Tevez to Chelsea ?

edited July 2011 in General Charlton

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to bankroll an £80million double swoop for Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez and Luka Modric.

It was my understanding, that Tevez wants to be nearer his daughters in Argentina.

If there's any truth in the above then it would make Dowie's move back North to us seem quite reasonable  :-)

  • The pedant in me bets that, proportionately speaking, Tevez's move is about the same distance South as Dowie's move North was :)
  • Probably more flights direct to Argie land than from Manchester, so that's a couple of hours or so saved.
  • Well, it is 160 miles closer.............
  • it's closer by a couple of hours as he'll have more choice of flights from Heathrow. Do they have direct flights to Argentina from Manchester?

Now why didn't I think of posting something like that?

surely he's minted enough to have his own plane anyway, can't see him hopping on the manchester-heathrow smegabus
  • If Tevez does join Chelsea, Chelsea will win the premier league this coming season
  • He wants to leave because his wife doesn't like living in Manchester. I don't see what her problem is, it's not like she's having to live in Sheffield is it

I thought he's split up from his wife?
  • Dont get me started on Modric...

  • Starting with Modric is something Spurs are unlikely to do next season John !
  • modric will become my favourite prem player if he dings off the spuds and goes chelsea.

There's a big brown envelope with a certain person's name on it when Modric goes allegedly!

    Agreed.

He'll become as popular as Bertbatov...

Wouldnt surprise me at all tbh.  Levy and the club put out statements to fan out the flames then a certain someone wades in dousing petrol all over it again.

Have to say, the whole Spurs thing doesnt rest easy with me at the mo.  Dont blame Modric or Bale if they want to go because they should both be playing in the CL.  However, Chelsea were bang out of order making their £22m bid public when they were already told privately that Modric was not for sale.  If thats not a blatant attempt to unsettle a player then I dont know what is.  Fair enough, all clubs do it to an extent but £22m?  They must be having a laugh.  I'm sure once they've offered £30m + Drogba or Sturridge or £40m cash then Levy will sell.

As long as he sells him early and gives us time to get in a replacement unlike the time he told Carrick and Berbatov on deadline day and left us stuffed for 6 months.  Personally, if the things that Modric has alleged to have said in the press are true, I'd like to see him rots in the stiff but in this day and age, every player has a price.

  • Oh and I take it everyone is aware that a certain someone's court case starts next week at Southwark Crown Court? ;-)

Could be worth a trip down there, shame my jury service was last october
  • Got to agree johnboy that £22m is a bit of a joke when you compare it to the like of carroll and the lad man utd signed for about 20m (can't remember his name, that's how good he is). Modric has proved that he can do it at prem level. Don't read too much into what chairman say. He's probably just trying to bump up the price whilst keeping the fans on side.
  • £30m + Drogba? Are you insane?
  • What's Fabregas if Modric is Drogba +30 mill??
  • I think modric was the best player in the league last year (much better than bale imo) and spurs should hold out for £40m+ (considering carrol was £35m and torres was £50m)

Not at all.  Drogba's in his 30s now and only got 12 months left on his current contract.  Max £10m if that.

Modric has still got 5 years on his current contract.

If Chelsea really want him, then they need to up their offer, dont they?  If a deal is struck, I can see Drogba or Sturridge being part of it.

Oh, I so could have called him something bad then lol.
We're talking market values here.  If Henderson is worth £20m and Carroll is worth £35m, Modric and Fabregas both must be worth in the region of £35-40m minimum.  Take age into account and the number of years left on their contracts, that has to be a reasonable estimate.

  • Talking Drogba...I dont know what one would screw my stomach up in knots more...Drogba or Adebayor lol.  Deary dear.  It was hard enough to accept Gallas.
  • heard ages ago via a few people that modric is going chelsea and drogba opposite direction .... but as separate deals
  • Interesting - just seen on one of the Spurs sites that Scott Parker is now 4/6 from 25/1 to be a Chelsea player by the end of the window...maybe short term cover for Michael Essien???
  • Ah...poor old Spurs, I'm gutted for ya, truly I am.

Curb It please can you redirect my shirt sponsorship money to Harry's bung fund/the keep Modric at the Lane campaign?

Current feeling is we'd rather you put the money in the bung fund so he actually goes down.  Ta muchly :-)

That's not quite how the transfer market works though. Neither of them are 'worth' that much. Liverpool paid massively over the odds for both Carroll and Henderson. I don't think those two signings should be the yardstick by which all other transfers are judged. Charlie Adam is a better player than Henderson, and cost under £10m.

What have Fabregas and Modric done and won lately?
Both are seriously overrated and look better than they produce (if you know what i mean). Barcelona don't really want nor need Fabregas, where else is he going to go?

Modric?.. according to football stats Henderson who has just gone to Liverpool had a better pass completion and assist rate last season.

Modi and Fabi are lovely boys, nice hair, alice bands, look good in  leather jackets and all that stuff, but dont get conned by the press and agent bullshit. If Fab and Modi are valued at £35 million then Tevez must be worth £60 million.

AND, interesting how Liverpool looked good last year as soon as Gerrard was out of the side. There is always this danger of a one man band or the perception thereof.

  • Gerrard made the word Overrated.
  • well i watched U21s and i thought Henderson was dogshit. Modric is a brilliant player.
