You can see with a couple of biggies, includin a couple of centre halfs that it could really start looking up. I'd love to see us offer Anyinsah 6 months to prove his fitness - too good not to give every chance to.
It's a very good start, pleased that we are replacing our failed Midfeiled of Racon & Semedo, time to move on. With several more newbies on the way I think we'll have a better idea of where we stand once the defenders are on board.
Yesterday was a clear statement of intent by the Club, and others that we are looking to sign should be encouraged by it. I don't think that any of us know very much about the threesome, but when you consider that unusually for a League One side we have a wealth of experience and knowledge in Powell. Vetere, Jiminez and others, I am willing to trust that they are well chosen.
There has been talk about an ex Premiership player arriving to Captain the team. If that turns out to be Bowyer, I will start to be very confident about the new season. I know that thought will not be popular with some, but if you imagine him in the middle driving the team on, you may be able to agree. In terms of what he would cost, I could imagine him putting enough extra bodies on the gate to cover a good wage particularly if paid when played.
Time now for the ' wait and see ' gang to buy their ticket to support the initiatives that we are seeing, after all how could they resist joining in the inspired ' he ain't Xabi, he's his brother '.
i hear ya EastTerrace, but know matter what level you are at or how much you pay for a player there is always gunna be an element of risk that it will pay off. from furgie to parky, good and bad signings will be made. but if we all (at the start of a season anyway) have the attitude of "well its all gunna be shit again..." then you might aswell pack up going and find something else to do on a saturday!
i have enjoyed the break this year and slowly but surely am getting the buzz back again and dare i say it looking forward to going to that first game and willing the boys on with all i got... and like you am hoping (id like to say praying but im not religious) that this is the year it all comes together. everyone in my book will start this season with a clean slate and get my full support, how long that will last i dont know... but for now its onwards and upwards it my eyes!
i really 'hope' i can look back at this little message later on in the year and feel fully justified for keeping the faith (and not made to feel like a gullible twat like the last few) UTA!!!
Indeed Blood, I'll still be looking forward to see what they are like but I guess most of us don't know how much better Hayes is than Abbott for instance.
Happy so far ... pity Chris Powell stated that we couldn't afford Lee Bowyer ... that would definitely shift a few more season tickets if it could be achieved ... and would be an exciting move.
I'm happy and cautiously optimistic. If (and its a big if) we could add Danny Green, Bowyer and a couple of CB's in the coming weeks (before pre-sason if poss) and Youga can come through and be offered a contract then we will have a team that could compete and be 'in the mix' next season. I personally would still like to see Semedo re-sign and maybe M Stewart as well. However with all the signings made so far this is a good start and something we have not done (been able to do) for the last few seasons, now the hard work begins for CP and his backroom staff to get them 'gelled' into a good football playing unit before the season starts, not halfway through it.
we are 10-1 for the title on most betting sites, 5th favourite behind Huddesfield, Preston, Two Sheffield's....although i cant see why Wednesday are above us so might be worth a punt before we buy any more players and the odd's start to tumble
This is not meant to be a negative comment but we still havn't paid a fee yet !
the irony is that at end of contract time, good players can be signed for no fee other than a big signing on fee ... if you sign a player for cash who is still in contract, either: a) his present club thinks that he is useless and cant wait to get rid of him, or: b) he will cost a lot of money

It would appear not. Which makes you wonder just what it would take for some people to actually be happy - a million pounds cash and a nosh from Rachel Riley?

Can still get 14's with Bet365 and Sporting Bet
nice little local (ish) treble .. West Sham, CAFC and Gillingham for promotion
Last season the two key weaknesses were our lightweight midfield getting bullied and our slow, geriatric defence getting skinned and leaking goals from corners and set pieces.
You don't recruit ugly midfield bruisers in Tenerife and we still have no-one good enough to play at centre back.
Early days I know but nothing much has changed (yet) to address our key problems.
However, I was happy about our signings last year and remember being really excited about Abbott, McCormack & Francis because I read people saying great things about them so we shall just have to wait and see I guess!
I must say those signings last season did nothing to get me even semi-aroused. I am more optimistic this season as it seems that every signing we've made so far is an improvement on last seasons squad. More to come......and definately a couple of centre backs required.

The problem with these bruisers you mention is they might win the ball for you but have no clue what to do with it once they have it. Powell is trying to build a team that are attack minded and will look to retain possesion (and hopefully put it to good use). I'm sure they'll be ball winners in the key area's, just don't need 11 of them.
Just reading Cedric on the OS.: "The aim is to get promotion this year," he said. "I spoke to the manager and other people and the aim is to take this club back to the Championship next season."
If that's the attitude at the club, then I'm at least happier now.

Why should this season be any different unless a) we are lucky or b) Jeff knows his stuff?
I am just hoping.

It must be our time to find a gem soon.

I'll be watching the Buzzcocks this weekend at a big indie festival here in Calgary!
Mark me down as very happy, looking forward to the season starting and supporting my team!
