What was wrong with The Man of Glass - sorry Rob Elliott - last week?

edited April 2011 in General Charlton
Seems he was injured. Again.

I have never known a keeper get injured as much (with the exception of Chris Kirkland) so what was it this time?

  • Sprained his wrist lifting a heavy pie at the training ground canteen?
  • Couldn't find a keepers shirt that would fit him?
  • Wasn't allowed to wear his Burkha?

Ate a Burkha instead of his burger?
  • Been thinking the same myself Swisdom. Don't want to do him an injustice, but he does seem a bit of a wimp. When he kicked a ball out at the other week at home, he slipped over and then spent the next few minutes hobbling around which was not the first time!
  • He was doing a photoshoot for next years kit I heard. The club are hoping it will stop him being injured so much.

  • As we have very little cover (no pun intended!) in the GK department most of the time he is playing patched up and with an injury so he never recovers properly. If we had a viable number two who could have come in for 5 or 6 games to let him recover I'm sure his injury record would be better!

The number 2 is called Worner and he's injured too!
  • I actually think Worner is more than a match for Elliot, certainly no worse in the games he has featured in
  • Maybe trying to be in 3 places at once due to the shortcomings of our laughable defence has put him at greater risk of injury than other goalies.

  • LOL'S
  • I reckon he tries to come back from injuries too fast and breaks down - i'd say it's the complete opposite of being a bit of a shirker - seems very enthusiastic and motivated to me and i think he's alright but i don't really know.

Sparrows Lane canteen has banned burgers and chips.
He's been trying to build himself up so he can make himself large ......and fill the goal completely.

But Chris Powell reckons he's not ready yet.

Spot on. Anyone remember Colchester away, Robbie was clearly injured in the first half but wouldn't go off (though quite why he was allowed to make that call is anyones guess).
  • Bit harsh on Elliot this thread. You may be better off looking in the direction of Anyinsah for "The Man of Glass" title.

There's nothing malicious on this thread though, Mr Robin. Only the sort of banter he probably gets from the other players at the training ground.

Classic case of a player who's missed most of pre-season training, never getting the chance to gain proper match fitness, and consequently vulnerable to all sorts of niggles and strains.

    All relatively minor injuries.

During the close season, Anyinsah will hopefully get the chance to let his body recover properly, get a good pre-season under his belt, proper match fitness by getting a decent run of games under his belt.

He injured his knee in training and the reason he didn't go off at Colchester was because Worner who was on the bench had stitches and was deemed to be less fit than Robbie
  • elliott would be a much better keeper if he lost weight! my cousin was a keeper and over weight(soz cous) and he was always get injured!!!!
  • Without getting into a debate about his goalkeeping abilities I think his basic problem is that he's not a natural athlete.

Maybe, but didn't Carlisle fans say he was injury prone? Looking at his career to be fair to him he's mainly been out on loan and perhaps never had many full pre-seasons of regular games.

Still not sure we should take the gamble that he'll get fit next season, there will be other options out there.

Yep basically agree with you, BFR....... his ability is there. I've just a feeling he doesn't have particularly quick feet, which possibly hinders his reactions when he has to move late when initially unsighted.

But generally speaking, he is a first class shot stopper.

this.......I always feel he never really looks fully fit
  • Elliott is great at reaction saves, but anything from outside the area has a decent chance of going in. I don't quite understand it.

He can't wear his glasses on the pitch.

Sullivan played well at Oldham and he's a free in the summer, i think he would bring the best out of Rob
  • was told today that Elliott has already signed for Newcastle

    lmfao

that will be a great gesture from pardew
  • I thought it strange but certainly have no reason not to believe my source !

Andy Woodman (ex goalkeeping coach) is now there with Pardew
