It will be a pity if Powell makes too many changes. The more games a team play together the better it gets and given the indifferent performance on saturday there are a few things that need sorting. Plus the fact that a cup run would be good both financially and for team morale.
It will be a good thing, few of the lads were looking tired out there, we need them fresh for Bury. We can still field a competitive team with the squad players.
I'd make 11 changes, so Mambo in for Morrison, Pritchard in for Hollands and Benson for Hayes on the team you have suggested above - Think Sullivan will start and Francis will make the bench. Good that we can make 11 changes and still have a not bad side - wil stand us in good stead I think.
I think this is a good idea. I have not been disappointed with how we have been playing, but to give the rest of the squad a chance to prove themselves should give some good feeling amongst the team that they will be given a chance. Not a complete overhaul as that could be worse, but some changes to some fringe players.
Sullivan/Hamer Hughes Taylor Doherty Evina Green Hollands Alonso/Pritchard Jackson Benson Euell
I think there are 7 subs for cups still. I'd rest Wright Philips purely because of his knee. Plus we need to see if Benson or Euell can cover if he were to be injured.
Normally I'm against putting out weakened teams in cup competitions and always in favour of putting out the strongest 11 (taking into account fitness and injuries, etc).
But this season is just too important to pick up even one injury to a a starting 11 player so I'd be very happy to put out the ressies for this one. Not very fair on the paying fans I admit but since we can't pull out of the cups altogether this is the next best option for me.
I think Saturday showed that the players could do with a rest. It will be a competetive game and an invaluable way of seeing who is ready to step up if needed. The fact is, we can play a 100% changed team and it still look not too bad. Ok - doing so will probably mean we get knocked out, but who really cares. It will make the evening more interesting for me to be honest to gauge our strength in depth which will be very important to us over the course of the season.
Bover made a great impression on us all pre-season but was only really brought in initially as part of the development squad. Might be nice to see him briefly depending how the game unfolds but I'll understand if he's held back for a while yet. Great chance though for Green, Hughes, Evina, and Alonso if fit. McDermot's done a great job at Reading though and whatever team he puts out is sure to provide vg opposition so we prob shouldn't judge the new boys too harshly if they don't shine.
Looking at Twitter. Hamer has just tweeted: "Resting up for this long awaited appearance tomorrow night!! Back the boys at The Valley! #cafc" - so looks like he will definately be making an appearance (starting I guess).
Looking forward to tonight, think if we play a strong team we can beat them, if Powell as I expect him to to play some of the ones we haven't seen it'll be tough to win, but then again they'll be trying to impress.
yep, looking forward to it, changes on both teams but those coming in for us will certainly have a point to prove, would like to see both Green and Benson starting.
I actually expect us to win a fairly high scoring encounter 3-2 maybe (possibly aet)

Reading used to be the suicide capital of Britain. Amazing what GCSE Geography teaches you
If we win we'll only get beaten by lge2 oppo in next round
It's promotion or bust so can't get worked up by the cups this season
