephew doesn't fall asleep in.
  • Only because we'll be LOLing our way out of this league.
Nice save... Yes. 3-2 us. Both their goals from ruddy set pieces. Jacko, BWP and Hayes.
  • I looking forward to seeing te reserves and expect us to lose narrowly - I'm going tonight because I'd like to see how a few players are stacking up e.g. Mambo, Bover, Alonso, Pritchard (wil they be ready if we need to call on them - Powell won't have many better opportunities to assess). I'd like to see Francis for the same reason (I know i'm in a very small minority here but I think he would fit in to our current team very well and to risk ridicule - I like the height he gives us at the back). We looked a bit tired in the middle as the game went on on Saturday so think Stephens and Hollands could do with a rest.

Will be an excellent opportunity for Green to have a full game as well as Benno and Euell. As I don't really care how we do, it would be far mor einteresting to see this than the first team battle through possibly extra time and not be 100% right for Saturday.
  • Reading will be one ofthe top chumps league sides. No matter what team they put out this will be difficult for us. Signing 16 new players and no reserve team CP has to get a good few of the guys who havnt featured much through this. I cant see how there will not be goals but think they will be to good for us.

    2  v  4
  • 1-2 reading
  • I expect fairly wholesale changes, Francis, Green, Benson, Euell, Docherty and the like to start.

    Comfortable away win 2-0.

This is a top 6 Championship side we are up against.

  • just quick question can i still uses the origin ticket of do i have to buy new ones ?
  • It will go to penalties, I am not sure about the specific score. Hamer will have either a blinder or a shocker vs hism old team and decide the result either way.
  • I would like to see:

    Hamer
    Hughes
    Doherty
    Morrison
    Evina
    Green
    Pritchard
    Alonso
Bover (I know he's young but he was impressive in pre-season by the sounds of it, so why not give him a run out?)
    Benson
    Euell

    Bench:
    Sullivan
    Taylor
    Jackson
    Stephens
    Wagstaff
    BWP
    Hayes

Looks like Green is playing according to his missus on Twitter.  No surprise there.

  • We know Green and Hamer are playing 100% - I wouldn't like to bet against Benno, Doc, Euell and Pritchard starting so 5 places up for grabs IMO.

I thought it was still 5 subs for this and 7 for tin pot league - Wrong
  • CP seemed to imply that Pritchard would be playing as well.  I would like to see Morrison and Taylor play.  The more they play together, the better their understanding will get.
  • I'll stick out a limb 4-0 reading
  • Anybody know how many tickets we have sold for tonight?
  • I reckon 9 changes with a very strong subs bench.

    Charlton 1-3 Reading
  • Hughes will start as well
  • I fancy us tonight. We're gonna have a lot of players who can sense an opportunity to break in to saturdays team whereas I imagine Reading will field their youngsters.
  • Sorry people but am I the only one who thinks a proffessional footballer needs resting after just 4 games into the new season is a bit of a joke. I'm happy to see our better player have a night off tonight for the youngens to get some game time but if we look tired 4 games in god help us for the next 42 league games not to mention jpt, fa and if we go through tonight carlin cup games
  • Pre season is very intense and you do need to be careful not to over play players early in the season. The club will closely monitor fitness levels and know who will need a rest though.

  • Have things got that bad for us we're not referred to as "CharLOLton"?

Reading used to be the suicide capital of Britain. Amazing what GCSE Geography teaches you

    I thought that was Telford?

    It might be Telford now?
I was only told at school. I can't say I've researched it but it has always stuck with me
  • CharLOLton? That is ALMOST as imaginative as clowntown.
Oh no wait. They are both shit.

Reckon we will beat Reading with or without our first team. The squad has plenty of depth about it this season and tonight will show that, with the likes of Bover,Pritchard,Hughes,Green all looking to make a case for first team selection.
  • Bover told me last night he was starting tonight
  • I agree that a professional footballer doesn't need resting. But I expect a lot of changes - if you have a squad you need them all to be seeing competitive action. Reading won't be near full strength. I think it will go to penalties. The crowd will be just over 7000.

    'Football friends'

    ;D
  • although pre season he was told this too but then last minute there was a change of plan so who knows?

I'm happy for a fair few of our first team to sit out tonight but I can't understand if they 'need' to sit out after 4 league games. If opportunitys come round through out the season like tonight then give them a night off but were they really looking tired against scunthorpe. I cant say because i wasn't there but if they were after 4 games then somethings not right there

While they should be mentally fresh they shouldn't be anywhere near peak physical fitness - if they were then they would have to sustain that level for around nine months. You want to get the players achieving peak fitness around half way through the season.

We play too much football in this country - this is the third week running that we've had a midweek game and this competition should have been shelved years ago - the players aren't bothered, the clubs don't like it, the fans don't bother, so why does it still get played? L1 and L2 clubs have the JPT for extra revenue - this is one competition too many for lower league clubs with small squads.

  • Optimistic and hopeful about the game tonight. I think we have enough quality in reserve (especially in midfield) to give Reading a good game. Hoping for a Benson appearance with a goal or two. Green as well hopefully!
