Danny Hollands

edited August 2011 in General Charlton
Couldn't find a thread for him but so far, so good. He offers more than Semedo has done by being more box to box. I am concerned though because his wife is expecting triplets which is obviously going to tire him out a lot more than if it was just the one. I hope it doesn't affect his performance. However, it COULD be a chance to see Alonso (Mikel) in the shirt or even Bradley Pritchard. He surely wil have a couple of weeks paternity leave so who is going o step up to the plate and try and fight for that CM spot (or even a bench spot). Can't see Euell starting CM.
Also I believe he put the ball in for BWP vs Sc*nthorpe (which again is more than what Semedo has done) but that could've been Jackson.

  • I'd really like to know where Alonso is, think he should be on the bench to offer more options, like yesterday when Hollands and Stephens weren't as effective.

    Hopefully we'll see him Tuesday.
  • as AFKA would confirm having twins is bloody hard work so triplets will be killer

however I think he's probably on a decent enough wedge to get a nanny (unlike myself and AFKA)
  • Still got evina to come back he can play left mid -
  • Really like Hollands. Good work ethic and no small measure of skill. Would be first name on my team sheet. Not looking to reopen this debate but he does everything Semedo did defensively and twice as much offensively.
  • Do they get paternity leave?
  • I would of thought that he would be given paternity leave. Usually it is a couple of weeks but I am sure he will take. I remember Francis taking a week off last season and his wife only had one! I would take it if I was him.
  • Really impressed with him so far. By far my favourite player at the moment (but I'm a fickle football fan so this can change at any moment).
  • Personally, I think Stephens is the better of the two, but as a pair they are amongst the best in the league right now. Alonso may well make an appearance when Hollands' sprogs arrive, maybe even on Tuesday to see what he can do, Pritchard looked decent vs Den Bosch and his cameo in the first week too. I'm not one of those who suddenly thinks Semedo is shit, but the movement and speed in midfield is much better right now.

Totally agree, neither am I. I thought it for 3 seasons.
  • It's a bad rule only five subs on the bench.

  • I thought that Hollands was excellent again yesterday, but Stephens disappeared. CP needs to harden up as he learns his craft, we now have options all over the pitch, and the idea of never changing a winning team doesn't wash. Every game bringsa new and different challenge, and so should our preparation.
  • andy hughes can play defencive midfield also and as other lifers said alonso too i think there is options ;-)
  • paternity leave for a footballer ? Haha. Francis wife went into labour whilst th team were on the way to an away game and he went back home for the birth. However he played the next game. Depending on when I expect Hollands to miss a game. However as said he will be able to afford a nanny or two although he does have family support close by so it shouldn't affect him as much as it would a normal person.
  • might sound harsh but i wouldn't expect him to miss any games unless there are difficulties

  • It's a bad rule only five subs on the bench.
Yes should never have been increased from 1
  • Footballers don't work anything like the hours most people do in "normal" jobs so don't have the same need for paternity leave as they have the ability to spend most of the day at home anyway should they wish to.

That said when it comes to the actual birth of course he should attend if he wishes.

Soo true he seemed a loose cannon to me !
  • Hollands certainly shows what we were missing when we had Semedo
  • i like Hollands and Stephens and i think this year is going to be about outscoring the opposition although i guess the 3 players that we are going to sign may give us more options if we need a plan b and c.

shame we didnt give him his full paternity leave entitlement

Think he took it during games ;-)
  • poor sod I reckon he was on the night feeds, then done the teething bit.
  • can't believe you're ridiculing our crossing specialist from last year. No coincidence that we didn't replace the big screen whilst he was in the team.

  • your not wrong, thats how skint we were last season, but the board were shitting themselves for insurance claims from the crowd everytime he received the ball.
  • Will probably means he'll get less sleep, but I don't think it will matter too much with family etc around. Plus training must only be a couple of hours a day so plenty of time to rest...
  • Three young babies. I reckon he will be volunteering to stay behind after training to do some extra work!
  • I didnt think he would have to much of a problem stepping up a level but he has really struggled this season, do you think its a confidence issue or is it as simple as hes just not good enough for the championship?

To me he looks like a player whos really lacking confidence for some reason. I know hes not the quickest of players but last season I recall him dealing with some very quick players by reading the game really well.

I hope he can turn his form around but I do think its time to rest him for a few games.
  • I think his form has dipped-could be the role he has been given is a bit different but forgetting the level - he certainly isn't himself. We shouldn't be writing him off though - he deserves a bit of time and patience.
  • Maybe getting married, which he did in the summer, has taken more of a toll than having triplets...

(Am I allowed to say that as a woman?!)

Shame to see him struggling as he is a decent player.
  • it's actually refreshing to see a woman take the blame for once .
