  • Yup, both a bit smelly if you put your fingers in it.
proper quality viewage would probably smell of rose petals if you put your fingers in it.
  • Not from round Sidcup mate.
  • My scanner is set to full when i enter the station area at Sidcup. At Eltham there was very little to pick up on the viewage radar and New Eltham wasn't much better. Sidcup can be like an edition of Beverley Hills 9107500 or whatever that programme was. Little lovelies everywhere, tarted up and there to brighten your day.

Fair enough mate....Im very embittered after over a decade of paying a helluva lot of dough (for me) to travel on a "service" that doesnt give value for money. And i pay for zone 3/4 so even worse for those further out or even outside the London zone 6.  Agree that if i were to drive in it would be even more extorniate.

Nothing will change for either type of commuter unless there was mass protest in the form of a boycott which unfortunatley cant see it happening. Til then well keep get shafted (almost literally in some of the rush hour carriages) and pay more for the privilege.

  • To be honest, I don't think its that expensive..a 1-6 travelcard (I go from crayford to mornington crescent) is £55 a week for adults..I get it for £35 as I'm classed as a student still even though I'm on a full time wage...so that works out at the most as 11 or 7 quid a day...which I think is actually quite reasonable..
  • Have been travelling from Sidcup to Redhill everyday for the last few weeks, already despise commuting especially after yesterday at London Bridge. Really hate the last minute platform changes at London Bridge when you're already halfway down the platform.

Really not looking forward to when the bad weather starts again.

  • Amazes me how cushy some peoples life's must be to find commuting so hard. Everybodies different i suppose but sitting or standing on a warm train isn't that bad is it?
  • Problem is. It's sometimes not a warm train but a baking train squashed up against a door and an armpit. Then someone on the train faints because the heating is on sometimes when it doesn't even need to be on.

On top of that when trains are late, cancelled with no excuse. What does the commuter get back. Sod all.

Charin x staff are also the biggest bunch of muppets going. Rude, unhelpful bar stewards
  • pay peanuts that the service you get i'm afraid
Who's paying peanuts? Have you seen the price of train tickets?
A ticket from Sevenoaks to London (trains only) is £2,800! How is that peanuts?
  • For arguments sake around £12 a day how else would you there i'n that time and speed for that money

Myabe there are pockets where the service isn't so bad- mine is terrible - I have to take a train and 2 tubes to get to work and if I don't get a day where I am delayed it feels like Christmas. Add to that dirty carriages, no seat, squashed up to people with BO and I find it hard to think of many things I would rather do less. If you get a seat on a clean train which some amazingly seem to manage - well you are not going to be so annoyed I suppose. I have to pay over £3.5 grand a year for my excuse for a service.

Peanuts ............read it all now...... when i pay £3500 a year  .............I cry when i part with it  --thats a good Holiday spent on a filthy dirty late running train service --owned by the french

Had the opposite the other day to be fair. Forgot my ticket had run out the day before and had no problem with them after one was winding me up telling me it would be £300 fine because of my shoes.
Renewed my ticket no problem and had a laugh with one about my train fares going to his gut!

  • Geezer threw up on my train home tonight. Which was nice. Jam bloody packed it was too.
  • Having worked on the railway for 16 years up until 2000, I find it so strange when people moan about how busy a train is, yet will still push to get on it, or even fight to be at the front, yet the back has plenty of seats.

One thing to remember is, if its already busy and people are standing, you don't have to get on it! Wait for another train.

I always got really angry at people who would moan about standing on a train when on the next platform a slightly slower train would be empty. Where I worked (Sevenoaks) the slower train took about 7 or 8 minutes longer, but would people go on it? Nope everybody would moan because the faster train was busy and had no seats.

The normal running time from Sevenoaks to London on a Fast train is 30 minutes, could you do that in a car at 8am? You couldn't even make Orpington in that time. Could you do that on a coach? How often do coaches get stuck in traffic jams? When they do, they go a different route, a train can not so you sit and wait, but be honnest how oftern are tains delayed more than 10 minutes?

  • chaps.....in most cases once the train is half hour late you can claim half /all your money back depending on the provider. it's definitely the case once it's an hour late. i looked for the southeastern t&c but they unsurprisingly haven't put it on their website. you can get a copy of the full t&c at a station- by law they have to give it to you if you ask for it.....otherwise the whole ticket buying transaction is invalid. if you can't be bothered with that section 42 of the national rail conditions of carriage states

    H. TRAIN SERVICE DISRUPTION
    42. Compensation for delays
    (a)  Where delays, cancellations or poor service arise for reasons within the
control of a Train Company or Rail Service Company, you are entitled to

    (c)  This Condition 42 sets out the entire liability of the relevant Train Companies in
relation to delays, cancellations and poor service. Except as shown in this
Condition 42, the Train Companies do not accept liability for any loss (including
consequential loss) caused by the delay and or cancellation of any train. However,
they will consider additional claims in exceptional circumstances.
    (d)  Rail travel vouchers may be exchanged or used in part payment for tickets for any
rail journey on the services of the Train Companies.
    (e)  To qualify for this compensation you must make a claim to one of the Train

you must provide a ticket or other authority to travel which was valid for that

Maybe working on the trains you didn't have to arrive at work by a certain time, After all, they could always just cancel the train due to "Absence of a member of train crew". For us poor sods who are expected to arrive on time however, getting the next train is not a viable option. Not only is the next train 20 minutes later it will be even more packed than the one you just told us not to get on due to taking its normal passenger load plus overflow from the earlier delayed/packed/cancelled train.

    Any peanuts in it ?

You find it so strange when the back has plenty of seats??? Are you sure... half the time the back of the train is halfway up the station as there are only 4 flipping carriages.  Where have all the carriages gone.

You made my point Rizzo.... yes my boss finds it so strange that i dont wait around till an empty train comes in... i might make work by about 10.00ish if i did that every day.

p.s. when i lived in sevenoaks, i always got on the slow train and took a seat.

Anyway i dont know why im moaning, just a couple of stupid comments on here have riled me, i have a fairly good service and always get a train, going home is lovely a train every ten mins from cannon street up to 9pm.  Nice.
