What was wrong with The Man of Glass - sorry Rob Elliott - last week?

  • Elliot has made some mistakes this season, but he's also kept us in alot of games with some great saves. If he could be more commanding of his area it would help his defence out alot. He also probably needs a summers rest to get over any injuries (he's picked up a new on seemingly every other week since Christmas) which haven't helped him regain any form...
  • I've done some tidying up over the long weekend and found the Sheffield Wednesday programme.

Elliot chipped a bone in his elbow in training, leaving a piece of floating bone, and has played on as the pain was relatively low level with a view to having a minor operation at the end of the season to sort it out.

It could be, with the arrival of Sullivan, that it has been suggested that he brings the operation forward given that the season is effectively over.
  • Looks to me if an on loan Sullivan is keeping a fit Elliot out of the side at the moment, then Sullivan will be signing a contract in the summer.

Has certainly impressed in what i have seen so far.

I agree, but hopefully, he will sign for us and not Millwall, who will also have been watching him closely no doubt as his contract is up in the summer - he is probably better than Forde and their number 2. Sparrows Lane Lion may comment here.

He'd been there for two years, so their goalkeeper coach will have already made his mind up based on watching him in training/on loan over that time. Why would they let him out on loan as his contract runs out if they wanted to keep him? If we want him, he'll sign for next year.
  • Does he need a lift to the Toon?

He got injured. Sullivan replaced him. Sullivan has done well (apart from his kicking).
    Sullivan keeps his place.
    Thread closes .

No Elliot said he was fit...to me and a load others outside West Stand today after the match...i dunno if they still wanted to see what Sullivan was like though.

What are you going on about ?
It's quite plain, what I said. Sullivan replaced Elliot, because Elliot was injured.Sullivan has done well, so has has kept his place, even though Elliot is now fit.
(Quite right IMO as he looks the better keeper, although we won't know that unless we give him some games). Simples.

Fair enough, personally i agree, i too like Sullivan, dodgy kicking, but that can be improved on. I would also want Rob to stay, i'm sure he will.
  • Personally think that Sullivan is the first proper 'Keeper that we've had since Carson and he reminds me of him a bit. The way that he was throwing himself into bodies to claim the ball against Rochdale gives me the impression that Powell has said that theres a contract on the table for him. Shows a lot of commitment for a loanee from local rivals and looks a presence in the area. We could do a lot worse and I hope we keep him.

    I agree 100%

I've been mightily impressed. He's not the perfect keeper - his kicking technique seems awkward - but he is imposing, brave, very vocal, commands his area prettty well and his handling seems pretty steady.

I'm yet to see too many saves from him but think he is certainly a better bet than Elliot and Worner (who I do actually really rate)
  • I think Sullivan has done well but for me Robbie -without the weight is our number 1. I think it would be good if we had 2 keepers of this quality vying for a starting place for next season with Worner, a more than ample 3rd choice who can go out on loan. I think 2 good keepers will bring the best out of each other.

Does he look like a keeper though ?
  •

Sullivan has just been given a free by Millwall . A good bet as next years cover ?

  • Cover?
  • a good bet as next years first choice more like
  • I would prefer Sullivan more than Elliott. I know Robbie is a Charlton fan and all that i just dont have any real confidence in Robbie. I have more in Sullivan and he has only been here a short time
