Charlton Athletic midfielder Johnnie Jackson is determined to prove his fitness to the club this summer in a bid to earn a new contract.
The 28-year-old played a pivotal role in helping the Addicks push for the play-offs this season, with 15 goals in 36 starts, but an Achilles injury suffered in late February ended his season prematurely. The club's season declined once the ex-Colchester midfielder was ruled out, with the club falling into the bottom half of the table. Jackson has another year left on his current deal at The Valley, but he has revealed he is keen to extend his stay beyond next season. Confident "I've got another year on my contract, but ideally I'd love to sit down over the summer with the club and sort something out," Jackson told skysports.com. "I've had a decent season apart from the injury and no player wants to be going into their last year of a contract knowing that they are up at the end of the season, so hopefully we will sit down and talk about an extension this summer. "I'd love to stay and hopefully they will like to have me, but I totally understand that they want to make sure I'm over my injury before committing and I'm confident of proving my fitness to them. "The aim is to get back for pre-season training, but I was able to train normally with the boys for the last week of the season. "Obviously, I didn't feel 100% because of how long I've been out for, but the actual injury felt good, which was key. "I now know that I am able to get myself fit and ready over the summer to get back into the swing of things when pre-season begins."

The Board sold him from under Parkinson simply to raise desperately needed funds.
And we got Simon Francis in for a nominal fee.
Win win situation for us.
Shearer - Blackburn to Newcastle
Cole - Newcastle to Man Utd
Bent - Sunderland to Villa
Torres - Liverpool to Chelsea
etc etc
