I haven't liked the look of the merchandise for years (if ever).
I remember when we were in the Prem and for some reason saw Spurs' merchandise brochure. Most of the stuff was tasteful, the badge subtle and altogether as classy as you can get, football related. Especially I thought the clothing was good and something you could wear without being at a match.
Our merchandise seems to have been mostly always tacky, cheap, badly designed and garish. The badge always appears a large as possible with those 'bloody rings' around it... just the sword maybe on some stuff?
Each to their own though, so I guess the in your face stuff just sells more, especially with children.
It's cheap crap because they want to maximise profit - there's no pride or consideration for fans involved. same with kit sponsors over the years. They can make more money per unit on a random Macron or Joma kit manufacturer. Non league Carshalton fc get Nike on the other hand because they want their fans to be proud of their kit and have something decent to wear
It sounds like a lot of people are moaning about the quality of goods in the club shop, most businesses would die for this sort of feedback from their customers, I hope people's comments will be listened to ? Thanks Airman for the comment on the oven gloves, but my missus threw them away, it does put me off buying stuff, why doesn't the club put vouchers for the club shop in the back of season tickets, as well as reviewing it's product range , and listening to customer needs.
On match days you get a bouncer on the door (or both doors), and when you go in surely the layout could be loads better, although don't ask me, ask a TV shop guru about this.
I know the space is an awkward shape, but to the right of the in door, and at the rear of the shop, those odd areas must be possible to arrange better...especially the 'dent' area deep in the shop near the TV screen.
The wander around the shop is usually a disappointment, especially when you look at the queue at the counter. Mind you, the whole experience would be better if there was stuff worth buying.
I know choice is the order of the day, but maybe there should be fewer lines (one mug for example), but the quality should be excellent if a little dearer.
There could be a plastic tat area for cheap and cheerful (maybe at the rear of the shop) pencils, and sharpeners, and those vile sports drink containers etc, and the sales area could be streamlined with some decent and keenly priced impulse items there, which sales staff could quickly 'promote' at the point of sale.
The place seems a bit tired and stale, and possibly it might be worth shelling out for a consultation with a person with an eye for retail design.
Mind you, Lillywhites in Bromleys Glades (which is apparantly at last closing down) is one of the absolute worst places to shop I have ever been in....sadly our club shop reminds me of there more and more.

So wearing Nike makes you proud? Why? Because it's a brand? Should we get a Super Dry or Holister kit?
Players should take pride in wearing the CAFC badge not whichever brand is stuck on the shirt.
And since we'll lose £5m this year dead right we go with the kit manufacturer that pays us the most rather than the ones like Nike or Adidas who we have to pay. Even when we were in the prem we weren't attractive enough to the big brands because we don't sell enough shirts.
Carshalton buy the nike kit just like any sunday side. Leeds and Millwall get paid to wear Macron.
I bet if we had Nike or Adidas or another well known brand then the badges and sponsor logo wouldn't fall off after half a dozen washes orthe crotch go on the shorts after a couple of dozen wears.
As for the baby stuff I had the same problem last year so it will be nice to finally get my boy something

This.
You really think fans wouldn't be more likely to buy a better kit brand? To me, you can feel the cheapness of the materials and it certainly looks it. Joma kits had stickers and logos fall off whilst Macron I've had to sort through the kits to make sure the logo and badge are on straight. A friend of mine took his back for that reason. Proud doesn't come into it.
Now, in league 1, perhaps it isn't an issue. But even in the Premier league we were being shafted with crap kits like Joma since the 80s. Best QUALITY kit make of the last 20 years was Le Coq.
The thing with Nike, Adidas, Puma et al is that if you aren't one of the biggest clubs you have to pay just to get one of their templates. Look at Hull, West Brom, Stoke and Derby for Adidas, and Burnley, Cardiff, Preston, Leyton Orient and Rotherham for Puma - all their kits are not individual, but Adidas/Puma shirts in club colours.
That's why I prefer the smaller makes, the uniqueness of each kit. And do you think that many fans don't buy a kit just because it isn't a big name brand and the quality might not be as good? My home shirt is still pretty much as I bought it last Summer.
I'm sure there are people who would buy a nike CAFC shirt but not a Macron CAFC shirt but what does that say about them? That they support a brand not a club.
And nike adidas are made in the same factories in China as Macron etc.
They are All made of nylon and I never wear one but please don't kid me that Nike nylon is better than Macron nylon.
It's about fashion Henry. I don't really expect you to understand. ;-)
I don't doubt the kits are all made in China, but many fans would but all sorts of Nike branded items from the club shop where as Macron just doesn't have the same credibility.
I understand the financial implications, and accept it, but we have had some really poor kits in the past, both quality and design, yet I have rarely seen the major manufacturers produce such low quality.
For me, it makes sense that the manufacturer would pay us a lot of money. I mean they can produce any old rubbish and they will sell thousands at a price significantly higher than some designer shirts.
I, personally, think the current shirt is a little tacky, all be it that it is better than many of the Joma kits, but I still have one. I shall not, however, be wearing anything else made by Macron. However, I would be tempted to buy Nike or Adidas Charlton branded kit for the Gym or for other sporting occasions.
Just my view, but it is clearly shared by others. As you haven't bought yourself a Charlton shirt for years Henry I'm not sure you are the club's target audience anyway.
The last time the club shop was any good was when you could buy Polo's shirts. T shirts, hats all with Se7 on them not just CAFC or the badge as big as your head,
The baby stuff has drove me nuts for years never had a good range, I understand the policy may have cahnged of late but whoever does the purchasing needs to get into it a bit more actually look like they have done research into what people want,
The pricing has always been far too dear
spurs have got it spot on all their stuff looks like it has been thought out and considered
It went downhill the day it changed from being the Club Shop, to becoming a 'Superstore'
Now the Cambridge Dictionary defines a Superstore as an extremely large shop which sells food and/or other goods usually for use in the home at cheaper prices than most other shops.
Extremely large? Cheaper Prices?? Some mistake, surely?
Taking my 5 year old to the clubshop once every couple of months and it is pretty pony what we have in there and the last time we went he didn't want any of the crap We've done the non working water bottle twice our ducks can float and he liked the pad and pen (twice) Just bought a couple of badges last time from the man opposite on the street Like the team/club the store has slipped in standard (understandable) but unfortunately in the last few years you could feel the staff's anxiety as they knew their jobs were on the line as the shit football produced more relegations and redundancies sad times Still at least there were new grounds and we weren't in the premiershit for some freaks to get excited about
That is the thing, you do not even need to put the whole badge on their just the sword in hand. Part of the problem is lack of space, the club shop is not large enough to handle the footfall that 20,000 plus crowds bring and to carry the range of merchandise that would please us the consumer. If we ever get back up thoughts should turn to the possible building of a outlet twice the size of the current one, if at all possible. I also think that the current outlet could be used to show off items that can only be ordered through the website, that would boost the possible range of merchandise. Also the club need to offer incentives to do your buying on-line, it would boost revenue, first order 10% off and any order over, say £50, free postage.
Right I agree there is a lot of 'tat' but I have never understood why people's kits fall apart? I have NEVER had any problems with the sponsor peeling away and I wear my CAFC shirts 2-3 times a week so if we say 2 that's 104 uses and washes a year? I get the feeling a lot of people don't know what a delicate wash is!
Only other thing I have got is a black polo with silver badge and that's still in mint condition too.
That's why the se7 logo was quality it meant something to me it states charlton in a different way bring it back, we even done stuff with just the sword, best things in the shop imo

agreed, apart from the duck I have been well happy with how things have lasted. I expect tumble dryers may have something to do with it.

You're right. I understand style not fashion : - )
They may say they want Nike branded stuff but you can buy Nike T-shirts for £7 in JD Sports. And we'd have to sell £ms worth to make up what we'd lose from the Macron deals. Remember we only get a fraction of the £40 as profit on each shirt sold after tax and cost of sales.
I agree that the shop could up it's game considerably but a comparison to Spurs is like complainng that your corner shop doesn't have the stock range of Sainsbury's.
I tell you what want the biggest scandal in the club shop, and that was they didn't sell Red/White or Red/white/black bar scarves in the shop. That kind of thing is an absolute basic, they always sell, and should always be in stock.

i bought a plain red and white with black trim back in april, very old school from the shop, my old man really liked it went back to get another one all gone couldnt sdsay if they were getting more in. i find the shop bit of a souless void, but hey thats just modern football man utd killed off the local friendly clubshop when they opened there mega store back in 1992

tsk next you'll be saying the commercial centre isn't a box office.... doh!
Don't lets get too carried away. We're a far cry from Chris (I think I'll have a two and a half hour lunchbreak) Tugwell. The business under Tugwell as opposed to now, would be like comparing walking naked through freezing thorns whilst being assaulted by a water cannon, to being kissed and wafted by a host of angels whilst floating on a cloud.

must admit, the quality of the macron training wear is superb!
on the other hand, the KBRS logo has peeled off my sons shirt, so that is something that they have to work on.
in general, the club shop could do better with the items that they sell, but they are not the worst
