CHARLTON Athletic have handed a trial to Werder Bremen defender Niklas Andersen. The 22-year-old, a former German U20 international, is set to be involved in Saturday's friendly against Welling United and also head off to the Addicks' training camp in Spain next week.Andersen can play at both left-back and in the centre of defence.Don't miss tomorrow's South London Press for the latest Charlton news.Follow me on Twitter - @RichCawleySLP.
Good pedigree - nobody can argue with that. You would hope he can do a job at league 1 level in the UK. Other than last year, Bremen have been comfortably top half in the Bundesliga. Played most of his football for their 'B' side. But if we were looking at a Spurs or Villa reserve, we would probably be well chuffed. We would be well chuffed with Danny Batth, and he has played a similar number of games for Wolves who are nowhere near Bremen levels.
Could be a shrewd move. It seems we are being priced out of the market at home so it makes sense to look abroad - time for Mr. Vetere to pull some strings!
and his dad was a pretty good player in the 80's so hopefully picked up some tips from him.............................and his grandmother was a professional handball player in the 60/70's............and hopefully did NOT pick up any tips from her.
Difficult to get too excited about players on trial. Sign up rate must be less than 10%. Hopefully though with Vetere's links we'll be getting a better calibre of player on trial from now on.

His uncle Gerry was a great '70's puppeteer! Lets hope he can pull a few strings!
Was just reading a Werder Bremen forum, and they say he is good in the air, but is sometimes "over-enthusiastic". He seems to get a lot of yellow cards, together with one serious injury per year (3 months plus), perhaps as a result of this.
He was playing in Werder's reserves in the German third division. They were relegated to the regional league and Werder appear to have cancelled the contracts of 13 players, including Andersen, so there wouldn't be a fee involved.
Already got a reply from a German FM researcher, backs up what Vienna said about his injury problems. He's meant to be big and strong so that passes the first CL test.
"It's more the other way round he plays usually as left back but is also able to play as centre back. For Werder II he played always left back but he is tall and robust enough to play at the centre. He is available on a free. Dunno what happened exactly as he had a contract till 2012. Probably he left because he has no perspective for the first team anymore.
The problem is that he was injured many many times since 2010. Although he should have been a key player for the reserve he made only 34 appearances during the last two seasons."

"Werder II wasn't relegated because two other teams have been relegated due to financial problems. So Werder II will still play at third tier. Andersen is the only one who got his contract cancelled (I assume it was mutual). The contracs of the other leavings were running out in June. Remember it's a U23 team so only 3 players aged 23 or older are allowed to play. Nearly every year there is such a fluctuation. Just normal.
Normally Andersen focuses more on defending but when he is given the space he can use it effectively and his pace is average. You can expect a solid defender nothing more. But to be fair I haven't seen him much during the last season. If he is really fit you can't do much wrong with him."
Thanks Scoham , and thanks for explaining on another thread the process FM uses. As I have said previously I normally check out FM when we sign a player.
In terms of speed Andersen rates 14 which is considerably quicker than the Doc or Llera.
In the SLP today SCP talks him up and says' Niklas has lookéd better and better with each passing day....I've been quietly pleased with him'.
Not a bad player. As above he's mostly played in their second string side, which is similar to L1, if he can cut it at that level then L1 should be within his grasp.

So another thing German football deals with better than us!

6 foot 2, that's good enough for me!
Here's the link: http://www.southlondon-today.co.uk/sport.cfm?id=24877&headline=Exclusive:%20Werder%20Bremen%20defender%20on%20trial%20at%20Charlton
Couldn't find him on Wikipedia unless he moonlights as an Ice hockey player!
Here's his wiki page. don't matter how good or bad he is...........6ft 2in passes CL's height requirement so we must sign him.

Be interested to see how he looks.
