[cite aria-level=0 aria-posinset=0 aria-setsize=0]Posted By: Fanny Fanackapan[/cite]Just got home after a good journey...pity the game didn't match it.
Didn't play too badly- as Saints fan said, we did pass it round well at times but no end result . Waggy moaning ? Surely not ! Again , doesn't do nearly enough for me. Thought he was bound to be subbed but SCP must have been watching another match...
Saints are a very strong, organised side with some really big guys so we were always going to be second best for 50/50 balls. We really could do with signing a few players who aren't so easily knocked off the ball.
Parrett was very decent again with others wearing red shirts not on his wavelength. Robbie made several great saves . And that was about it, folks.
Don & Ralph are taking a cardboard cut out of me to Oldham on Saturday as I shall be in sunny Tenareef . Hope to receive a text saying we've taken all 3 points.
Mrs Lout asked me "who have they got that is so good?" and the answer is "nobody really" - what we need is a TEAM suitable to get us out of League 1 and for that you don't need stars or great players.
Diasagree, they have some top players at this level... Lambert and Lallana (sp?) in particular backed up by a good all round team. They have spent quite a bit of money after all
According to BBC London Bessone and Llera went walkabout a couple of times in the first half.
Paul Merson on SSN said that Soton were the much better side but that Racon was our best player while our keeper played well and made some very good saves.
As one of the 392 I thought I'd better get my thoughts in.
A similar performance to that at Rochdale last week- nice moves at times but no cutting edge. Waggy did have a good chance but as usual Davis showed his usual form against us and kept it out. Other than that he was untroubled all night.
We need to work on our first touch and learn when to release the ball. Racon is very skilful but uses 20 touches when two will be enough. Again a lack of willingness to shoot let us down.
What struck me was the way Southampton broke and built so quickly with their players finding all the space and time they needed. Especially exposed was Bessone with Saints playing the ball in behind him at will which bore fruit with the first goal.
We on the other hand built slowly with short negative passes that got us nowhere. Pass and move is the answer with each player using only one or two touches.
I left after 85 mins in order to get the 10pm train and in the time I saw them @NE39 and Nouble did absolutely nothing whatsoever.
Ross Worner was in the crowd and he told me that he played the entire Dagenham game in agony due to strained ligaments in his right hand- considering the amount of saves he made in that game makes his performance all the more admirable.
I was pretty sure Bessone isn't the left back we are looking for after the Orient match. I notice the Luton lad we have been linked with scored again last night. Is Racon trying to impress other clubs or has Chrissy found a way to get the best from him? Not a great suprise really - defence seems to be the priority and we can't have players missing open goals!!! Hopefully we can get a win on Saturday against not such a good side.
I was one of the 392 - actually make that 393 as I have to confess to having a "Saints Supporter" ticket as I went with a mate who is a Southampton fan.
The comments I've read seem to have summed the game up quite while - we did actually play some good football at times, but without ever looking like we would actually score. After 15 minutes, and being already one down, I thought we were going to be in for a right thrashing. But, fair play to the lads, they started to play a bit and certainly held their own for the remainder of that half. The goal in the second half certainly killed the game as a contest and despite some neat passing on our part, their keeper didn't need to make a single save in the second period.
Racon, Semedo, Elliott and Llera all impressed. I was a bit disappointed with Dailly, Waggy and Solly, but nobody had a really "bad" game. As everyone else has pointed out - they are just a better team than us!
Can only echo a lot of the comments from the other loony's that made the trip. Whilst we did play okay and knocked it about quite well in spells we had zero product to show for our possession and hardly worked the keeper all night. Anyone not knowing the relative league positions of the clubs would clearly have been able to pick out the club with something to play for and the club for who the season cannot end soon enough.
They looked sharper, more powerful, much quicker on the counter attack, with better movement and closed us down well when we had the ball. We sort of huffed and puffed really and althohgh we kept going I think we coudl still be playing now and still not look like scoring.
Thought Waggy could have done better with his chance in the first half but it was at the far end so maybe being unfair. Also thought Llera and/or Bessone should've cleaned their guy out well before they got anywhere near our goal for their first but again haven't seen it on the tele. On the positive side, and I've been critical of him recently, but thought Jose had a good game last night.
One thing that that we desperatly need to work on is not giving away so much cheap possession. Twice last night we kicked the ball straight off for a throw when in decent positions and too many of our hopeful punts upfield were nowhere near our front two or overhit.
Bizarre decision of the night goes to whoever thought it would be a good idea to take a quick free kick when we had a man down injured on the edge of our box. Fortunately we managed to get the ball as far as their final third before losing possession as he was playing everybody on.
Rumours are only rumours unless there is some evidence - If we lose Racon and Semedo for next season, I think we would have much less cause for optimism for the next campaign and Chrissy's Summer rebuilding is going to be much harder - rememeber when we were on a roll, Powell said we were going to get a couple of new faces in imminenetly and we didn't when they were needed. It's one thing targeting players, but another getting them to want to come to you.

If we are rebuilding then I think all positions are available to be filled, i don't believe that R&S are the best players in their position so if we can get better then I have no allegiance to any of our players. In the case of R&S if we can get the same for lower cost then bye bye R&S.
Starting to worry about next season. Can CP do it, has he got what it takes? If it was my money, would get rid and get a new experienced manager in. WE CANNOT TAKE THE RISK. I LOVE THE BLOKE, BUT WE CANNOT TAKE THE RISK. NO PARKY COMMENTS, WE HAVE TO MOVE ON........PAY NEIL WARNOCK WHATEVER HE WANTS AND LET'S GET THIS SORTED................AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many Charlton fans do you think would have gone last night if we were chasing a playoff place? bearing in mind we played the Saints last week at home and they brought 3000 fans.

1000 tops ... our numbers away support wise is abysmal
we brought 1,457 to them on saturday april 10th last season as we were chasing the autos/play off spots
To respond to the response to my post on P1, I don't regard those guys as "stars" - maybe they are? I just don't think you need a team of stars, you just need a team.
It will not be easy to attract better players to the Valley next season. It seems that a lot of posters on here think that Powell is going to wave a magic wand and we will buy top Championship/Div1 players, we will shoot up to the top of the table, stay there all season and win the league by 15 points.I wish it was that easy. Nobody on here knows how much Slater's significant investment amounts to.Is it a significant amount for an Exeter or for a Southampton, or for recent years Charlton?
Powell and his coaching staff will have to mould all the new players into a team, not an easy job.

i doubt there are any who think that , everyone will hope that happens but i doubt anyone thinks it will

Next season we need to have a squad as good(or better).
Paul Merson on SSN said that Soton were the much better side but that Racon was our best player while our keeper played well and made some very good saves.

Tranmere - 304
Carlisle - 367
I'm sure Colchester took less too but there isn't an official number on them.

Its now 18 points froom 17 games under Powell.........relegation form. Also no clean sheets in 14 and failed to score in 4 of the last 6 away games.
SHOCKING.
(nothings working - just copy and paste lol)
bearing in mind we played the Saints last week at home and they brought 3000 fans.
But what about our Belgian & Morrocan?
If Powell isn't here, who is gonna sign them?
;-)

TOOK !
And 2 goals scored in the 1st half of the last 15 games. Why?
Can't see it happening.
(and what has gone wrong with the quoting thing on here)
Powell and his coaching staff will have to mould all the new players into a team, not an easy job.
I will await next Season with interest.
