Just got home from the match.
For the first 30 minutes I thought we just shaded a poor game and we were starting to get our attack co-ordinated. Then Dailly got kicked in the head as tried to head a lowish ball, he immediately retaliated and kicked his opponent - red card no argument. After that Racon was replaced by Fortune and the rest of the 1st half was quiet even. After half time Oldham really went for it, WP retreated into the midfield leaving Benson up front. Both Mac & Fortune kept the attacks at bay, Solly was solid and Bessone was dodgey. The midfield became secondary defenders and Benson ran and ran but achieved little. It was a brave rearguard display with little skill as we kept giving the ball back to Oldham. Sullivan looked a better goalkeeper than either of ours except for his kicking which was poor. We didn't loose because Oldham were very poor in their shots and headers at goal.
A frustrating game but we didn't loose.

he kept giving the ball away.
I thought you were the younger element, Lancs?
Blimey there are a lot of us old gits mature gentlemen on here
Good thought!
Or precisely 6 more than Southend took to Accrington Stanley on Tuesday for a longer even more meaningless fixture.
Good result considering, all roads definitely lead to winning the league at a canter next season :)
Stig - from where I was (albeit the other end) he had so much time that he took too many touches and I do feel that had he had less time, he probably would have done better. Too much time is not always an asset in these circumstances as we frequently see at this and higher levels. As you rightly say 'composure' was also an issue here.
shameful times
1) When you go 1 on 1 with the keeper, if possible get as central as you can (which gives you 2 options: to go either side of the keeper - instead of at an angle, which gives you only one option).
2) You get the keeper to commit himself and invariably he will.
Quickly make your mind up what you are going to do, be decisive and stick with that decision ....... as the keeper rushes out at you, treat him like you would running at any defender - drop a shoulder to sell the dummy, then accelerate past him. Roll ball firmly into empty net.
Okay, once in a while a keeper will make a lucky guess, like they sometimes do facing a penalty kick. But 4 out of 5 times, it should always be your goal.
I always used to elect to take the keeper on, rather than try to lob or shoot on the run - as it's much more difficult to keep balance, composure and measure the target, when an onrushing keeper is charging towards you..
More posts no doubt on Monday morning ..... when people in the office try to escape their monotony
Seen it this morning. The challenge by the no 9 on CD was an ugly challenge but in football these days you cannot lash out, it's violent conduct and it's a red card all day long. According to BBC the number 9 got a yellow and that was fully deserved for that challenge.
I agree, which is why I said the ref "could have let him off" .
Dangerous play studs first, with the head high kick, is serious foul play.
In the Swindon playoff game at The Valley last season, the Swindon defender was rightly given a straight red for an offence that was not even as dangerous as that one committed by Rueben Reid.
I thought the 'clique' were old gits.
