I really like Solly, but I think Smith is better than him too. If we do get him, we'll have two very good and capable right backs.
What impresses me most about this rumour is that I think we're targeting the exact kind of players, I think, we need at this club and it's making me incredibly hopeful about the future.
spurs have hutton, and the two lads they signed from sheff utd, plenty of cover and could be prepared to let him go.
Also not forgetting Kyle Walker.
Could be a goer this one. I would have thought that in letting Francis go we would have a replacement already lined up.
It was Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton they signed from Sheff Utd. As for Smith I saw him against us in FA Youth Cup game at The Valley a few years ago. He looked promising, but I can't remember much about him. Think he'd be a decent signing, would probably have to fight for a place with Solly rather than be guaranteed first choice.
Ha ha, yes I realised Walker had come from SU when I read it back, couldn't be bothered to change it. I thought Walker was excellent for Villa last year can see him being the RB at Spurs for a long time, so limitations for Smith. Come to Charlton lad, you know it makes sense!
And Smiffy, if you sign today, you get a free holiday in Sunny Spain.
and if he doesnt sign, he'll get a holiday in SA with the Spurs development squad lol.
Depsite the emergence of the two Kyle's in the last 12 months on their respective loans, still expect Charlie Corluka to be 1st choice at RB next season.
Agree, charlie will be your first choice again. Walker will be chomping at the bit though, ready when needed. Can't really comment on Naughton as i've not really seen as much of him.

Naughton was in the Championship team of the year, so he did very well at Leicester. Surely Walker would be a bit miffed to be behind Corluka, who must be the slowest player in the Premiership.
Smith seems like the sort of player we should be going for. We certainly need another right back before the season starts.
Can't pretend to know anything about him but clearly rated by Cherries and by those in the know on here. I'd really like to see an injury-free Solly emerge this season but Warren also had an excellent half, albeit at Welling. The last right back we signed from Spurs did ok didn't he?

Do you think that with so much competition in front of him at Spurs, that he'd be mad to stay there then JohnBoy? I think he'll leave but sadly think we'll struggle to land him. I live in hope though.
Why would we struggle? I'd say we'd have a great chance of getting him if he chooses to leave Spurs.
He's not played above League 1 yet, can't see many Champ teams taking a gamble on him as their first choice right back. He wants first team football which he might not get at above our league. He would also get to stay in London.

I'll try and find the article from a few weeks back but he spoke about how he felt he needed Chamionship football to progress his career and although he didn't rule out a return to League One he said that was the level he wanted. Of course he may not get the offer he's hoping for and we might be able to nip in for him, but I'd be very surprised if a few CCC clubs weren't sniffing about. He's a real prospect though and whoever gets him will have a very good player.

lol, Charlie is slow but the difference is that he can defend and he is very good on the ball. We look so much more balanced when he is in the side. Its down to him Lennon gets as much space as he does.

TBH, I've got a feeling Harry will think about using the two Kyle's in front of Charlie as cover for Lennon. Various ITKs suggest that Harry is concerned about Walker's ability to defend and he'll look to use him as an attacking player. Both Walker and Naughton have got a lot to learn.

Bearing in mind Harry played Kaboul at RB last season too, there are a lot of players in front of him in the queue. As THFC6061 said above, he has just signed a contract extension, so they obviously rate him. Can see Spurs sending him out on a season-long loan rather than a permanent transfer though.
Just seen that Smith signed a new deal with Spurs last week so think this £200k rumour is wrong but perhaps a loan could be on the cards, as THFC and JB have said.

Maybe he signed ala Jonjo so he can reward Spurs with a fee as opposed to greatly reduced development fee.
Apologies, I didn't realise you had the CL 'clique' rulebook I thought you just had the normal one like T.C.E.
How the **** did I crop up in this conversation? Just sitting in the corner, dribbling and humming Bazza Manilow tunes............and the f**kers start on me ......................w**kers ; )
Smith to Charlton rumour seems sensible to me..... though I would only image it could be a loan deal. Is he better than Simon Francis? Well he is better than a laking in confidence Simon Francis for sure. Was we dissapointed that he did'nt come back? Probably, yes. Is he better than Wiggins? No.
Pros:-
Technique/technically a good player
Getting forward
Energy levels
Cons:
Height - can get caught out with ball over top.
Got caught out a few times when in a 1-2-1 situation
Thanks for the input again Dragback. You've no idea how sensitive that particular "con" will be at the moment! (see other threads). Wiggins & Hollands both had encouraging debuts at the Welling leg-stretcher on Saturday.
Why does height have anything to do with getting caught out with the ball over the top? Were the opponents pinging balls just an inch or two over his head? Surely getting caught out is due to poor positioning and/or a lack of pace?
All this crap about height on here (and I'm not picking on your dragback). Height is only important in an aerial challange, and only then in combination with leap, timing and strength.
A fullback is only too short if, all else being equal, he is shorter than the average winger in the division. Same applies to any position. Height in and of itself doesn't really tell you much. I'm 6ft1, and the many people who have played with me on here will tell you that on a good day I'm average in the air. Les Ferdinand was one of the greatest attacking headers of the ball in recent times, and he was only 5'11
NW - Both Hollands & Wiggins will do a good job for you... I did see Holands spraying a few balls around on that highlights video. Just been reading a thread on our board "Whos the bigger club, Watford or Charlton?" .... Don't want to ignite another McOxo type discussion!
Plaayer, you should know if Rule 4 and Rule 2 are combined, then Can he defend is relegated to Rule 4. Clear? Rule 1 - height Rule 2 - twitter ability Rule 3 - Does he take his wife up the Oxo Rule 4 - Can he defend
Floyd';s got this all wrong. It's gotta be:
1 height
2 Essex appeal (for the laydees)
3 Can he defend?
4 Twitter skills
5 Roasting skills (evidence has to be in the Sun)
6 Ability to take a throw in (r u reading this Matt Fry?)

The Sun said we would.
I blame Rupert Murdoch.
