  • but only to be dealt with once we have signed our 3 - 4 Centre Backs
  • he he of course, although I am guessing its in the pipeline after all these signging should bring more ST sales, more bums on seats and more potential sales of the above
  • I bought an oven glove that isn't heat proof, and a water bottle that is impossible to get the water out of. I called it 'tat', and the guy running the club shop jumped up and down like Homer Simpson does when he's mocking someone, calling me "tat man" a lot. I didn't think this was the best customer services approach, but it seemed to make him happy.

  • I agree, went online back in November when JuniorLung was born, and they had nothing, and I mean NOTHING littluns there.

  • The Macron stuff and Joma before that was quite good IMO. My son has the Macron caot and it is very nice - well made with loads of pockets -  The Footballs are of decent quality - you get what you pay for.

Still not stocking your cardigans though, or do you place special orders ;-)

  • The stuff in the shop has been going downhill for years and has mirrored the general malaise at the club. It's understandable I guess - no point stocking tons of stuff when there are less and less people coming through the door and demand is down - but it can be bloody frustrating when you're in there just dying to spend some money - say for your sons birthday - and you realise the only things that aren't complete crap are things you've already bought before!
  • Anyone remember the 'Charlton Chocolate' ? Best ive ever tasted

Agree with the oven glove comment it was rubbish , bought one & through it away as it wasn't heat proof , gutted as i bought as a Mothers Day Present for Mrs MIA ;)
  • Some info on the Superstore from Paul Ellison, who oversees it.

The shop is currently going through a mini facelift – it has been painted, there is full Macron rebranding exercise going in prior to the season's start and there will be a new shirt printing counter also in place for the new season. This will allow us to print all day on match days – I know that stopping printing early is a major source of irritation to fans at the moment.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

With regards to the oven gloves and water bottle – we operate a goodwill policy on items that are faulty and I am happy to replace or refund them.

We have had restrictions on buying for the last couple of years – this has now been lifted slightly e.g. we will have a full CAFC baby / toddler range in by the end of August / early September. In addition to the above we have several new ranges coming in to add variety to what is currently in stock. We also of course have the new away kit and training range that will be in place for the new season.

Overall I think the fans will see a big improvement to the look and feel of the shop.

  • Thats all very well, but at City Addicks three years ago knit wear was requested - when is that coming in ;-)
  • i for one would love a knitted replica shirt and would wear it with pride.

Interesting "policy" that one. Nowt to do with the law insisting on replacements/refunds for goods not of merchantable quality or fit for purpose then - like an oven glove you can't use for stuff that's just come out of the oven and a water bottle that you can't get any water out of!
  • I have a nice white plain mug shaped and mug sized mug, with the straightforward Charlton Athletic logo opposite the handle. Clean neat and classic....can't get them in the store anymore so am nursing said mug and restricting my tea from it for matchdays. I would love to get a new one or two.
  • or the duck that doesnt float.
  • You can understand the club limiting what they sell after a few relegations. I agree that the shop looks empty and full of really random or poor quality items. I think the club need to go back to basics and sell BASIC STAPLE club merchandise. Such as, flags, plain key rings, plain badges, plain t shirts etc. Sometimes they are just trying too hard, for example the rubber ducks, Hair ties, etc.

My dad and grandad always used to say when I was a boy that the club shafted the fans in the club shop and that the club wasn't interested in the fans with regards to the merchandise. I've found it to be true. I complained that 2 security tags were left on my clothes about 3 years ago and received the most appalling rude email back, basically calling me an arsehole for complaining and insinuating that I was probably a thief. I didn't buy anything in there again, which hurts because I want to help my club. We've all been there, buying things we don't really want just pump some money in. But when they treat you really poorly, their own fans, you begrudge the money. It left a really bad taste in my mouth and I complained about this ridiculous email to the directors but did they gave a monkey's toss? Did they hell. Ignored every letter.

I, or rather my son, has one of those. to be fair ours does float, but it does so with it's arse in the air and it's head under the water.

That was the last item I was allowed to purchase from the club shop for my son, Mrs KHA banned any more of what she referres to as "Shit" being purchased.

In all likelihood my son will probably end up supporting Chelsea or Arsenal as he has shown little interest in coming to Charlton thus far, and you really can't get anything Charlton branded worth paying for. We even went about three years with no team shirts in his size. It is staggering just how many Arsenal and Chelsea shirts are on Kings Hill. Kings Hill School (for 4-11 year olds) even have a football club sponsored by Chelsea with free training wear and kits for all the kids that join. How can I possibly compete with that when his Charlton Duck can't even float upright?

On a serious note, I can see the pull of the Premier Legaue teams that genuinely claim to be in with a chance of silverwear. How can we really expect a 7 year old with a class full of friends supporting Chelsea and Arsenal to want to follow Charlton?

It's usually a few years later when they really start to develop their own opinions, that they are likely to change. Both mine switched from "supporting Man U & Chelsea" to Charlton. They used to come to Charlton but said they supported the Prem teams. But then one day it changed & Charlton was their team & they had a liking for the others !

PS We've been going downhill ever since  :-(

  • Be thankful  some of us remember when the club shop was an old shed with a few pastic penants for sale.
  • Was in the club shop yesterday and it was shockingly poor. Its my boys first birthday soon and wanted to buy them shirts with 1 and their names printed on the back, however they were out of stock and unlikely to get any more in the next couple of weeks, so that's 70-80 quid the club the club will lose out on.

Elsewhere in the shop, the only other clothing merchandise were woolly hats, and plain t-shirts with the club badge steamed on that looked so cheap you would not believe.

Due to its detached position from other retail, people who go to the club shop are going there specifically to spend money, not just browse, so real wasted opportunities when you see people leave empty handed.
  • hear hear Dan, I am in the same boat and for several years have struggled with buying stuff for mine  and my friends new arrival(s). the result has been hand me down 'addicks' stuff.. the baby/toddler market may not be huge but as a staple staple stuff that should always be available, and not over complicated charlton badge essentially on various items. The exception being the home kit (not sure anything more than that is really necessary including the socks and shorts, and certainly not in big supply)

there should be campaign for summer holidays - we all want something to parade on the beach in eh (well perhaps not all)

and campagins to coincide with for example the big push in the transfer market recently

I would buy a quality rubber ducky - my son has a little collection going.

I am happy to be part of a focus group

    :D

oh yes and can we bring back I scored at the valley knickers..ta (joking of course)

    ;)

You've just reminded me GH, my satin scarf has started to fade and the tassels at one are coming away (probably where I tie it around my wrist).

Do you think they'll change it? ; )

I can honestly say I haven't set foot in the Superstore for two seasons now, with 5 young Grandchildren I should be spending two or three hundred

quid a year in there, but have aways found it to be a cold unwelcoming place with little or no choices and certainly expensive, as the wife say's she can spend half the cash and go to the Sports Direct shop and come out with bags of cheap tat, rather than half a bag of expensive tat.

I found the secret here is to take them to matches there really is no substitute and should convert most particulary when acompanied by a win and some merchandise... hmm.

anyway it worked on my 7 year old step daughter whos dad supports everton - but has never took her to a game in her life or bought her a shirt, etc
