Tevez to Chelsea ?

  • If he wants to go to Argentina he can take a 95% cut and still live like a king.  Will he?  Of course not.  Tevez whined his way out of Boca and Corinthians (both of which are pretty close to Argentia!) before washing up at West Ham.  Since then he engineered one lucrative move afer another getting more and more pocket lining as he does.  I'm generally all for footballer making as much as they can, but this guy's a bellend who is purely focused on money.  Pretending it's something to do with his family is embarassing.  Shame, he's a wonderful player.

  • well i watched U21s and i thought Henderson was dogshit. Modric is a brilliant player.
given that twat S Pearce was coaching, i am surprised that he was as good as 'dogshit' .. and Modric looks good, so does the bird on countdown, dont mean she's any good in midfield though
  • no i said modric is a brilliant player. he looks like a drowned rat...far from good.
  • £30m + Drogba? Are you insane?
Not at all.  Drogba's in his 30s now and only got 12 months left on his current contract.  Max £10m if that.

Modric has still got 5 years on his current contract.

If Chelsea really want him, then they need to up their offer, dont they?  If a deal is struck, I can see Drogba or Sturridge being part of it.
What's Fabregas if Modric is Drogba +30 mill??
Oh, I so could have called him something bad then lol.
We're talking market values here.  If Henderson is worth £20m and Carroll is worth £35m, Modric and Fabregas both must be worth in the region of £35-40m minimum.  Take age into account and the number of years left on their contracts, that has to be a reasonable estimate.

Just because Liverpool paid that much for them doesn't mean that they're worth that much. You can't really follow that logic in comparison to other players. Everyone knows Liverpool paid well over the odds there.

And bear in mind that Modric isn't even British and so won't help with the new player restrictions.

    £30m + Drogba. Do me a favour.

Unlike a spurs fan to exaggerate...
  • no i said modric is a brilliant player. he looks like a drowned rat...far from good.
great comment from Jack Charlton after Scott Parker won the McDonalds superkid or whatever it was .. 'brilliant, but can he play football'. Modric is similar, brilliant, but what is the end result?  I take the point he's good to watch but for my part I'd prefer a less flashy but more productive player in the team context.
  • modric is superb at bringing others into play. his non-stop movement and football brain allows other players to produce the goods.

id say modric is one of the less flashy players. i know it was against us, but that FA cup game...when he came on he turned it on his head. one of the best displays ive seen from a player live. albeit against our shower of shite. and whenever ive seen him on tv he's always been exceptional.
  • mmmm, we're gonna have to differ in opinion on Modi.  Be interesting to see him at Chelsea though,  alongside Frank junior and Essien (if fit) as well as Drogba and Tevez
  • yh i think we will mate. i remember seeing an analysis of chelsea on tv (think it may have been andy gray on sky) and how they have struggled to break teams down. think he will be exactly what they've been crying out for.
  • According to the BBC, Abrahamovitch recently spent £43 million + commission on a work of art, so he must still have a few quid. Mind you this was in 2008 and a painting lasts for ever, not so a footballers legs or form.
  • Tevez = Trouble. His track record proves that.

Modric is only 'ok'. He has been playing for Spurs where evenpoor players look good.

  • was the lucian frued painting that he purchased lincs. he bought it at my work. value will go up when the artist dies so a very shrewd, albeit large, investment.
  • wasn't a Freud but a Bacon, who is now dead and therefore his stuff is increasing in value all the time. It is a 'tryptych', a three piece, very gruesome, Dali meets Picasso in my opinion.
  • Sorry, cant quote on my iPad but Chunes, there's no way Modric will go for less than £30m. Its well known HR wants Drogba.

Lincs, have you ever seen Modric play? Flashy he is not. His work rate is something else and he keeps everything ticking over. He rarely does tricks, plays very much with his head up like Hoddle and Gazza used to but granted with a lot less goals but he does play a much deeper role than they used to.

I confess, only on the telly and he is skilful, but, i maintain, his end result is lacking, i.e. he looks good but achieves little. Perhaps with better players he would achieve more.
  • well he purchased the freud in 2008 as well Lincs. $33m plus commision.

Gotcha .. the Freud is called 'benefits supervisor sleeping' and by happenstance the model for the painting was interviewed last week on radio 4. The triptych went for $86 million dollars, not the mere 40 odd million i said earlier. Still what's 10 million among friends?.  it is 'pretty certain' that Abrahamovitch was the buyer according to the BBC. Do you work @ Sotheby's? .. must be an interesting job

Always liked Modric, but when he came on at half-time against us, i have never seen a player who dominated in just 45 mins.

  • no thats the darkside Linc...i work at Christies.
  • no thats the darkside Linc...i work at Christies.
like city v united, l'pool v everton, rangers v celtic, charlton v millwall .. except nastier
  • Modric was different gravy when he came on vs us in the cup game, never realised he was so quick until I saw him in the flesh. I know it's not that hard but he absolutely tore us to shreds. He's good enough to win Champions League medals, imo, so I don't think Spurs can grumble about losing him after they didn't even qualify and it's hardly a shock that Chelsea are trying to unsettle a player.

Think I'd prefer Sturridge over Drogba. Dear old Dider was starting to look a little bit of a spent force last season whereas Sturridge's loan spell at Bolton hinted at a promising young player starting to deliver on his potential. Spurs will get 2 years tops out of Drogba, they may get 5 or 6 out of Sturridge which would make him much better business.

  • Looks like Tevez could be off to Corinthians, they have bid 35m for him.

go on tevez move to chelsea would be the funniest thing to happen for a long time, if i was roman i would say to him heres x amount a week offer him everything he wants then lets see just how 'homesick' he is. he wont go to brazil deffo wont go to argentina, real dont want him barca cant afford him. strange days.

dont get the modric hype, if it was a choice been him van der vaart would take the dutchman any day. modric is very ligght weight in the youssi benyouin school of attacking midfielders, if chelski over anything over 20m take it and run. he scored what 3 goals last year? how many assists? never understood the hype maybe because i take very little interest in the premiere league now were not there but to me the dutchman is a far better amc/behind the striker player than modric.

tend to agree with you, more show pony than winning stayer, but a lot on here reckon he's the cat's whiskers .. if horses can have cat's whiskers

Modric doesnt play behind a striker and he isnt an attacking midfielder.  Modric and vdV are very different players.
  • Jonathan Wilson has written a few pieces about Luka Modric being the first of the 'new breed' of playmakers.

Here's one, and it's also covered in depth in 'Inverting the Pyramid'.

I think he's a wonderful player and Spurs would be considerably weakened without him.

"However, Chelsea were bang out of order making their £22m bid public when they were already told privately that Modric was not for sale.  If thats not a blatant attempt to unsettle a player then I dont know what is.  Fair enough, all clubs do it to an extent but £22m?  They must be having a laugh.  I'm sure once they've offered £30m + Drogba or Sturridge or £40m cash then Levy will sell."

It's a good job 'Arry hasn't been doing the same with Parker or this would look highly hypocritical

what Johnboy said. all well and good looking at stats in sundays paper but watch the games and see what modric brings to the side.

Would it?  Levy has come out and said Modric isnt for sale at ANY price.  Have Gold & Sullivan come out and said that?  G&S are actively trying to sell him.  Anyway, HR hasnt got to do anything, he just sent his son Jamie away on holiday with Scott Parker instead ;-)

[From what I've heard, Parker may end up at Chelsea now on loan for a year!]

"I made a promise that I would not sell Scott and I will not, for any amount of money, break that promise to the West Ham supporters," (Sullivan 2010)

And 'Arry was chased him through last summer. You're right though, I have a sneaking suspicion that Jamie is whispering a lot in Parker's ear. Didn't they share a box together for one of Chelsea's champions league games last season

I'd be quite happy to loan Parker to Chelsea for a year, come back up and pair him and Collison together in the middle with Nolan off the target man. Good deal all round (assuming we get a loan fee from Chelsea).
